For a two-bike setup, the Saris Cycle-On is a strong conditional pick for a 1.25-inch hitch if you want a wheel-mounted tray, an included loading ramp and capacity for heavier bikes. Saris lists 70 lb per bike, but the right rack still depends on your hitch class, vehicle limits and the precise fit of your bikes. A 1.25-inch receiver alone does not establish that a rack is safe or compatible.

How to choose a rack that actually fits
Check receiver size, hitch class and vehicle limits
Verify that your vehicle has a 1.25-inch receiver, then check the hitch class and the vehicle and hitch manufacturers’ load limits. Receiver diameter by itself does not tell you how much weight the complete setup can carry. Account for the rack’s weight as well as the bikes wherever the applicable tongue-weight limit covers the combined load. Also check the rack’s pin-hole position, bumper clearance, projection and any vehicle-specific exclusions.
Thule’s general fit guidance calls for at least 1.5 inches between the hitch pin-hole center and the end of the receiver. Treat that as a fit check, not a universal guarantee: consult the exact rack’s instructions and vehicle fit information. Thule’s vehicle-fit guidance also recommends checking model details and consulting a local dealer when needed.

- CARRY UP TO 2 BIKES: Trail Rider securely transports up to 2 bicycles with a maximum capacity of 45 lbs per bike. Adjustable wheel holders accommodate a variety of bike styles and provide a stable platform during transport. Not designed for e-bikes.
- LOCKING FRAME HOOKS: Padded locking ratchet frame hooks slide down over the bike frame to hold each bicycle securely in place while helping protect the finish. Includes a locking threaded hitch pin for added security.
- FITS 1-1/4" & 2" HITCHES: Versatile hitch-mounted design works with both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitch receivers, making the rack suitable for a variety of compatible cars, SUVs and crossovers.
- EASY ACCESS & LOADING: Simply place each bike into the adjustable wheel holders, secure the frame with the ratcheting hooks and fasten the included wheel straps. The rack folds down when needed to provide easier access to the rear of the vehicle.
- COMPACT FOLD-FLAT STORAGE: Bike support arms and wheel support tubes fold into a thin profile for convenient garage storage when the rack is not in use. Kids', women's and some mountain bike frames may require a top tube adapter.
Match capacity to your bikes
Compare each bike’s actual weight with the rack’s per-bike limit, and make sure the total load stays within the rack and vehicle constraints. E-bikes commonly call for a higher-rated rack; do not assume that a rack that fits the receiver can carry them. A loading ramp can make lifting a heavy bike easier, but it does not raise the rack’s weight rating.
Choose tray or hanging based on frame and wheel fit
Tray racks support bikes by the wheels and avoid frame contact, which can suit carbon frames, fat tires, nontraditional frames and heavier e-bikes when the rack’s limits allow. Hanging racks support bikes by the frame and are often lighter and more compact, but frame shape matters. A step-through or small-frame bike may need a frame adapter on a hanging rack. Check the exact combination of bike, adapter and rack before purchase. Yakima explains these style trade-offs in its bike rack buying guide.
Check access, security and storage details
Decide whether you need tilt access to the rear of the vehicle, and verify whether access works with bikes loaded. Compare included locks, rack weight, folding or removal, storage footprint and support for replacement parts. Those details can matter as much as the headline capacity if you remove the rack often or need trunk access.

Rack-by-rack picks
Saris Cycle-On: the conditional two-bike pick
Saris lists the Cycle-On for two bikes, with a maximum of 70 lb per bike, compatibility with e-bikes, 20–32-inch wheels and tires up to 4 inches. It fits 1.25- and 2-inch receivers, weighs 53 lb and includes a telescoping ramp and integrated lock system; Saris also describes tilt access and storage wheels. The ramp and higher published per-bike limit make it worth considering for heavier bikes, provided the vehicle and hitch ratings allow the complete load. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Verify your specific vehicle, hitch and bike fit in Saris’s Cycle-On specifications.

It is a possible fit for bikes within those specifications, but its lower weight rating rules it out for any bike that exceeds the published limit. Yakima RidgeBack: more bikes, with frame-fit trade-offs
Yakima lists the RidgeBack as a hanging rack for up to five bikes, rated up to 40 lb per bike, with 1.25- and 2-inch receiver fit. The higher bike count may appeal to a group, but it does not remove the need to check hitch-class and vehicle limits. Its frame-hanging design can also require an adapter for a step-through or small-frame bicycle. Confirm the exact bike and rack fit in Yakima’s product information and its rack guide.

Thule
Thule says T2-series racks are designed for either 1.25-inch or 2-inch receivers where the model name or description indicates it. The Thule Range is 2-inch only, and some other models may be convertible. Do not infer compatibility across a product family; check the exact model and vehicle. The 1.5-inch pin-hole-center clearance guidance is a general check, not a substitute for the model’s fit information. Thule’s fit guidance has the details.

Kuat
Kuat says its two-bike hitch racks are approved for Class I receivers, while its three-bike Transfer and NV with Add-On configurations do not work on Class I hitches. Kuat says its hitch products fit 1.25- and 2-inch receivers, but a 1.25-inch rack cannot take Kuat add-on racks. It also notes that hitch pins provide security, not towing capability. If towing is involved, use the towing hitch and pin rated for that purpose. See Kuat’s FAQ.
Quick Recap
Pre-purchase fit checklist
- Confirm receiver size and hitch class from the vehicle and hitch documentation.
- Check vehicle and hitch tongue-weight limits, including how rack weight affects the permitted load.
- Verify the exact rack’s pin-hole clearance, bumper clearance, projection and vehicle exclusions.
- Compare each bike’s weight and the combined load with the rack, hitch and vehicle limits.
- Check wheel diameter, tire width, wheelbase, fenders and frame geometry against the rack specifications.
- For a hanging rack, confirm whether a step-through or small-frame bike needs an adapter.
- Decide whether you need a ramp, loaded tilt access, integrated locks or a rack that stores compactly.
