Is the 2025 Audi Q5 the sensible all-rounder?
For shoppers who need one vehicle to cover commuting, errands and family use, the Q5 is the most straightforward starting point in this shortlist. Audi of America announced its all-new 2025 Q5 lineup on April 24, 2025, with deliveries beginning in May. That makes it a candidate for buyers who want an SUV and are not ready to switch to an all-electric vehicle. The release does not by itself establish which trim, price or equipment package is best for a particular buyer; compare the actual local inventory and specifications before deciding.

When does an A6 plug-in hybrid make more sense?
An A6 plug-in hybrid is worth considering if your regular trips can often be handled using electric power and you can charge at home or work, while still valuing a combustion engine for longer journeys. Audi’s 2025 corporate report states that new A6 plug-in-hybrid models have more than 100 kilometers of electric range on the WLTP test cycle and a two-and-a-half-hour 0-to-100-percent charging time. Those are Audi-published figures, not a guarantee of real-world range or charging time. WLTP is a test-cycle measure, and the report’s figures should not be assumed to apply to every A6 plug-in hybrid or every market. Confirm the exact model, charging setup and local specification before comparing it with an EV.

What does the A6 Sportback e-tron offer as an EV?
The A6 Sportback e-tron is a battery-electric option for drivers who prefer a sedan-like profile to an SUV. In a week-long test of the Prestige trim, a Tom’s Guide reviewer covered 218.1 miles and reported an average of 3.7 mi/kWh. Tom’s Guide’s review That result describes one reviewer’s test conditions; it is not an EPA rating, an Audi claim, or a promise of what another driver will achieve.
Use the review as one point of context, then assess the car against your own charging access, typical mileage and local trim availability. The evidence here does not support a direct efficiency comparison with the Q6 e-tron.

Should you consider the Q6 e-tron instead?
If you want an electric Audi in an SUV body style, the 2025 Q6 e-tron is the natural counterpart to the A6 Sportback e-tron. What changed in Audi’s range after the 2025 launches?
Model names and specifications can shift by region and model year. Audi’s current official model page lists electric models including the A2 e-tron, A6 e-tron, Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron and e-tron GT, alongside combustion and plug-in-hybrid series such as the A3, A5, A6, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8. In a November 26, 2025 update, Audi said the A5, A6, Q5, A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron series would receive hardware and software changes. It also announced a 3.0-liter V6 diesel option for the Q5 and A6 in the markets covered by that release, rated at 220 kW (299 PS) and 580 Nm.
