The Jaguar Type 00 is a non-production concept, not an electric car shoppers can order. If you like its design direction, the practical next step is to compare available luxury EVs such as the Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan—and keep an eye on Jaguar’s forthcoming Type 01, the production four-door electric GT announced as its successor in this design era.
There is no verified, like-for-like data here to rank those rivals by price, range, or performance. Your best choice depends on your market, model year, configuration, and priorities; compare official local specifications before deciding.

First, know what you can—and cannot—buy
Type 00 is a design reference
Jaguar labels Type 00 a non-production vehicle. Its reveal presented the concept as a preview of the brand’s design philosophy and intent, not as a production specification sheet or availability announcement. It can help you decide whether you are drawn to Jaguar’s new design direction, but it cannot be treated as an orderable vehicle or a fair benchmark for production-car equipment and performance.
That distinction matters when looking at alternatives: a concept may express a shape or mood without committing to the dimensions, cabin details, range, or equipment of a customer car. In other words, a shopper can respond to the concept’s visual language, but cannot yet use Type 00 to answer practical questions such as what a production cabin will feel like, what a particular trim will cost, or how it will perform in independent testing.

So the useful question is not “Which current car is better than Type 00?” There is no production Type 00 to compare with. A more practical question is: “Which luxury EV should I research if I like the direction Jaguar is signaling, and should I wait for Jaguar’s announced production model?” That reframing avoids treating a design study as if it were a finished vehicle.
Type 01 is Jaguar’s announced production reference
On 6 October 2026, Jaguar unveiled Type 01 as a luxury four-door electric GT. Jaguar says orders are expected to open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027. Those are announced plans, not a guarantee that timing will remain unchanged.
Jaguar’s newsroom lists a US starting MSRP of $130,500. It is a manufacturer-announced US starting price, not an international price or a prediction of a buyer’s final transaction cost. Type 01 is forthcoming, so shoppers seeking a car now should separate it from vehicles currently offered in their market.

The timing creates two different shopping paths. If you need a vehicle before Jaguar’s expected delivery window, investigate currently offered models and confirm their local availability directly. If you can wait, Type 01 becomes a car to evaluate when Jaguar publishes market-specific ordering information and production specifications. A wait-and-see plan should still be treated as a choice with uncertainty: Jaguar has announced expected dates, not a delivery guarantee for an individual buyer.
The $130,500 figure can serve as a starting point for a US-market budget conversation, but it is not enough to calculate a fair comparison by itself. It does not establish the final cost of a configured car, and it should not be compared with a rival’s price from a different country, model year, or trim. A configured-price and availability check will matter once the relevant official details are available.
Which luxury EVs belong on your shortlist?
Lucid Air
The Lucid Air is a reasonable luxury-EV family to investigate if you want to consider an alternative to Jaguar’s four-door GT direction. The available evidence establishes it as a candidate, but does not support a current, trim-specific comparison of its price, range, charging, or equipment against Type 01. Check the official local configurator for the model year and configuration you would actually buy.
When you investigate it, start with your own requirements rather than assuming that the word “luxury” means the same equipment or experience across brands. Identify the version you would genuinely consider, then record its local price and the specifications listed for that exact version. If those details do not match the Jaguar information you have, mark the difference rather than presenting the two as a direct comparison.

The Air belongs on the list of models to investigate, not at the top of a ranking based on the evidence here. No sourced figures establish a winning trim, lower price, longer range, quicker charging, or closer match to Type 01.
Porsche Taycan
The Porsche Taycan is another plausible family to include. Treat it as a car to investigate on its own terms rather than assuming its body style, driving character, or specification is directly equivalent to Type 01. Verify current local trims and figures before comparing it with a Jaguar that is not yet scheduled for customer deliveries.
A useful Taycan comparison begins by asking what you mean by “alternative.” Do you want a luxury electric vehicle in the broad sense, a four-door car, a grand-touring proposition, a particular kind of cabin comfort, or a similar price point? The available information identifies the Taycan as a plausible shortlist candidate, but does not establish that every version meets any one of those needs or directly matches Jaguar’s announced GT positioning.
Use the exact local trim you would buy, and compare it with the Jaguar only when the relevant Type 01 details are available on comparable terms. Until then, it is reasonable to research the Taycan and narrow your own priorities, but not to claim a confirmed head-to-head winner.

Mercedes-Benz EQS, BMW i7, and Audi e-tron GT are additional adjacent vehicles a luxury-EV shopper may want to research. Current local trim details for these cars are not established here, so no specific model, price, or specification should be inferred from their inclusion. Confirm each vehicle’s current official specifications in your market.
Think of these names as prompts for a broader search, not as a vetted ranking. They are possible adjacent vehicles, but current local equipment, pricing, range, charging, or trim data is not provided to say which is the closest match. If one is available where you live, verify its current official product information before adding figures to a comparison sheet.
Do not assume that all five families are interchangeable just because they sit in the luxury-EV conversation. This shortlist is useful for deciding what to investigate; it is not a claim that each car has the same body style, intended character, availability, or customer use case as Type 01.

How to compare alternatives without misleading yourself
Compare the same market and model year, and select actual trims rather than comparing a base price for one car with a highly equipped version of another. Because Type 01 is a forthcoming luxury four-door GT, label it as announced and not yet available for customer delivery on Jaguar’s stated schedule.
- Choose your market and timing. Decide whether you need a car now or can wait for Type 01’s expected delivery window in the second half of 2027. Availability and specifications can vary by country. If timing is decisive, confirm the current order and delivery situation with the relevant manufacturer or retailer instead of treating an announced schedule as a personal delivery date.
- Match model year and configuration. Use each maker’s current official configurator or local product page to check the same model year and the trims you would genuinely consider. Record what is standard and what is optional. If one vehicle’s published information is for a different year or market, do not quietly combine those numbers; flag the mismatch and seek a comparable source.
- Compare body style and comfort. Check seating, cabin layout, luggage needs, and comfort features against your use. Do not assume that a shared luxury label means the cars offer the same kind of grand-touring experience. Type 01 is announced as a four-door electric GT, but its full production equipment list and detailed cabin specifications have not been provided. Wait for those details rather than filling the gaps from the concept.
- Assess performance and driving character. Look at the specifications for your selected trims, then consider whether the car’s intended character suits your priorities. Manufacturer figures are not the same thing as independent road-test results. Jaguar’s more-than-1,000-PS claim is a manufacturer announcement for Type 01, not a verified result in a comparative test against rivals.
- Check range and charging on comparable terms. Confirm the stated range standard for your market and the charging conditions behind any advertised time or distance added. A figure tied to a particular charger or test method should not be treated as a universal real-world result. The Type 01 announcement names EPA range and a 350 kW charger for its charging claim; do not mix those details with a different range standard or charging scenario from another car and call the result like-for-like.
- Compare local price and availability. Use current local pricing for the selected trim, and distinguish a manufacturer’s starting MSRP from a configured price or final transaction cost. Confirm ordering and delivery information directly with the manufacturer or retailer. Jaguar’s $130,500 starting MSRP is specifically a US figure; it does not supply pricing for other markets or the final price of a chosen configuration.
- Make design a deliberate criterion. If Type 00’s styling is what brought you here, decide how much weight the design direction carries relative to comfort, performance, charging, and availability. The concept itself does not establish the production Type 01’s final details. You can use the concept to describe what attracts you, but assess the production car from its own specifications and, when possible, a vehicle you can inspect.
- Keep a source and date beside every number. Record where a price or specification came from and when you checked it. This is especially useful when a model year, market, or configuration differs across product pages. It also makes it easier to spot when an announced figure has been superseded or when a claim applies only to one version.
- Separate “announced” from “verified.” Mark whether a figure is a manufacturer claim, a current published configuration detail, or an independent test result. Jaguar’s announced Type 01 figures are available here, but there are no independent cross-vehicle test statistics. A comparison should preserve that distinction instead of presenting all figures with equal evidential weight.
What Jaguar has announced for Type 01
Jaguar describes Type 01 as having more than 1,000 PS, a 400-mile EPA range, and the ability to add 200 miles in 13 minutes using a 350 kW charger. These are Jaguar’s manufacturer claims announced in 2026, not independent comparative test results. The charging claim is tied to the stated 350 kW charger; it should not be read as a promise that every charging session or station will deliver the same result.
For a shopper, the figures are useful as a first outline of Jaguar’s intended positioning, not as proof of what the car will deliver in every circumstance. “400 miles EPA” is a specific announced range figure and standard; it is not a number that can be fairly compared with a rival figure using a different standard without explanation. Likewise, “200 miles in 13 minutes” is tied to the stated 350 kW charger. The announced figures do not establish that every charger, vehicle condition, or charging session will reproduce that result.
The more-than-1,000-PS claim is also a manufacturer statement, not an independent performance test or a comparison with another model’s measured output. It may be relevant to a shopper interested in Jaguar’s stated performance ambition, but it does not answer questions about real-world driving character, comfort, or how the production car will feel. Those judgments require the production vehicle and evidence beyond the announcement.
Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover described Type 01 as a “luxury grand tourer for a new era,” saying it would distill the essence of Jaguar into a luxury GT. This is Jaguar’s own positioning. It helps explain the company’s intended product story, but it is not an independent assessment of whether Type 01 will outperform or better suit a particular shopper than the Lucid Air, Taycan, EQS, i7, or e-tron GT.

The 2024 concept announcement referred to a 478-mile WLTP / 430-mile EPA range and a 200-miles-in-15-minutes target. Those earlier figures are not the final Type 01 specifications presented at its 2026 reveal.
This is an important source-checking step rather than a minor technicality. The earlier figures were attached to an earlier concept announcement, and Jaguar’s later Type 01 reveal provides a different set of manufacturer claims. A shopper or writer should identify which vehicle and announcement a number belongs to, and should not combine the concept’s earlier targets with the production model’s later description.

What can be ranked today?
A numerical winner cannot be responsibly named from the available comparable information. There is no established, trim-by-trim table of current prices, ranges, charging rates, or equipment for the Lucid Air, Taycan, EQS, i7, and e-tron GT alongside Type 01. The latter is not yet scheduled for customer deliveries, and its announced figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent tests.
That limitation does not make a shortlist useless. It tells you what kind of next research to do. Decide whether you need a vehicle now, identify two or three candidates available in your market, and gather current official details for the model years and trims you would actually consider. Then keep Type 01 on a separate “forthcoming” line until Jaguar provides enough production and local-market information for a fair comparison.
For a numerical comparison to become meaningful, you would need the same kinds of information for each car: a matching market and model year, a selected trim, comparable price basis, the range standard used, and a clearly described charging claim. For Type 01, you would also need final production details and current availability information when orders open. The available information does not supply all of that for the alternatives, so filling the gaps with assumed specifications would produce false precision.
Instead, use the shortlist to identify cars worth checking in your market, then compare matched trims against the way you drive and the time you plan to buy. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover described Type 01 as a “luxury grand tourer for a new era”; that is Jaguar’s own positioning, not an independent assessment of how it will compare on the road.
A practical decision path
If you need a luxury EV before the second half of 2027, begin with cars currently offered in your market. The Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan are reasonable families to investigate, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS, BMW i7, and Audi e-tron GT may also merit investigation. Check official local information for each one, since the available evidence here does not verify current trim details or support a numerical winner.
If Jaguar’s design direction is the main attraction and your purchase is flexible, follow Type 01’s progress. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, and first customer deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027, according to Jaguar’s announcement. Revisit the decision when Jaguar publishes the production information and local ordering details needed to evaluate the actual vehicle.

If you are undecided, write down the criteria that matter most before comparing cars: timing, body style and comfort, performance, range and charging, local price, availability, and design. Then use the same market, model year, and trim basis for each candidate. This keeps the concept in its proper role—as a design reference—and makes the eventual Type 01 comparison more useful when evidence is available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy the Jaguar Type 00?
No. Jaguar explicitly labels Type 00 a non-production vehicle. It is a design concept, not an orderable production car.
What is the Jaguar Type 01, and when is it expected?
Jaguar unveiled Type 01 on 6 October 2026 as a luxury four-door electric GT. Jaguar says orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. These are announced plans, not guaranteed dates.
How much will the Jaguar Type 01 cost?
Jaguar’s newsroom lists a US starting MSRP of $130,500. That is a manufacturer-announced US starting price, not an international price or a guarantee of a buyer’s configured or final transaction cost.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat range and charging figures has Jaguar announced for Type 01?
Jaguar claims a 400-mile EPA range and says the car can add 200 miles in 13 minutes using a 350 kW charger. These are manufacturer claims, not independently verified comparative test results, and the charging claim is tied to the stated charger.
Which luxury EV is the best Type 00 alternative?
The available information does not establish a numerical winner. Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan are reasonable candidates to investigate; Mercedes-Benz EQS, BMW i7, and Audi e-tron GT are additional adjacent names. Compare current local model years and trims against your needs rather than assuming they are direct equivalents.
Are the Type 00 range figures the same as Type 01’s?
No. Jaguar’s 2024 Type 00 announcement referred to a 478-mile WLTP / 430-mile EPA range and a 200-miles-in-15-minutes target. Those earlier concept figures should not be carried forward as final Type 01 specifications; Jaguar’s later Type 01 announcement gives different claims.
The Bottom Line
Type 00 is a non-production concept, so the most useful alternatives are cars to research—not vehicles ranked against it. Investigate the Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan, and consider the EQS, i7, and e-tron GT as additional candidates. Match the market, model year, and trim, and verify current official details. If you can wait, Jaguar says Type 01 orders are expected in early 2027 and first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027; its announced US starting MSRP is $130,500, and its performance, range, and charging figures remain manufacturer claims rather than independent comparisons.
