The Bertone Runabout is a pre-production, limited-run sports car that reinterprets the studio’s 1969 concept, drawing on the pointed profiles and clean geometry of late-1960s racing speedboats. Bertone has announced Barchetta and Targa versions and a 25-car production limit. Its published performance and dimensional figures are preliminary, not final or independently tested.
What is the Bertone Runabout?
The new Runabout revives a Bertone design study first shown at the Turin International Motor Show in 1969. The original concept drew on racing speedboats; the modern car carries that nautical influence into a contemporary two-seat sports car. Bertone describes its design around a pointed nose, wedge-like forms, a continuous horizontal beltline and a rollbar-inspired shape. The cabin continues the theme with a horizontally arranged, deck-inspired dashboard and exposed mechanical elements.

Design Lead Andrea Mocellin summed up the approach: “The new Bertone RUNABOUT captures the essence of pure design with only two defining lines.” Bertone’s Runabout model page presents it as a contemporary interpretation of the 1969 study.
Barchetta or Targa: what is the difference?
Bertone has announced two body configurations. Their main distinction is how open they are, rather than any published difference in performance.

- Brand new box. Real rubber tires. Has opening doors. Has steerable wheels. Detailed interior, exterior. Officially licensed product. Made of diecast with some plastic parts. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Dimensions approximately L-7.25, W-3.5, H-1.75 inches.
- Material: Metal
| Version | Roof | Windscreen | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barchetta | Open, with no roof | Windshield-free on Bertone’s current model page; its March 2025 release described a minimal windshield | The most exposed configuration |
| Targa | Removable roof | Full windshield, according to Bertone’s March 2025 release | More enclosed when the roof is fitted |
The differing Barchetta windshield descriptions are worth noting: Bertone’s current model page calls it windshield-free, while the March 2025 release refers to a minimal windshield. The sources do not establish whether that reflects a design change or different terminology. Neither source gives a performance comparison between the versions.
Bertone Runabout specifications

Why published power and acceleration figures differ
The figures have changed or differed across announcements. Bertone’s March 2025 release reported 460 hp; ANSA also reported 460 CV that month. The current Bertone specifications page lists 475 HP and a 3.1-second 0–100 km/h time. In an article published 26 January 2026, L’Automobile / ACI Editore gave 475 CV and 4.1 seconds for the same acceleration measure. The available sources do not explain the difference between 3.1 and 4.1 seconds or reconcile the changing output figures. Treat the current manufacturer data as preliminary and attribute the other numbers to their publication dates.
Production status, price and availability
Bertone has announced a production limit of 25 cars. Its current model and specifications pages describe the Runabout as pre-production, with allocations open for inquiry; those statements do not establish that customer cars have been built or delivered. Bertone’s March 2025 release scheduled production to begin in mid-2026, but that earlier schedule alone does not confirm production has started.

L’Automobile / ACI Editore reported a starting price of €390,000 before taxes in its 26 January 2026 article. Bertone’s current model and specifications pages do not state a price, so the figure should be treated as a dated media report rather than a current manufacturer-confirmed price.

The nautical reference is expressed chiefly through shape and cockpit design: a low, forward-leaning wedge, a pointed front, a strong horizontal line and an interior dashboard inspired by a boat deck. It is a design influence, not a claim that the car uses marine engineering. Bertone’s published specification instead identifies a supercharged V6, manual transmission and bonded-aluminum chassis.
For a future comparison with other limited-run sports cars, useful evidence-based points are the announced 25-car limit, the two body configurations, the engine and manual gearbox, and the preliminary weight and performance figures. Price comparisons should also distinguish a manufacturer-confirmed current price from a dated media report, while performance comparisons should separate preliminary claims from independently tested results.
Are the listed tires confirmed Runabout fitment?
Bertone lists 225/35 ZR18 tires at the front and 315/25 ZR19 at the rear. These are manufacturer-listed dimensions for a pre-production car; the source does not name tire brands or models. A listing for a tire in one of those sizes is not, by itself, confirmation of fitment for a customer Runabout. Confirm the final specification and availability before purchasing.
