The Beauer X-Van is a removable, rail-mounted module designed to turn the rear cargo area of a van into a dedicated sleeping space. At camp, the module slides rearward to make room for a bed; when retracted or removed, the van can return to everyday use. Published dimensions, vehicle examples and prices are historical reports, not confirmed current specifications or offers.
How the X-Van slide-out works
New Atlas described the X-Van in January 2020 as an electrically actuated module fitted in a van’s rear cargo area and secured to floor rails. At camp, it extends rearward by about 1 metre. Side panels are opened manually to widen the sleeping area, while the mattress folds as the module retracts. The module can also be removed, according to launch-era coverage. New Atlas’s 2020 report described the Peugeot Traveller as the first official conversion.
Promobil’s May 2022 account said the bed could be set up without folding or removing the second seating row. That makes the layout different from a simple bed platform that occupies the passenger area: the X-Van’s purpose is to create a separate sleeping zone behind the seats. Promobil’s 2022 report also described mattress sections folding upright when the module is retracted.
Reported dimensions and bed size
Promobil reported these measurements for an X-Van in 2022. They are useful for understanding the concept, but should not be treated as current specifications for every version.

The module’s reported 130 kg mass matters when calculating remaining payload. Confirm the weight of the exact configuration, then account for passengers, luggage, water and any fitted equipment against the vehicle’s permitted payload.
Vehicle fitment: examples are not an approval list
Launch coverage showed the module in a Peugeot Traveller. A French specialist report later described adaptations for Mercedes Vito, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter and Fiat Doblo variants. A specialist conversion page also presents a Renault Trafic 3 in L1 or L2 form. Before committing, ask Beauer or a current installer to confirm fitment for the exact vehicle. Check:
- Internal cargo dimensions and the width and height of the opening the module must pass through.
- Floor anchor points or rail arrangement, and whether the required rails are included or need installation.
- Tailgate or rear-door geometry and clearance for extending the module.
- The finished module’s mass and the vehicle’s remaining payload.
- Whether the second seating row remains usable in the proposed layout.

New Atlas reported that fitting the unit to floor rails took about 10 minutes and that extending it took about a minute. Those are outlet-reported timings, not independently tested results or a guarantee for a particular vehicle. Promobil also reported that the module could be removed after use; confirm the removal process and any tools or assistance required for the version being offered.
Kitchen, roof and other equipment
Equipment varied across published configurations, so the reports do not establish a standard package list. New Atlas described an optional kitchen module fitted between the seats and bed. Promobil reported a sink, 10-litre fresh- and waste-water tanks, a gas stove and a 40-litre refrigerator. A Renault Trafic conversion page describes cabinetry and a 51-litre refrigerator.

Promobil also reported optional camping-toilet and hand-shower equipment, with the shower requiring a sliding roof in that configuration. New Atlas mentioned a pop-up roof option that could add two berths. Treat these as dated configuration examples: confirm what is included, what is optional and what is compatible with the specific vehicle before comparing quotes.

Current X-Van orderability, geographic sales coverage, supported vehicles, pricing, warranty and local installer support have not been confirmed by the cited material. Beauer’s official English homepage, accessed October 8, 2026, presents its X4, X6 and X8 caravan models but does not provide retrieved X-Van availability details; that omission alone does not establish that the X-Van has been discontinued. Check directly with Beauer or a current authorized installer before planning a purchase.

For a useful quote, ask the seller to document the vehicle-specific fitment, the module and rail configuration, installed weight, bed dimensions, included equipment, removal requirements, warranty and delivery or installation location. The deciding question is not just whether the module fits inside the van: it is whether the fitted system leaves enough payload and delivers the bed size and seating arrangement you need.
