The ASICS GEL-Transcend FJ is a new hiking-inspired lifestyle sneaker, not a reissue of a vintage model. Gear Patrol’s October 2, 2026 account describes it as a blend of archive references and newer trail-shoe details, including a jagged midsole design, Flyfoam cushioning and an ASICSGrip outsole.
What is the ASICS GEL-Transcend FJ?
It is a new ASICS silhouette that borrows design cues from the brand’s older footwear. Gear Patrol identifies three references: the 1990s-era Transcend series, the GEL-Odyssey and the GEL-Radius. The result is framed as a hiking-inspired lifestyle shoe rather than a reissue of any one archival model.
How does it combine archive design and newer details?
Upper
Gear Patrol describes a perforated leather-and-synthetic upper with stitched-in Tiger Stripes branding. The mix of materials and visible stitching gives the shoe a retro outdoor feel, while the article does not specify the proportions of each material or provide a technical product specification from ASICS.
Midsole and outsole
The jagged midsole tooling is reported to take inspiration from the 2019 FujiTrabuco 7. Gear Patrol also names Flyfoam cushioning and an ASICSGrip outsole as the shoe’s contemporary underfoot features.

Is it a hiking shoe or a lifestyle sneaker?
Gear Patrol presents the GEL-Transcend FJ as lifestyle footwear with trail-oriented design elements. Its account does not include independent testing or evidence of hiking performance, so the archive references and outsole details should not be taken as proof that it is a technical hiking shoe. No waterproofing claim, fit assessment or performance result is established in that coverage.
