No return of gas-powered Porsche 718 Boxster or Cayman models has been announced. Production of the combustion-engine versions ended in October 2025, and Porsche’s current plan is for all-electric successors. The company expects those electric models to support sales in their first full production year in 2028, but that is a forecast—not a guarantee that every future 718 will use electricity or that a combustion model can never return.
What Porsche has announced about the next 718
Porsche’s announced successor direction is electric: the company has identified all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman models as part of its product plan. It expects them to support sales in their first full production year in 2028. That is Porsche’s current expectation, not confirmation of a precise launch date in every market or a guarantee that the schedule will hold. Porsche’s product-strategy announcement described the future 718 as part of its electric offering while noting that the company was adjusting its strategy in response to market conditions.
When combustion 718 production ended
Porsche’s 2025 Annual and Sustainability Report says production of the combustion-engined 718 Boxster and Cayman was discontinued in October 2025. The report records 15,856 vehicles produced and 18,612 deliveries for the 718 Boxster/Cayman line in 2025. Those are annual production and delivery figures, not counts of cars still available at dealerships. Porsche’s financial publications
Why 718s were still being delivered in 2026
Porsche reported 2,789 718 Boxster/Cayman deliveries in the first half of 2026, down 73.4% year over year. Deliveries count vehicles handed over to customers; they do not establish how many new or used examples remain for sale, nor do they reveal dealer inventory or waiting times. What is known—and not known—about a gas-engine return
The official information establishes that combustion production ended and that Porsche’s announced successor plan is electric. It does not establish a permanent promise about every future product decision. There is no confirmed combustion and electric successor pair in the cited product plan to compare on specifications, pricing, or performance. Porsche has not established final specifications, pricing, market-by-market launch timing, or availability for the planned electric models in these sources.
For buyers, the practical distinction is straightforward: a new combustion 718 is no longer in production, while the successor Porsche has announced is electric and still subject to future product and timing details. Anyone considering an existing Boxster or Cayman should assess the specific car’s condition, history, and local availability rather than infer supply or resale prices from Porsche’s delivery figures.
