There is no electric scooter established as safe for riding on snow or ice in the manufacturer guidance reviewed. Apollo advises against riding directly on snow, and KuKirin says it does not recommend riding in snowy conditions. For winter mobility, avoid snow, ice, slush and other uncertain-grip surfaces. A clear, maintained route may be an option only if the exact scooter’s manual permits the conditions and local rules allow its use.
Can you ride an electric scooter in snow?
Snow and ice reduce tire grip and can make a scooter difficult to control. Apollo says riding directly on snow is not advised; KuKirin likewise recommends against riding in snowy conditions and warns that slippery roads affect control. Neither wide tires, tread, dual motors nor high power establish that a scooter is safe on snow or ice.
That distinction matters even if a scooter has an IP water-resistance rating. Apollo describes its scooters as water-resistant, not waterproof, and cautions against prolonged snow exposure and deep-water riding. An IP rating is not permission to ride through snow, slush or standing water, and it does not establish safe traction.
What winter conditions can change
Cold-weather range
Cold can reduce usable battery range, but the amount depends on the model and conditions. Apollo Support says batteries below freezing could have 25% of their normal operating range; that is Apollo’s own claim, with no publication date stated on its page, not an independent measurement or a figure to apply to other scooters. Xiaomi’s guidance also says cold reduces lithium-ion battery activity. Plan for less range than in mild weather and leave a reserve rather than relying on an advertised maximum.

Battery protection and charging
Xiaomi says low-temperature protection on the Electric Scooter 5 Pro can reduce acceleration and cause charging issues. Check the exact model’s manual for permitted riding and charging temperatures, and heed dashboard warnings. Do not assume one manufacturer’s temperature limits or cold-weather behavior apply to another scooter.
Water exposure and storage
Read the exact model’s IP rating, manual and warranty terms, but do not treat them as a snow endorsement. KuKirin recommends storing scooters indoors and avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme cold. Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions after a cold ride instead of charging outside the stated temperature limits.

How to decide whether a winter trip is appropriate
- Check the surface. Do not ride on snow, ice, slush or a route where grip is uncertain. Consider only clear, maintained roads.
- Check the exact scooter variant’s manual. Confirm its operating and charging temperature limits, weather guidance, water-resistance limits and any warnings for the conditions you expect.
- Check local legality. Rules can depend on the scooter’s class and regional version. KuKirin Europe, for example, describes country-specific versions including German ABE and Spanish VMP variants; those examples are Europe-specific, not general legal advice.
- Plan conservatively. Expect less range in cold weather, leave a battery reserve, and do not set out if the route or conditions could exceed the scooter’s guidance.
- Use protective equipment. KuKirin recommends a helmet and appropriate protective gear. Protective equipment does not make snow or ice riding safe.
What to look for in a scooter for clear winter roads
The available manufacturer guidance does not support ranking a particular scooter as “best for snow.” It also does not provide comparative winter tire or braking-distance tests. If you are choosing a scooter for maintained winter roads, check the exact regional model’s manual and support guidance rather than treating a feature as proof of winter suitability.
