Apple began preparing U.S. viewers for its new Formula 1 rights well before the first 2026 race. On January 27, 2026, the Apple TV app added a Home-page collection called Get Ready for Formula 1 on Apple TV, bringing together explainers, schedules, highlights, season reviews, and supporting F2 and F3 coverage. The collection was an onboarding hub for viewers who were new to F1—or simply new to watching it through Apple—rather than just a promotional banner.
That pre-season programming led into Apple’s live U.S. F1 package, announced for launch on March 5. The package includes every 2026 Grand Prix live and on demand, plus practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, alternate feeds, live data, and Multiview. The arrangement described here applies to the United States; Apple TV is not the global home of Formula 1.
What Apple added to the Apple TV app
The reported January collection appeared directly on the Apple TV app’s Home page under the title Get Ready for Formula 1 on Apple TV. Its subtitle described the selection as “highlights, previews, and more.” Unlike a conventional article or an external web hub, the videos played inside the Apple TV app as a native playlist.

- Red Bull’s 2026 livery reveal
- An explanation of the 2026 Formula 1 rule changes
- A New Era of F1
- The 2026 Grand Prix schedule
- The 2026 Sprint schedule
- The F1 Academy schedule
- A review of the 2025 season
- Coverage of the Abu Dhabi championship decider
- Lando Norris in Ride with the Champ
- 2025 F2 and F3 coverage
This mix is significant because it addresses several different types of viewer. The rule-change video and schedules help newcomers understand the coming season. The 2025 review and Abu Dhabi coverage provide context for returning fans. The Lando Norris feature and junior-series programming broaden the package beyond a simple list of race dates.
The precise availability and ordering of individual videos may have changed after the January 27 report. The collection should therefore be described as a reported snapshot of the pre-season lineup, not as a permanent catalog or a claim that Apple produced every item exclusively for its service.

Why the pre-season playlist mattered
Apple and Formula 1 announced a five-year U.S. partnership on October 17, 2025. Under that deal, all F1 races were to become exclusive to Apple TV in the United States beginning with the 2026 season. F1 TV Premium was also described as continuing in the U.S. through an Apple TV subscription rather than being sold as a separate service in that market.
That made the January collection more than a collection of unrelated clips. It gave Apple a way to teach viewers where F1 content would live before the first race weekend. The timing also allowed casual sports viewers to learn the basic storylines and new rules before being asked to follow a live race.

Apple presented the broader partnership as a year-round fan experience, not only as a purchase of live broadcast rights. Its announcement emphasized live coverage, surrounding programming, and content intended both to retain existing fans and attract new ones. Apple also cited a U.S. F1 fanbase of 52 million in 2024 and findings from the 2025 Global F1 Fan Survey. Those audience figures are claims made by Apple in its announcement, not independently audited measurements established by the sources used here.
So the likely role of the pre-season collection was threefold:
- Explain the 2026 season: The rules and schedule videos reduce the learning curve for new viewers.
- Reintroduce the teams and drivers: Season reviews and personality-led features give viewers storylines to follow.
- Build a viewing habit: Existing U.S. fans were shown that F1 discovery, previews, and live coverage would now be found within Apple’s service.
The third point is an editorial inference from the collection’s timing and contents, rather than a stated Apple product objective. The evidence supports calling it an onboarding strategy, but not claiming that Apple publicly described the playlist in exactly those terms.
What the live F1 package includes
Apple’s March 5 launch announcement described a significantly larger product than the January playlist. U.S. subscribers can watch every 2026 Grand Prix live and on demand, including:

- Practice sessions
- Qualifying
- Sprint sessions
- The main Grand Prix races
- Pre-race and post-race programming
- Additional live feeds and data views
Apple identified English- and Spanish-language commentary, along with up to 30 additional feeds across sessions. The options include:
- Driver Tracker: a view focused on the cars’ positions and movement around the circuit.
- Live timing and telemetry: real-time race information and performance data.
- Mixed onboard: a feed assembled from driver-facing onboard cameras.
- Podium feed: a view following the drivers running first, second, and third.
The feature likely to matter most to viewers with more than one screen is Multiview. On supported devices, Apple says viewers can watch up to four feeds simultaneously. There are preconfigured layouts focused on teams, as well as customizable layouts that let viewers choose their preferred combination of feeds.
Apple’s support documentation also identifies the F1 area within the Apple TV app as the place to find pre- and post-race shows, onboard driver cameras, live data, and Driver Tracker. Full access to events, shows, and features requires an Apple TV subscription, although Apple notes that individual events may occasionally be offered promotionally.
The first race and the calendar caveat
The first 2026 race was the Australian Grand Prix. Apple’s March launch announcement listed the race for March 7 at 8 p.m. Pacific Time, while Formula 1’s official calendar identifies the event weekend as March 6–8, with the race taking place on Sunday, March 8, in local Australian time. The difference reflects time-zone presentation rather than two different race weekends.

The official calendar later listed the Dutch Grand Prix for August 21–23 as the next event after the Hungarian Grand Prix, according to the calendar status supplied for this article. Race dates and schedules can change, so readers should confirm the current calendar in the Apple TV app or through Formula 1 before planning travel or a viewing party.
How to watch F1 through Apple TV in the U.S.
- Confirm that you are in the United States. The Apple-F1 rights and the subscription access described here are U.S.-specific.
- Use a supported device. Apple lists iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, Apple Vision Pro, Mac, selected Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, and TCL smart TVs, Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation, Xbox, and the web at tv.apple.com.
- Open the Apple TV app. Look for the F1 screen or the relevant live event. The pre-season collection was placed on the Home page, but the live service has its own F1 area and event listings.
- Sign in and subscribe if required. Apple’s March 5 announcement listed the price as $12.99 per month and a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Those terms are date-sensitive; confirm the current price, trial eligibility, and availability before subscribing.
- Choose the coverage you want. You can select the main broadcast, practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, alternate feeds, or on-demand programming. On supported hardware, Multiview can show up to four feeds at once.
For a television that does not already support the Apple TV app, a Fire TV Stick 4K Max is one example of a 4K streaming device that can provide access through a supported Amazon Fire TV platform. It does not include an Apple TV subscription or Formula 1 rights; you still need a separate Apple TV subscription where required. Apple’s device support and the hardware model’s current availability should be checked before purchase.
An Apple TV 4K is another option, particularly for viewers who want Apple’s dedicated set-top box and Multiview support. It is not required: the supported-device list also includes compatible smart TVs, Roku, Chromecast with Google TV, game consoles, and web access. Compatibility can vary by model, operating system, country, and app version, so “Apple TV app available” should not automatically be read as “every feature available on every device.”

Where the rights apply—and where they do not
The central limitation is geography. Apple describes Apple TV as the exclusive U.S. home of F1 for the 2026 season, and Apple’s support material says the F1 screen is available to Apple TV subscribers in the United States. The cited deal does not establish that Apple TV carries Formula 1 globally.
Someone watching from another country should not assume that an Apple TV subscription provides the same races, feeds, commentary, or subscription terms. Local broadcasters and Formula 1’s own services may have different rights in those markets. The U.S. terms also should not be generalized to every country in which the Apple TV app itself is available.
Apple’s wider F1 ecosystem
The F1 launch extends beyond video. Apple’s partnership announcement said Apple Sports would provide live updates for qualifying, Sprint sessions, and races, alongside leaderboards, standings, Live Activities, and an iPhone widget. That makes Apple Sports a useful companion for viewers who want timing, positions, and notifications without keeping a video stream open continuously.
Apple also promoted additional F1-related connections involving Apple Music, Apple News, podcasts, and Apple Maps circuit layouts. The Associated Press described these as part of a wider effort to use race weekends to showcase Apple’s ecosystem. They should be understood as supporting experiences, not as components of the January Get Ready for Formula 1 on Apple TV playlist.
Apple also announced distribution arrangements involving Prime Video, Roku’s Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel, DIRECTV, Xfinity, and EverPass. It cited collaborations with Tubi, Yahoo Sports, TelevisaUnivision, and IMAX, although some details—such as the exact races to be shown on Tubi—were still to be announced in the March release. These arrangements may affect how some viewers access or discover F1 content, but they do not change the basic distinction between Apple’s U.S. rights and the availability of the Apple TV app in other countries.
What this means for new and returning F1 viewers
For a newcomer, the most useful part of Apple’s rollout may be the material that appears before a live race. A season review explains the recent championship context; a rule-change explainer helps viewers understand what is different in 2026; and the Grand Prix, Sprint, and F1 Academy schedules show how the weekend fits together.

- Frameless Design: You can stick them directly on the wall or prepare a suitable frame and fix it on the wall, perfectly decorating your room.
For an experienced fan, the value is less about learning the rules and more about choice. The live package adds alternate camera and data feeds, while Multiview allows a viewer to follow the main broadcast, timing information, and driver cameras together. That flexibility is useful during strategic moments, although the practical experience will depend on the device, network, display, and app implementation. The available sources document Apple’s features, not independent tests of stream quality, latency, or performance.
The strategic difference from a simple race broadcast is that Apple has placed discovery, editorial programming, live events, and companion services in the same ecosystem. Whether that produces a better experience than the previous U.S. viewing arrangement is subjective, but the product design is clear: Apple wants viewers to encounter F1 before, during, and after the race weekend.

Apple’s January 2026 F1 collection was the front door to a much larger U.S. product launch. It gave viewers schedules, explainers, highlights, and season context inside the Apple TV app before Apple began carrying every 2026 Grand Prix live. The resulting service combines the main broadcast with practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, alternate feeds, timing data, Driver Tracker, and Multiview—but the rights are U.S.-only, subscription terms can change, and the exact availability of individual pre-season videos may not remain fixed.
