When Apple Music stops working in a Tesla, the cause is usually one of five things: the wrong Apple Account or an expired subscription, a Tesla connectivity problem, a frozen touchscreen or outdated vehicle software, stale authorization, or audio being routed somewhere else. Work through the fixes below in order. Apple Music and Tesla Premium Connectivity are separate subscriptions: Premium Connectivity provides Tesla connectivity over cellular, but it generally does not include an Apple Music plan.
First, identify which Apple Music problem you have

Apple Music is available as a native Tesla media app on supported vehicles, software versions, and markets. Tesla’s owner’s manuals list Apple Music among supported media services, while noting that availability can vary by market. The same general qualification applies across Tesla models, including Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck.

Fix 1: Verify the Apple Music subscription and Apple Account
This is the right starting point if you see a repeated sign-in prompt, an empty Library, unavailable songs, or an authentication QR code that never completes.
- Open Apple Music from the Tesla touchscreen’s media player or app launcher.
- Open the app’s Account or sign-in area.
- Scan the displayed QR code or follow the on-screen verification instructions.
- Sign in with the Apple Account that actually owns the Apple Music subscription.
- Try a known available track, album, or playlist.
Apple’s instructions for using Apple Music in a vehicle explain that built-in vehicle apps may use a QR scan or verification code. If you use an Apple Music Family plan, make sure you are signing in with the Apple Account included in that family group—not simply an account that is signed in on the phone.

Also check that the Apple Music plan is active in your Apple account or Music settings. Apple Music pricing and plan availability vary by country; in the United States, Apple’s current page lists separate Individual, Family, and Student plans. Do not buy a new plan just because Tesla Premium Connectivity is active.
Authentication can also fail when the phone has no internet access, a VPN interferes with the QR flow, or the Apple Account needs additional verification. Never give your Apple Account password to Tesla staff or an untrusted third party.
Fix 2: Check Tesla connectivity, Wi-Fi, and Premium Connectivity
Test this fix if Apple Music shows a loading indicator, reports that the network is unavailable, stops when you leave home, or fails along with other online Tesla features.

- Test another online Tesla feature, such as live traffic or another streaming service.
- In the Tesla app, check Upgrades > Software Upgrades and review Premium Connectivity eligibility and subscription status.
- Confirm that your Apple Music subscription is active separately.
- If Wi-Fi is connected but unreliable, disconnect it temporarily and test Tesla’s cellular connection.
- If the cellular signal is weak, move to a location with better coverage and test again.
Tesla describes Standard Connectivity and Premium Connectivity as vehicle connectivity services. Standard Connectivity includes features such as Bluetooth and USB playback; Premium Connectivity adds eligible connectivity features over cellular. A paid third-party streaming subscription is still generally required for Apple Music.

That distinction matters:
- Only Apple Music fails while maps and other online features work: suspect account authorization, Apple Music availability, or an app-specific Tesla software issue.
- Several online features fail together: suspect cellular coverage, Premium Connectivity, or vehicle software.
- Music plays with no audible sound: investigate audio routing rather than paying for a connectivity service.
Tesla’s connectivity page currently displays Premium Connectivity pricing of $9.99 per month plus tax or $99 per year plus tax in the applicable market, but eligibility and displayed pricing can vary. Tesla has also changed how streaming accounts are included: deliveries on or after October 1, 2024 generally do not include a streaming music account, and older included accounts ended December 1, 2024, subject to vehicle-specific exceptions. Check the vehicle or Tesla app instead of relying on an older sales description.
Fix 3: Restart the touchscreen and update Tesla software
Use this step when Apple Music previously worked but now opens to a blank screen, freezes, ignores touch input, or has stuck playback controls.
- Park safely and put the Tesla in Park.
- Press and hold both steering-wheel scroll buttons.
- Keep holding until the touchscreen turns black and begins restarting.
- Wait for the display and essential controls to return fully.
- Reopen Apple Music and test playback.
Do not perform the touchscreen restart while driving, and do not operate the vehicle until the display has returned. This resets the touchscreen interface; it does not repair an expired Apple Music plan or a service outage.
Next, check Controls > Software for a pending Tesla vehicle update. Install updates while safely parked and under the conditions shown by the vehicle. Tesla recommends current vehicle software when troubleshooting connectivity problems.

A deeper reset if the problem persists
If the touchscreen restart changes nothing, Tesla vehicles may also provide a parked-vehicle power-off option under Controls > Safety > Power Off. Menu labels can vary by software version. Select it only while parked, then avoid pressing pedals, opening doors, or interacting with the vehicle for approximately two minutes before waking it and testing again. Treat this as a deeper recovery step, not the routine first fix.
Fix 4: Sign out, revoke access, and sign in again
Reauthentication is especially useful when the QR code appeared to work but the app still loops, shows another driver’s playlists, or remains tied to an old Apple Account.
- Open Apple Music in the Tesla.
- Open Account.
- Choose the available sign-out, unlink, or remove-account option.
- Close and reopen the media app.
- Scan the new QR code or complete the new verification flow.
- Use the correct Apple Account and test a playlist, album, and individual track.
If the Tesla app does not show a sign-out control, Apple’s vehicle Apple Music instructions describe removing the vehicle’s access from the Music app or connected-app access area on another device. After removing access, restart the Tesla touchscreen and authenticate again.

Tesla does not provide a universal Apple Music “clear cache” menu on every software version, so do not hunt for or rely on a cache-clearing path that is not present on your screen. Reinstalling the Tesla mobile app is also not a first-line fix for the native media app; Tesla warns that reinstalling its app may require you to pair a phone key again.

Fix 5: Use Bluetooth or USB while diagnosing the native app
A fallback connection can get music playing immediately and helps isolate the fault. If Apple Music works over Bluetooth, the phone account and Apple Music service are probably functioning; the problem is more likely in Tesla’s native app, authorization, or vehicle data connection.
Bluetooth
- On the phone, open Settings > Bluetooth and make the phone discoverable.
- Open the Tesla phone or Bluetooth settings.
- Select the phone and complete the pairing confirmation on both screens.
- Choose the phone as the media source.
- Start Apple Music on the phone and test playback.
Apple lists Bluetooth as a supported way to listen to Apple Music in a vehicle. Bluetooth does not require Premium Connectivity, and it does not require the Tesla’s native Apple Music app to authenticate.
USB
You can also use locally stored music with a compatible USB drive and supported audio files if your Tesla supports USB music playback. Compatibility depends on the vehicle, port, storage device, and file format. Tesla notes in its Model 3 manual that some vehicles built after approximately November 1, 2021 have center-console USB ports that support charging only. Do not assume every USB port can read music data.

When the track timer moves or the Tesla says music is playing, connectivity is probably not the immediate problem. Check:

- Tesla volume and mute status.
- Phone volume if you are using Bluetooth.
- Fade and balance settings.
- Whether the selected source is still another media app.
- Whether a phone call, navigation instruction, or voice command temporarily lowered playback.
Try a different track and media source. If every source is silent, the issue may involve the vehicle’s audio system rather than Apple Music.
When to contact Tesla
Contact Tesla Support or schedule service if multiple connectivity features continue failing after checking the subscription, updating software, and restarting the touchscreen; the cellular indicator remains unavailable where service should be present; the touchscreen repeatedly freezes; or Apple Music still fails after access has been revoked and reauthorized.
Tesla’s connectivity troubleshooting guidance recommends checking subscriptions, software, cellular service, and Wi-Fi. If one connectivity feature fails, support may be appropriate; if several fail together, a restart followed by service escalation may be necessary.
