Android Auto 15.7 was a genuine Google-signed beta branch, but it is not the current Android Auto release. The 15.7 builds appeared in late 2025 and were associated with Google’s broader work on custom dashboard widgets and Gemini-powered car features. However, installing Android Auto 15.7 did not guarantee that every driver would see widgets or Gemini. Availability could depend on Google’s server-side rollout, account, region, vehicle, display and app configuration.
As of August 18, 2026, later Android Auto 16.x and 17.x builds were already listed, so 15.7 is best treated as a historical preview—not the recommended version for a daily driver.

What is Android Auto 15.7?
Android Auto is Google’s phone-projection platform. Your Android phone runs the software, while a compatible vehicle display or aftermarket receiver provides the screen and controls.
That is different from Android Automotive OS, which is built into some vehicles and runs its own apps and Google Play environment. Android Auto 15.7 is a version of the phone-based projection software—not Android Automotive OS 15.7 and not a new Android phone operating system.

See the 15.7.1545 listing and 15.7.6546 listing for the package details. Their visible changelog is generic—bug fixes and other improvements—so claims about widgets and Gemini should not be presented as official 15.7 release-note features.
Did Android Auto 15.7 add custom home-screen widgets?
Google confirmed the direction of the feature in its May 2026 announcement: Android Auto was being refreshed with custom widgets and immersive 3D maps. That confirms Google’s product roadmap, but it does not prove that every Android Auto 15.7 installation exposed a finished widget interface.
Depending on the rollout, widgets may have been:
- Visible only to selected beta users;
- Controlled by a server-side flag;
- Limited to certain vehicles, display sizes, phones or accounts;
- Present as hidden interface scaffolding in the APK; or
- Revised or enabled more broadly in later Android Auto versions.
Do not interpret “custom widgets” as unlimited support for arbitrary Android phone widgets. Google’s announcement does not establish that every third-party phone widget can be placed on the car screen, resized freely or used while driving. The exact widget selection and layout may vary by release and vehicle.

Google’s Gemini phone-widget documentation describes shortcuts for Gemini, Gemini Live, the microphone, camera, Files and image upload on the phone’s home screen. That does not show that the same widget can be placed inside Android Auto.
What does Gemini integration mean?
“Gemini integration” can describe several different features. It does not necessarily mean that Android Auto 15.7 delivered a complete Gemini dashboard assistant to everyone.
Possible Gemini layers
- Voice-assistant changes: Gemini may handle voice interactions that were previously handled by Google Assistant.
- Navigation interoperability: Google’s car documentation describes Gemini or Google Assistant sending navigation, search and custom-action intents to supported navigation apps. See the Google Assistant and Gemini intents documentation.
- Messaging: Supported templated car messaging experiences may allow reading and replying through Gemini or Google Assistant. Details are covered in Google’s car communications guidance.
- Native vehicle integration: Vehicles with Google built-in may receive Gemini through Android Automotive OS rather than through phone projection.
Evidence such as screenshots, application strings or feature flags can show that Google was preparing or testing a capability. It does not, by itself, prove that Gemini responded through the steering-wheel button, handled navigation, summarized messages or supported contextual commands in public Android Auto 15.7.

Feature availability may depend on your Google account, language, country, vehicle, head unit, phone, Android version and Google’s remote rollout. Updating the APK alone cannot necessarily activate a server-controlled feature.
Is Android Auto 15.7 still current?
No. On August 18, 2026, the Android Auto archive listed later 16.x and 17.x packages, including Android Auto 17.0.6622 uploaded June 15, 2026, and 17.1.6624 uploaded July 8, 2026. Check the Android Auto archive for the version history.
If you want the current widget or Gemini implementation, use the latest official Google Play release or an available Google Play beta. Android Auto 15.7 is mainly useful if you are reproducing a specific historical beta or investigating how the redesign developed.
Should you install Android Auto 15.7?

Compatibility and download details
Google’s Android Auto documentation lists compatibility with phones running Android 9/API level 28 or newer. The 15.7.1545 arm64-v8a listing also specifies Android 9.0 or newer and 120–640 dpi.

The relevant APKMirror downloads are shown as APK bundles, not necessarily one universal standalone APK. An APKM/APKS-style bundle normally requires a bundle-capable installer; tapping it with Android’s standard package installer may fail.
APKMirror lists these packages as signed by Google LLC, with SHA-1 fingerprints beginning 9ca9... and a60b... on the respective pages. APKMirror is not Google Play, however, so use the normal Play Store path whenever possible.
How to install Android Auto 15.7 safely
- Try Google Play first. Check the normal Android Auto listing and the official beta channel if it is available in your account and region.
- Use the specific APKMirror Google LLC listing only when you have a reason to reproduce 15.7. Avoid random APK-hosting sites.
- Confirm the file type. Use a bundle-capable installer for APKM/APKS-style packages.
- Choose the correct ABI and Android requirement. Do not automatically select arm64-v8a without checking your device.
- Record your current version before attempting an update or downgrade.
- Verify the package identity and signer against the listing before installing.
- Reconnect the phone and vehicle after installation. If projection does not start, reboot both the phone and head unit.
Android may reject a downgrade or a package with a mismatched signature. Uninstalling the existing installation can also remove local state and make returning to Google Play more complicated, so do not uninstall casually.

Enable Android Auto developer mode
Developer mode exposes testing controls; it does not unlock server-controlled widgets or Gemini.
On Android 10 or newer, Google’s documented path is:
- Open Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > Android Auto > Advanced > Additional settings in the app.
- Open About.
- Tap Version to show version and permission information.
- Tap Version and permission info 10 times.
- Confirm Allow development settings?.
- Open the overflow menu to view developer options.

Troubleshooting
“App not installed” or signature mismatch
Use the matching variant and preserve the existing Google-signed installation where possible. Android may block a downgrade or reject a package signed differently from the installed version.
The bundle will not open
Install it with a tool that supports APK bundles. A bundle is not always installable by tapping it like a single APK.
Widgets or Gemini are missing
This does not necessarily mean the installation failed. The feature may be limited by account, region, vehicle, screen size, rollout group or later software. Installing 15.7 cannot guarantee activation.
Android Auto is missing from the app drawer
On newer Android versions, Android Auto may be integrated into system settings rather than shown as a conventional app icon. Search Settings for Android Auto.
Projection stops working
- Reboot the phone and head unit.
- For wired connections, try a different high-quality USB cable.
- Clear Android Auto’s cache.
- Remove the vehicle connection and pair it again.
- Return to the Google Play version if the sideloaded build remains unstable.
Never change developer settings or troubleshoot Android Auto while driving. Park first.

A vehicle running Android Automotive OS may show Gemini, Google Play and native car features that do not appear when the same phone is projected through Android Auto. The platforms are related but distinct, and native vehicle software can receive features through a different update and rollout system.
