Android Auto 13.8 Stable Update Released: What Changed and How to Update

The Android Auto 13.8 stable update was released around February 24–25, 2025, not in 2026. Android Auto 13.8 was a minor maintenance release with no confirmed major redesign; code hinted at future parked apps, but it did not prove general video streaming. Google Play has since listed later Android Auto development.

That date correction matters because “New Stable Android Auto 13.8 Update Released” can make an older report look like current news. The release remains useful to understand if a phone, APK archive, or forum post mentions version 13.8, but drivers looking for the newest Android Auto build should use Google Play rather than try to force an old version.

Key takeaways

  • Android Auto 13.8 stable update reached users around February 24–25, 2025, so it is a historical release rather than the newest version on August 14, 2026.
  • Android Auto 13.8 was mainly a minor maintenance release, and contemporaneous reporting found no clearly confirmed major user-facing redesign or feature change.
  • Code in Android Auto 13.8 included “Tap to open” and “Open while parked” strings for future parked apps, but the release did not prove that general video streaming became available.
  • The normal update method is Google Play; manual Android Auto 13.8 APK installation is an advanced sideloading option and is not the recommended default.
  • Google lists Android 9 or newer for most wired connections and Android 11 or newer for wireless Android Auto, plus a compatible vehicle or aftermarket receiver.

What is the Android Auto 13.8 stable update?

The Android Auto 13.8 stable update was a February 2025 maintenance release, not a new release in August 2026. Reports dated February 24 and 25, 2025 described Android Auto 13.8 as rolling out through Google Play, with no clearly documented major change visible to drivers. Contemporaneous 9to5Google coverage also found no direct user-facing changes during brief testing.

Google did not publish a detailed public changelog for Android Auto 13.8. That means claims that version 13.8 definitely fixed Google Maps, wireless audio, crashes, reboots, or a particular connection fault should be treated cautiously unless a device-specific or primary-source confirmation exists.

Question Answer for Android Auto 13.8
When was it released? Approximately February 24–25, 2025.
Was it a major redesign? No major user-facing redesign was confirmed in contemporaneous reporting.
Was it the latest version on August 14, 2026? No. Google Play showed Android Auto continuing to receive later development, with the listing updated July 7, 2026.
Did it add general video streaming? No confirmed evidence. Parked-app strings indicated preparation, not a generally available video feature.

Is Android Auto 13.8 released?

Yes, Android Auto 13.8 was released as a stable version around February 24–25, 2025. If a website or device notification describes Android Auto 13.8 as “new” today, the date is stale: the version was about 18 months old as of August 14, 2026.

The official Android Auto Google Play listing identifies Google LLC as the developer and showed an update date of July 7, 2026. The current listing does not provide a complete historical rollout log, so there is no reliable basis here for stating one universal Android Auto 13.8 build number or a precise staged-rollout geography.

What’s new in Android Auto 13.8?

Android Auto 13.8 was primarily a minor patch, and no major user-facing feature was confirmed in the reporting available for the stable rollout. The most notable discovery was behind-the-scenes code associated with future parked apps.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Code inspection identified the strings “Tap to open” and “Open while parked.” Those strings suggest that Google was preparing Android Auto to support selected apps or experiences when a vehicle is stationary. The strings do not show that a complete parked-app system shipped to every user in version 13.8.

In particular, Android Auto 13.8 did not establish that drivers received general video streaming. A parked-app framework, an individual app’s approval, vehicle restrictions, and regional availability would all be separate questions. The contemporaneous code analysis describes groundwork rather than a finished, broadly available feature.

How do I update Android Auto to 13.8?

The supported consumer route is Google Play. Because Android Auto 13.8 is an older release, Google Play may offer a later version instead of version 13.8; users generally cannot select an arbitrary historical version from the standard Play interface.

  1. Open the Google Play Store on the Android phone.
  2. Search for Android Auto.
  3. Select the app published by Google LLC.
  4. Tap Update if an update is available. If the button says Open, the Play Store is not currently offering an update to that device through the normal channel.
  5. If the car does not reconnect, restart the phone and the vehicle’s infotainment system before testing again.

Newer Android phones may not show Android Auto as a conventional standalone app because Android Auto technology is built into the phone. Google’s troubleshooting documentation explains that Android Auto connects the phone to the vehicle display, so the absence of a familiar standalone app icon does not by itself mean Android Auto is missing. Google’s Android Auto troubleshooting guide is the appropriate starting point when the app or connection does not behave normally.

Should you install an Android Auto 13.8 APK?

Manual installation of an Android Auto 13.8 APK should be treated as an advanced sideloading method, not the default way to update Android Auto. Google Play is safer and simpler for most drivers, and installing an older APK will not necessarily solve a cable, vehicle-firmware, pairing, or compatibility problem.

If a user has a legitimate reason to install a historical APK, the user must independently verify the download source, Android version, processor architecture, package signature, and file integrity. A mismatched or modified APK can fail to install or create additional security and compatibility risks. Do not assume that an unofficial APK mirror is equivalent to the Google Play distribution, and do not use an APK as proof that Android Auto 13.8 is the current version.

Does Android Auto 13.8 add video?

No confirmed evidence shows that Android Auto 13.8 added general video streaming. The “Tap to open” and “Open while parked” strings indicate preparation for future parked apps, but they do not prove that video apps became available to all Android Auto 13.8 users.

Android Auto is designed around a driver-optimized experience, so availability can depend on whether the vehicle is parked, the app is approved, the phone and car support the capability, and the feature is available in the user’s country. A reader should not install Android Auto 13.8 expecting a video catalog or a particular streaming service.

What phones and cars support Android Auto 13.8?

Android Auto compatibility depends on the phone, connection method, vehicle or aftermarket receiver, receiver firmware, and geography—not only on the Android Auto app version. Google’s current requirements list Android 9.0 or newer for most wired connections and Android 11.0 or newer for wireless connections. Google’s Android Auto requirements page also requires a compatible car or stereo system.

Android Developers describes Android Auto as “a driver-optimized app experience for users who have an Android phone with the Android Auto app and a compatible car or aftermarket stereo system.” Google’s current product page similarly says, “Android Auto lets you use your voice to control more in your car.” Those statements describe the platform; they do not guarantee that every Android phone, car, receiver, or feature works together.

Connection or hardware choice What to check Main trade-off
Wired Android Auto Android 9 or newer for most wired connections, compatible vehicle or receiver, and a high-quality USB data cable. Usually straightforward, but the cable and vehicle USB port become possible failure points.
Wireless Android Auto Android 11 or newer under Google’s current guidance, plus wireless support in both the phone and the car or stereo. Less cable clutter, but compatibility is more restrictive.
Factory infotainment system Vehicle model, trim, region, and infotainment firmware. Integrated controls may work well, but updates and compatibility depend on the vehicle maker.
Aftermarket receiver Receiver model, Android Auto support, wireless capability, firmware, installation, and vehicle integration. Can retrofit an older vehicle, but installation and steering-wheel or camera integration require extra checks.

Google maintains an Android Auto vehicle and stereo compatibility list. Google’s current documentation says Android Auto works with more than 500 vehicle models, but the exact result for a reader can still vary by model year, trim, market, receiver, and connection mode.

Why is Android Auto 13.8 not connecting?

When Android Auto 13.8 is not connecting, first separate an app-update issue from a cable, pairing, vehicle-support, or receiver-firmware issue. Android Auto 13.8 did not guarantee a fix for every connection fault, and a newer app version may be installed even when the underlying problem remains.

Wired connection checklist

  1. Confirm that the vehicle or aftermarket stereo supports Android Auto.
  2. Make sure Android Auto is enabled in the car’s infotainment settings.
  3. Restart the phone and infotainment system.
  4. Replace the USB cable if wired Android Auto worked previously and then stopped.
  5. Use a high-quality USB data cable, preferably shorter than 1 metre (3 feet).
  6. Do not use a USB hub or extension.
  7. Try the cable supplied by the phone manufacturer, if its connector matches the phone and vehicle.

Google specifically recommends a high-quality cable for wired Android Auto and advises avoiding cables longer than 1 metre, hubs, and extensions. A high-quality USB-C cable for Android Auto can be a sensible replacement when a previously reliable wired connection becomes intermittent, but a cable is not a guaranteed software fix and must match the phone’s connector and the vehicle’s USB port.

Wireless connection checklist

  1. Confirm that both the phone and the vehicle or receiver support wireless Android Auto.
  2. Check that the phone meets the current Android version requirement for wireless use.
  3. Restart the phone and the infotainment system.
  4. Check the aftermarket receiver maker’s firmware page or update procedure.
  5. Forget previously connected cars on the phone and pair the intended vehicle again if another vehicle is interfering with the connection.

Wireless Android Auto support is more restrictive than wired support because both ends of the connection must support the wireless mode. A wireless adapter may help only in the specific setup for which the adapter and vehicle are compatible; Android Auto 13.8 itself does not establish compatibility with any particular adapter.

What should you check before replacing hardware?

Check software settings, the USB cable, vehicle support, and receiver firmware before buying a new head unit or adapter. Google’s official troubleshooting path focuses on the phone, cable, vehicle, receiver, and compatibility rather than generic computer-cleanup tools.

For an older vehicle, an Android Auto-compatible aftermarket car stereo can be a legitimate retrofit category, but it is not a direct Android Auto 13.8 upgrade. Compare wired and wireless support, vehicle compatibility, firmware-update policy, screen and control integration, installation requirements, and whether steering-wheel controls, cameras, or factory amplifiers will continue to work. Use Google’s compatibility information as a starting point, then verify the exact receiver and vehicle combination with the manufacturers.

What is the bottom line on Android Auto 13.8?

Android Auto 13.8 was a real stable update released in February 2025, but it is not new as of August 14, 2026. The release was mainly a minor maintenance patch, with code suggesting future parked-app support rather than a confirmed video feature. Update through Google Play, verify current compatibility, and troubleshoot the cable, pairing, vehicle settings, and receiver firmware before sideloading an APK or replacing hardware.
