Because the timing overlapped, many reports treated the centered map as an Android Auto 13.6 feature. The available testing does not support that conclusion. The behavior was reportedly already present on Android Auto 13.4 after Google Maps itself was updated, indicating that it was a separate Maps-side interface rollout rather than a confirmed 13.6 change.
The effect was most noticeable in the idle or pre-navigation map view. During active turn-by-turn navigation, Maps repositioned the map to show the route and upcoming turns. Google later appeared to reverse the centered behavior through a server-side Maps change in early February 2025.

LECCS and Type 6 charging
References to LECCS and Type 6 charging likewise should be treated as possible code-level or compatibility work. The presence of a string does not establish that Android Auto exposed a charging workflow, that it worked in a particular country, or that it supported a particular vehicle.

What about downloading an APK?
Third-party package repositories cataloged Android Auto 13.6 APK variants, but sideloading is not equivalent to receiving the Google Play rollout. An APK may target a particular processor architecture, Android version, or device configuration; it may also bypass the normal update and support path.

Should you update to Android Auto 13.6?
