The Giulia Quadrifoglio may appeal more if you want rear-wheel-drive character and Italian styling, but Alfa Romeo’s global page says it is no longer available to order through that page and directs buyers to check local stock. Availability and specifications depend on your country and model year, so confirm both before comparing prices.
Start with availability and the exact versions
This is not a like-for-like comparison between two fixed cars. BMW USA currently lists three M3 sedans. Alfa Romeo’s global page describes a 520 HP rear-wheel-drive Giulia Quadrifoglio, but says it is no longer available to order through that page. Market and model year matter. For example, Alfa Romeo Ireland’s March 2024 MY24 guide lists a 510 hp, 2.9-litre V6 Quadrifoglio with automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, at €134,000. Before comparing, establish whether you are shopping for a new, remaining-stock or used Quadrifoglio, then match its model year, drivetrain and equipment against the M3 you would actually buy.

How the current BMW USA M3 range compares
BMW USA lists the following M3 sedans and starting MSRPs. These are manufacturer-listed U.S. figures, not dealer transaction prices. BMW describes its 0–60 mph performance results as preliminary and says actual results vary with the vehicle and conditions. BMW USA M3 lineup and technical highlights.

The lineup gives the M3 a clear advantage in configuration choice if you are shopping in the U.S. and specifically want a manual or factory all-wheel drive. The global Alfa page cited above describes a rear-drive car, while the Ireland MY24 guide documents an all-wheel-drive version; do not assume the drivetrain is identical across markets and years. Performance: claims and test results are not the same comparison
The BMW figures in the table are current manufacturer claims for its listed U.S. models, with the preliminary-results qualification noted by BMW. Alfa Romeo’s global page describes a 520 HP Quadrifoglio and reports 10.1 l/100 km WLTP combined fuel consumption, with 228–229 g/km CO₂. Those are page-specific, type-approval figures dated 2023, not a real-world fuel-economy prediction or a direct acceleration comparison with the current BMWs. Alfa Romeo’s global model page.
Historical instrumented tests show how particular cars performed, not how today’s configurations would fare in a controlled head-to-head. In MotorTrend’s 2021 comparison, the tested 2020 Giulia Quadrifoglio reached 60 mph in 3.7 seconds; the tested 2021 M3 Competition did it in 3.5 seconds. The BMW ran the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 125.6 mph, 0.3 seconds and 5.5 mph ahead of the Alfa in that test. Differences in model year, specification and test conditions matter. Auto Express’s UK comparison found similar claimed output and acceleration in the versions it tested. Its reviewers praised the Alfa’s road feel and judged the BMW’s cabin more modern and better finished. That is useful context for the character of those cars, not a guarantee about every year, trim or market. Auto Express’s comparison.
Cabin, comfort and everyday use
The historical reviews point to a trade-off rather than a universal winner. Auto Express preferred the BMW’s cabin finish and modernity, while highlighting the Alfa’s road feel. MotorTrend also criticized the BMW’s optional aggressive seats and interface in its test. The seat option is important: an opinion about a particular test car does not describe every M3 seat configuration.

- Try the exact seats. Check comfort and support in the car you would buy, especially if it has optional sport seats.
- Use the infotainment yourself. Navigate the menus and try the controls you would use on a normal drive instead of relying only on a reviewer’s interface judgment.
- Check practical fit. Bring passengers or luggage if rear-seat room and boot space affect your decision; the cited comparisons discuss practicality, but the evidence here does not establish a current, same-model-year measurement contest.
Price, ownership and what to verify before buying
BMW’s U.S. starting MSRPs make it possible to compare its listed M3 variants on a consistent market basis, but they do not tell you the negotiated price, options or local taxes. Alfa Romeo Ireland’s €134,000 figure is for its March 2024 MY24 listing and excludes delivery and options; it should not be treated as a current quote or compared directly with U.S. MSRP. Seek a current, local quote for the specific Quadrifoglio and M3 configurations under consideration.
The available evidence does not support calling either car more reliable or cheaper to maintain. Compare local warranty terms and service access, and obtain insurance quotes. For a used example, review its service history and arrange an inspection; for either car, account for tires and brakes as part of ownership costs.

- Check whether the Alfa is actually available. Ask local Alfa Romeo retailers about new orders, remaining stock and used cars; the global page itself directs shoppers to country-specific stock information.
- Match specifications. Compare the same model year, drivetrain, transmission and significant equipment, rather than relying on a model name alone.
- Compare real purchase terms. Put a local dealer quote beside the other car’s quote, including options, delivery and applicable taxes or fees.
- Drive and inspect the exact cars. Evaluate seats, interface and everyday practicality, and get a used car’s condition and records checked.
Which sports sedan is right for you?
Choose the BMW M3 if you want the broader U.S. configuration choice—especially a manual rear-drive sedan or an automatic all-wheel-drive model—and a car currently listed with a published starting MSRP. Consider a Giulia Quadrifoglio if a locally available example suits your needs and its rear-drive character, styling and road feel matter more to you than the BMW’s broader listed choice. For either, make the decision using local availability, comparable specifications and actual purchase terms, not a headline power figure or a historical test result.
