A 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat Standard Range reached 233,930 miles before its original high-voltage battery failed. Out of Spec Renew documented a repair that put the truck back in service with a complete used battery pack—a striking durability case, but not a lifespan guarantee for other Lightnings.
What happened to this high-mileage Lightning?
The truck was a 2022 F-150 Lightning Lariat Standard Range. The Drive reported that its original 98-kWh battery pack failed at an odometer reading of 233,930 miles. When new, this configuration had an EPA-rated range of 230 miles, according to the same report.

It was not a pristine, lightly used example: The Drive described a busted rear window, cracked windshield, dents and scrapes. Those details give the mileage context, but they do not establish how the truck was driven, charged or maintained over its life.
Why replace the whole pack instead of one module?
The Standard Range pack has nine modules. In the failed pack, the fourth module reportedly showed a 317-millivolt imbalance between cells. That measurement identifies an imbalance in that module; it does not, on its own, establish the underlying cause of the battery failure.

A single-module repair would have required finding a compatible replacement with a similar state of health. Because sourcing a well-matched used module could be difficult, the repair used a complete used Standard Range pack instead. The report did not establish the original failure’s root cause. A possible weak short was discussed as speculation, not as a confirmed diagnosis.
How was the battery pack swapped?
Out of Spec Renew documented the work as a substantial underbody repair, not a quick parts change. The reported steps included:

The account shows that a pack swap was carried out on this truck. It is not a do-it-yourself procedure: high-voltage components require appropriate equipment and expertise. Anyone considering a repair should confirm that the technician is qualified to work on high-voltage systems and that the replacement pack is compatible with the truck’s trim and software.

It establishes that this particular truck accumulated 233,930 miles before its original traction battery failed. It does not establish a typical Lightning battery lifespan, a guaranteed service interval, or the mileage at which another pack will need repair. One unusually high-mileage vehicle cannot answer those fleet-wide questions.

Ford’s 2025 specifications describe later model-year configurations, not the 2022 truck in this repair. The company lists liquid-cooled lithium-ion pouch batteries and says actual range varies with conditions including environment, vehicle use, maintenance, and battery age and state of health. The 2025 capacities and EPA-estimated ranges are:

What does it cost to replace a Lightning battery?
No verified invoice, labor total or universal replacement price was published for this repair. A single cost figure would be misleading: the bill can depend on whether the repair uses a whole pack or a module, the donor pack’s price and shipping, labor, and the work needed to match the replacement to the vehicle. This case does not provide enough information to calculate a reliable total.
