It borrowed elements from skates, bicycles and scooters, but the available firsthand account describes a short, assisted tryout—not proof that it was easy to learn or safer than those alternatives.
How the Aeyo worked
New Atlas encountered the Aeyo at ISPO Munich in 2014 and described a front-wheel device with two strap-on foot units. As the rider pushed the legs outward and inward in a skating pattern, articulated links transferred that motion to the wheel. A handlebar steered the device, and handbrakes operated at the foot units. The arrangement was intended to let the feet move while limiting their tilt.
The frame folded at the same joints used during the skating motion; New Atlas reported that magnets held the folded package together. An earlier 2012 Krone report described an aluminum folding frame and skates usable with ordinary shoes. These are historical descriptions, not a current specification sheet.
What riding it was like
New Atlas writer C.C. Weiss tried the Aeyo during a brief 2014 exhibition demonstration. He needed staff to steady him and strap him in, struggled to follow the instructions, and did not master the motion in five minutes. He wrote, “So long as I held the brakes firmly, I had no problem maintaining balance.” That observation describes his own short, assisted demo; it does not establish how typical riders perform.

Weiss said the movement did not feel natural to him, while Aemotics described a learning period. The account suggests that the Aeyo was not simply a bicycle or scooter with a different stance: it required coordinating a skating-style leg action with steering and braking.
Was it safer or a better workout?
The linked feet, handlebar and handbrakes were presented as ways to help stabilize the ride compared with inline skating. Krone reported inventor Andreas Epstein’s explanation that he developed the device because he “found inline skating too dangerous” (translated from the German report). These are design intent and inventor positioning, not independent evidence that the Aeyo was safer.

The sources available here include no independent crash tests, injury data, standards assessment or controlled comparison with skates, bicycles or scooters. Likewise, Aemotics’ claim, reported by New Atlas, that riding engaged “more than 10 muscle groups” is not accompanied by a method or independent exercise study. There is no substantiated calorie-burn or fitness-outcome figure to rely on.
Historical price and accessories
New Atlas reported a 2014 price of €449 (US$615), six color options, and optional lighting, a basket and a carry case. Krone attributed a speed of 20 km/h to inventor Andreas Epstein in 2012; that was a reported claim, not an independently measured result. None of these historical figures should be treated as a current price, specification or offer.

Can you buy an Aeyo now?
Current availability has not been verified. A 2024 GiGadgets social post said the Aeyo was not available on Amazon, while a 2023 article said its author did not know whether it was still for sale. Neither settles whether a private seller or non-Amazon source has stock. No current seller, compatible accessories, repair parts or support channel has been verified, so there is no reliable basis here for a purchase recommendation.

The Aeyo combined a skating-style push with a front wheel, handlebar steering and handbrakes. That description distinguishes its basic mechanism, but the available sources do not offer matched tests against other ride types.
