The Acticycle is a French-built electric quadricycle designed to carry two adults without exposing them to the weather. It combines four 20-inch wheels, pedal assistance, a roof and windshield with enough rear storage for practical urban trips. The unusual part is its size and performance: depending on configuration, it can weigh up to 127 kg empty, carry up to 300 kg in total and, in its fastest version, receive electric assistance up to 45 km/h.

Acticycle’s current range is different from some early 2025 reports. The manufacturer now lists two 25-km/h models as available and a 45-km/h model as still under homologation.

What is the Acticycle?

Acticycle is best understood as a weather-protected pedal-assist quadricycle rather than a conventional car or an oversized bicycle. It has two adult seats arranged in tandem, four wheels, front and rear suspension, hydraulic disc brakes and exterior mirrors. A windshield and roof provide protection from rain and wind, while the rear compartment offers approximately 170 liters of storage.

The vehicle is 236 cm long, 92 cm wide and 153 cm high across the current range. Its listed turning diameter is 7 meters. That makes it substantially longer than most bicycles and too large for many cycle-lane layouts, but still narrower and lighter than a normal passenger car. The manufacturer gives a maximum loaded mass of 300 kg.

Pedaling does not necessarily turn the wheels through a conventional bicycle chain. The entry model uses a mechanical drivetrain, while the other two versions use CIXI’s pedal-generator system. In those versions, the rider’s pedaling produces electrical power for the motors rather than directly driving the wheels through a continuous mechanical connection.

Current Acticycle models and prices

The manufacturer’s current selection page lists three configurations. Only the first two are marked as already available.

Model Drive system Output and assistance limit Range Price Availability
ACT 3.1 VAE Valeo Cyclee motor, automatic Effigear gearbox, mechanical chain drive 250 W continuous; 25 km/h 60–80 km €11,900 TTC Available
ACT 3.2 Slope Two Heinzmann RN111 front wheel motors with CIXI generator 250 W continuous; 25 km/h 70–90 km €13,440 TTC Available
ACT 3.6 Rando Two LMX MIC-2000 rear motors, belt-driven, with CIXI generator 4,000 W; 45 km/h 60–80 km €14,440 TTC Under homologation

The prices are French consumer prices including tax, and each model page also lists a deposit: €1,190 for the ACT 3.1, €1,344 for the ACT 3.2 and €1,440 for the ACT 3.6.

These figures correct older coverage that described a 750-W, 45-km/h middle model at €12,900. That is not the current specification shown by Acticycle. The present ACT 3.2 is rated at 250 W and 25 km/h, while the ACT 3.6 is the only 45-km/h model in the current range.

How the three versions differ

ACT 3.1 VAE

The ACT 3.1 is the conventional choice. Its 250-W Valeo Cyclee motor works with an automatic Effigear gearbox and a mechanical chain drive, with a rear differential. It is listed at 109 kg empty, making it the lightest version.

Its 60–80-km claimed range should be adequate for regular commuting and local errands, provided the battery is charged between trips. It is also the only model in the current product table without integrated solar charging.

ACT 3.2 Slope

The ACT 3.2 is aimed more directly at gradients and difficult urban terrain. It uses two Heinzmann RN111 motors at the front, powered through CIXI’s pedal-generator system. Its claimed range rises to 70–90 km, the highest of the three configurations.

The manufacturer lists the same 250-W continuous rating and 25-km/h assistance limit as the ACT 3.1. The important distinction is therefore the motor layout and control concept, not a higher legal or advertised top speed. The ACT 3.2 weighs 115 kg empty and can be ordered with an optional 80-Wc solar-cloth roof charger.

ACT 3.6 Rando

The ACT 3.6 is the performance model. It has two rear LMX MIC-2000 motors rated at 2 kW each, with a stated peak of 2 × 2.5 kW. Acticycle gives the system a 4,000-W rating and 180 Nm of torque, with electric assistance up to 45 km/h.

Unlike the ACT 3.1, it does not use a mechanical rear differential. The rear motors drive through belts. It is also the heaviest version, at 127 kg empty. Its claimed range is 60–80 km, and it can receive the same optional 80-Wc solar-cloth roof charger as the ACT 3.2.

The 45-km/h figure is the reason the Acticycle can approach the speed of a typical urban traffic limit in some European cities. It should not be confused with a universal legal classification: the regulatory consequences depend on the country, vehicle category, road and assistance system. The ACT 3.6 is currently marked “En cours d’homologation,” or under homologation, so its availability should not be treated as confirmed.

Battery, range and practical capacity

Each Acticycle is specified with one removable 48-volt lithium-ion battery. Acticycle says two batteries are possible. Claimed range varies by model, but real-world distance will depend on payload, hills, weather, tire pressure, rider effort and how often the vehicle is operated near its assistance limit.

The 170-liter rear storage area gives the Acticycle a meaningful advantage over a two-seat bicycle. It should make the vehicle useful for shopping, equipment or small deliveries, although the listed 300-kg maximum loaded mass includes the vehicle, occupants, batteries and cargo rather than cargo alone.

The roof-mounted solar option is an 80-Wc charging system, not a replacement for plug-in charging. Its contribution will vary with parking orientation, season, shading and weather. It is best viewed as a way to add some energy during outdoor parking rather than a system that can reliably refill the battery every day.

Dimensions and road-use considerations

At 2.36 meters long, the Acticycle is closer to a very small vehicle than to a standard bicycle in terms of parking and maneuvering. Its 92-cm width may fit through some access points that exclude cars, but owners should measure garages, gates, lifts and storage rooms before ordering. The 7-meter turning diameter also matters in tight courtyards and narrow cycle paths.

The roof, mirrors, suspension and hydraulic disc brakes make it better equipped for mixed-weather commuting than an ordinary cargo bike. Four wheels should also provide a more stable platform when stopped or carrying a passenger. They do not eliminate the need to account for the vehicle’s mass, width and cornering behavior, especially on wet roads or sloped surfaces.

Licensing and legality

Acticycle’s own French FAQ describes different requirements depending on the user’s birth date for a licence-free car: it says people born in 1988 or later need an AM or BSR licence, while those born before January 1, 1988 can drive one without that licence. Those statements are manufacturer-provided French-market guidance, not a substitute for checking the rules where the vehicle will be registered and used.

The 25-km/h versions and the 45-km/h ACT 3.6 should not automatically be treated as legally identical. Speed assistance, power, homologation status, insurance, registration, helmet requirements and permitted roads can all change the applicable category. Acticycle says the vehicle must not be used on motorways or expressways. Buyers outside France should confirm the local classification with the manufacturer, insurer and vehicle authority before paying a deposit.

Who is the Acticycle for?

The strongest use case is a couple, parent and passenger, or small-business operator who wants weather protection and cargo capacity without moving to a full car. The ACT 3.1 should appeal to buyers prioritizing a simpler mechanical drivetrain and the lowest purchase price. The ACT 3.2 is the more specialized choice for hilly routes. The ACT 3.6 is aimed at customers who need higher-speed assistance, but its homologation status makes it a future or market-dependent option rather than a straightforward showroom purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its weaknesses are equally clear: the Acticycle is expensive beside an ordinary e-bike, heavy to move without power and too wide for some bicycle infrastructure. Range claims are generous but conditional, and a two-seat, four-wheel vehicle still needs a secure parking space. At €11,900 before any accessories or delivery costs, the purchase case depends on replacing car journeys rather than simply adding another recreational vehicle.

FAQ

How much does the Acticycle cost?

The current French prices are €11,900 TTC for the ACT 3.1 VAE, €13,440 TTC for the ACT 3.2 Slope and €14,440 TTC for the ACT 3.6 Rando. The first two are marked available; the ACT 3.6 is under homologation.

How fast can the Acticycle go?

The ACT 3.1 and ACT 3.2 are listed with 250 W continuous power and electric assistance up to 25 km/h. The ACT 3.6 is listed at 4,000 W with assistance up to 45 km/h. That 45-km/h model is not yet shown as fully available.

How many people can ride in an Acticycle?

It has two adult seats. The vehicle also includes a roof, windshield and approximately 170 liters of rear storage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Acticycle road legal everywhere?

No single answer applies everywhere. Vehicle category, licensing, registration, insurance, helmet and road-access rules depend on the country and model. Acticycle provides French-market guidance and says the vehicle cannot be used on motorways or expressways, but buyers should verify local rules.

The Bottom Line

The Acticycle is a serious attempt to occupy the space between a cargo e-bike and a tiny car: two seats, weather protection, suspension, disc brakes and useful rear storage in a four-wheeled package. The current range is led by two 25-km/h models priced from €11,900, while the 45-km/h ACT 3.6 remains under homologation. Its practicality is convincing for short urban trips, but its high price, 2.36-meter length and vehicle-specific legal requirements mean it is a replacement for selected car journeys—not a universal car substitute.
