What the AI-THd is—and how it expands
AC Future calls the AI-THd its drivable transformer home, distinguishing it from the AI-THu expandable home unit and AI-THt expandable trailer. The company describes the AI-THd as a vehicle that expands on three sides to nearly twice its compact size, reaching around 400 square feet. The interior is designed to change roles: AC Future says the cockpit can convert into a mobile office or secondary bedroom, with flexible furniture that can be stowed to open up living space. The product page does not provide a detailed floor plan or explain how much usable room remains in each configuration.
What “self-sustaining” means in the company’s description
AC Future lists systems intended to reduce reliance on outside utilities, including solar above 5 kW, atmospheric water generation, water recovery and recycling, filtration, and solar water heating. The feature list does not establish actual energy yield, daily water output, runtime, or how long the AI-THd can remain away from electrical, water, or other hookups. No independent performance test or demonstrated off-grid duration is established by the cited material. “Self-sustaining” should therefore be read as AC Future’s description of the intended systems, not as a verified promise of indefinite independence.

AC Future’s current product page lists EV or diesel engine options. It does not provide a driving range, charging time, fuel economy, emissions figures, or enough detail to establish which configurations are available to order. Availability is less certain than the product page’s reservation call to action might suggest. In a January 14, 2025 announcement, AC Future said initial deliveries were expected in Q4 2026. That was a forecast made at the time, not confirmation that deliveries began or that current buyers can obtain a vehicle on that schedule. At this price and scale, the distinction between a design promise and an operational specification is important. Before treating the AI-THd as a practical home or vehicle purchase, ask AC Future for current, written details on:
- Which powertrain and interior configurations can actually be ordered, and their final prices.
- Dimensions and usable floor area in both travel and expanded modes, plus the time and conditions required to deploy the expansions.
- Measured solar output, battery capacity, water production and storage, and the assumptions behind any off-grid duration claim.
- Driving range or fuel consumption for the chosen powertrain, along with charging, service, and warranty details.
- Current reservation terms, refund conditions, production status, and a delivery estimate tied to a specific order.
AC Future’s page also claims a 2026 CES Innovation Award for Vehicle Technology, 2025 transportation design awards from IDA and Red Dot, and a 2024 Good Design Award for Transportation.
