The manual five-cylinder car to look for is the first-generation TT RS; its price, condition and running-cost exposure matter at least as much as its headline power.
Which Audi TT RS has a manual?
The manual TT RS is the first-generation model, including US-market 2012 and 2013 examples. Cars & Bids identifies those auctioned cars as six-speed manuals, while Audi’s historical UK-market literature confirms that the 2.5 TFSI quattro was offered with a six-speed manual. The same Audi brochure also lists a seven-speed S tronic, so the transmission depends on the car’s configuration. How much does a manual TT RS cost compared with a Miata?

For context, Mazda North American Operations listed the 2026 MX-5 Miata Sport soft-top with a six-speed manual at a $30,430 US MSRP, excluding destination, taxes, title and additional fees. What the five-cylinder Audi offers
Engine, drivetrain and transmission
Audi’s 2011 brochure for 2012 UK-market models describes a 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engine and quattro all-wheel drive. Its standard TT RS is rated at 340 PS; the TT RS plus is rated at 360 PS. Those are manufacturer specifications for the UK-market versions, not a claim that every US-market example has identical equipment or output. Acceleration and usable space
Audi’s 2013 technical manual gives the standard manual coupé a manufacturer-stated 0–62 mph time of 4.5 seconds; its TT RS plus manual coupé figure is 4.3 seconds. The manual lists 290 litres of luggage capacity behind the upright rear seats for the standard coupé specification, and 292 litres for the plus. What the Miata does differently
Mazda’s 2026 US MX-5 Miata uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 181 hp and 151 lb-ft, with a six-speed manual as standard. Sport and Club are manual-only; Grand Touring is also available with an automatic. Mazda describes the car as lightweight and rear-wheel drive. It is a new-car roadster with open-top use, while the TT RS is an older, more powerful all-wheel-drive coupé. Their appeal is not captured by engine output alone. Which one is the better buy?
The TT RS has the stronger case if you specifically want a turbocharged five-cylinder, all-wheel drive and a manual gearbox in a compact coupé, and you find an example whose records and inspection justify its price. A low auction figure alone cannot establish that it is a sound buy.
The Miata is the clearer fit if your priority is a new, open-top, rear-wheel-drive roadster with a published current US MSRP. That MSRP still excludes destination and other charges, and does not tell you what a used Miata costs.

For either car, compare the actual vehicle rather than a headline: year, mileage, condition, title history, modifications and documentation. The available sources do not establish comparative maintenance costs, reliability or repair frequency for these two models, so do not infer that the TT RS will cost the same to own just because an auction price overlaps the Miata’s starting MSRP. Have a qualified inspector assess the specific car and review its service records before committing.
