No available evidence here supports a statistically ranked list of the eight most reliable Toyota hybrids. The strongest model-specific evidence covers four 2025 models: Consumer Reports describes the Prius, RAV4 Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and Camry Hybrid as more reliable than other cars from that model year, but its wording does not establish which is best. The eight vehicles below are therefore candidates to compare—not a reliability ranking—and evidence is thinner for some of them.
What reliability evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Hybrid powertrains have fared well in broad reliability surveys, but category-wide results do not predict how a particular Toyota model or individual used car will hold up. Consumer Reports says hybrids in its latest survey had fewer problems than gas-only cars. Its survey page, indexed in 2026, reports about 380,000 vehicle responses covering 2000–2025 model years and a few early 2026 vehicles. Consumer Reports’ survey summary does not rank all Toyota hybrids against one another.
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study reported 199 problems per 100 vehicles for hybrids. That is a powertrain-wide result, not a Toyota-specific figure, and it should not be combined with Consumer Reports’ survey as if the two studies used one method or measured the same thing. J.D. Power’s 2025 study provides broader context, not a model-level Toyota ranking.
For model-specific comparisons, the available Consumer Reports pages describe four 2025 Toyota hybrids favorably relative to other cars from the same model year. Those descriptions are not directly comparable scores. For the other candidates below, this evidence set does not establish an equivalent model-level reliability assessment.

Eight Toyota hybrid candidates to compare
Toyota’s lineup page identifies Corolla Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and Crown, and also lists the Prius Plug-in Hybrid. The additional SUV candidates below broaden the body-style choices. Check the current lineup and the exact model year and trim in your market; availability and equipment can differ. Toyota’s hybrid lineup is a starting point, not a reliability endorsement.

How to choose among them
Start with body style and passenger needs
Choose the body style that fits the job before trying to distinguish reliability claims that are not directly comparable. A sedan, hatchback, crossover, and larger SUV serve different space and loading needs. Compare the exact vehicles and trims you would actually buy, rather than treating the word “hybrid” as a guarantee that they are interchangeable.

Compare the exact model year
Reliability evidence applies to a particular model year and can change after a redesign or other significant update. The favorable descriptions cited above are specifically for 2025 Prius, RAV4 Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and Camry Hybrid. They should not automatically be applied to earlier or later versions. When considering a used car, seek evidence for that model year and inspect its maintenance and repair history.
Decide whether you want a plug-in
A conventional hybrid does not require charging from an outlet. A plug-in hybrid adds the option of electric driving, but its EPA-estimated range and fuel economy vary by trim and model year. Toyota lists the Prius Plug-in Hybrid at up to 52 mpg combined and up to 44 miles of electric driving range on its lineup page; check the exact configuration rather than assuming those maximums apply to every version.

Balance reliability evidence with cost and use
Compare local purchase prices, trim availability, fuel economy for the exact model year, and the space you need. A favorable relative reliability description does not establish a vehicle’s total ownership cost or guarantee the condition of a particular used example.

Toyota states that hybrid batteries on model year 2020 and later vehicles are covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to the applicable terms. Confirm coverage for the vehicle and review its warranty booklet through Toyota Owners’ manuals and warranties.

Recall status is separate from predicted or survey reliability. A recall count shown on a rating page can change, and it does not tell you whether a recall applies to a particular car or whether required work has been completed. Before buying used, check the VIN through an appropriate recall lookup and ask for repair records. Also have the vehicle’s service and ownership history reviewed; survey-level findings cannot replace a vehicle-specific inspection.
