The Yamaha R125 ranks first in a 2026 UK comparison of five sporty 125cc motorcycles, followed by the Suzuki GSX-R125, Aprilia RS 125, KTM RC 125 and Kawasaki Ninja 125. Treat that as one publication’s editorial order—not a definitive speed test: the available sources do not establish comparable, independently measured top speeds for all five bikes.
How to read this ranking
The list below follows Moto Planet’s 2026 UK comparison. Its order reflects that article’s assessment of each bike’s speed case, not a controlled head-to-head result. Other pages using the same title give different rankings and estimated speeds, with differing model years and methods, so their figures cannot be combined into a reliable comparison. Moto Planet’s comparison, Position Is Everything’s ranking and SlashGear’s overview illustrate that disagreement.
Top speed on a 125cc motorcycle varies with model year and market, rider size and tuck, wind, road gradient, condition and restrictions. A speedometer reading is not necessarily the same as a GPS-measured speed. Unless a source identifies the bike, method and conditions, a precise mph figure would suggest more certainty than the evidence supports.
The five bikes, in the 2026 UK comparison’s order
-
Yamaha R125
Moto Planet ranks the R125 first, describing it as having the strongest speed case in its comparison. The cited material refers to a manufacturer claim and road-test evidence, but does not provide a shared test table covering all five models. That supports reporting the editorial placement, not assigning the R125 a guaranteed top speed. Source: Moto Planet.

-
Suzuki GSX-R125
The GSX-R125 is second in the list. Suzuki’s UK page highlights aerodynamic bodywork and refers to a controlled acceleration test involving 2017 examples of the GSX-R125, Yamaha YZF-R125, KTM RC125 and Honda CBR125R. The page does not provide a comparable top-speed result for the five bikes in this ranking, and an acceleration comparison is not a top-speed test. Ranking; Suzuki’s model page.
-
Aprilia RS 125
Third in Moto Planet’s order, the RS 125 has substantial published specification detail, but that is not proof of a particular top speed. Aprilia describes its 2025 model as a Euro 5+ liquid-cooled, four-valve 125cc single producing up to 15 hp. The same page lists an aluminum frame, radial-mounted front caliper, dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control. These are manufacturer specifications and features, not independent speed-test findings. Ranking; Aprilia’s 2025 product page.
-
KTM RC 125
Moto Planet places the RC 125 fourth and characterizes it as a focused sports option. Its comparison says the bike’s top-speed evidence is less clear than that for the higher-ranked models, so there is no well-supported figure here to use for a direct speed comparison. Source: Moto Planet.
-
Kawasaki Ninja 125
The Ninja 125 is fifth in the same editorial order. Moto Planet emphasizes its Ninja styling and learner-bike appeal; the available comparison material does not give a directly comparable measured top speed. Fifth place should therefore be read as this article’s ranking, not as proof that every Ninja 125 is slower than every bike above it. Source: Moto Planet.

- Zongshen Engine with EFI Technology: HHH GTX 250 is powered by a Zongshen-brand engine and uses electronic fuel injection for better performance and fuel economy with high power output
- Easier Starting System: The EFI system optimizes fuel delivery for ambient conditions, ensuring reliable and easy engine starts, especially in cold weather, without the need for a manual choke
Why other rankings do not settle the order
Position Is Everything’s page with the same title gives a different lineup and order: Aprilia RS 125, Yamaha YZF-R125, KTM 125 Duke, Suzuki GSX-R125 and Honda CBR125R. It supplies approximate ranges, but those estimates differ materially from the ranges discussed by SlashGear. SlashGear also covers mixed generations, including older Aprilia two-strokes and historical RC 125 versions. These are not interchangeable results from one consistent test. Position Is Everything; SlashGear.
Model names alone do not guarantee that two sources are describing the same motorcycle. The distinction is especially clear in Honda’s specifications: the current CB125R page lists 124cc and 11 kW (15 PS), while Honda’s older CBR125R specification lists 124cc, 9.8 kW (13 PS) and 10 N·m. The CB125R is a naked bike, not one of the five in Moto Planet’s list, and its figures should not be substituted for those of the older CBR125R. What matters more than a claimed mph figure
- Match the exact version: Check model year, country-market specification and any restrictions. A familiar model name can cover meaningfully different versions.
- Check how speed was measured: Look for a named source, the test bike and year, GPS or speedometer method, and test conditions. If those details are missing, treat a speed as an estimate rather than a verified result.
- Compare the qualities you will use: Moto Planet’s qualitative distinctions are speed case for Yamaha, value for Suzuki, premium chassis character for Aprilia, focused sports feel for KTM and Ninja styling for Kawasaki. Those are that publication’s assessments, not results from a common performance test. Moto Planet’s comparison.
- Keep power figures in context: Aprilia’s up-to-15-hp specification describes its 2025 RS 125; it does not establish how fast that bike is relative to the other four. Likewise, displacement and output figures from another model or year cannot be used as a substitute for a measured speed comparison. Aprilia RS 125 specifications.
Can a learner-legal 125cc motorcycle do 70 mph?
The available sources do not establish a universal yes-or-no answer for these five models. They do not provide a consistent, independently measured speed test from which to promise that a particular bike will reach 70 mph. A reported or indicated reading may depend on the bike’s version, restrictions, rider and conditions; without those details, a precise claim is not dependable.
