Five 2025 hybrid or plug-in hybrid SUVs have towing figures verified in the cited manufacturer information below. Their ratings are not interchangeable: capacity can depend on the exact powertrain, trim, tow equipment and trailer-brake setup. Use the table as a starting point, then check the owner’s manual and receiver label for the vehicle you plan to tow with.
What are the verified 2025 hybrid SUV towing ratings?
The figures below come from manufacturer sources. “Maximum” does not mean every example of that model can tow that amount; read the qualification in the same row as the number.

How to check whether a hybrid SUV can tow your trailer
- Identify the exact vehicle. Confirm its model year, trim, powertrain and installed options. Do not apply a rating for one version to another: the Grand Highlander Hybrid and Hybrid MAX, for example, have different stated capacities.
- Confirm required tow equipment. For the Escape Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid, Ford ties the cited rating to proper equipment and specifies a Class II tow package for the cited application. Verify package availability and fitment on the vehicle being considered.
- Use the right trailer-brake figure. For the Santa Fe Hybrid, determine whether the trailer has brakes before using the corresponding manufacturer figure. Do not use the braked-trailer rating for a trailer without brakes.
- Weigh the loaded trailer. Compare its loaded weight—not just its empty or advertised weight—with the applicable vehicle rating. Include cargo and equipment added to the trailer.
- Check tongue load and receiver limits separately. A trailer can fall below the vehicle’s maximum trailer-weight rating and still exceed a receiver or tongue-load limit. Check the owner’s manual and the label on the installed receiver, and follow whichever applicable limit is lower.
- Account for people and cargo in the tow vehicle. Ford cautions that towing capability varies with cargo, configuration, accessories, option content and passengers. The applicable vehicle documentation should govern the particular loaded vehicle.
Why this is not a ranked “12 best” list
The verified manufacturer information supports five examples, not twelve, and does not provide a comparable basis for ranking them as “best.” Maximum towing capacity alone is not a complete recommendation: efficiency, passenger and cargo needs, price, equipment, and the intended trailer also matter, and comparable information for those factors is not established here. The models are therefore presented as verified examples, not as a ranking or as the only hybrid SUVs capable of towing.
