If you want a new car that keeps its price relatively low without feeling bare-bones, five 2025 models stand out: the Nissan Versa, Kia Soul, Chevrolet Trax, Nissan Sentra and Kia K4. This is a U.S.-market shortlist, not a strict ranking: the best fit depends on whether you value the lowest entry price, a more agreeable cabin, room, or equipment for the money. Of the five, the Kia Soul has the clearest published praise for an interior that does not feel cheap; the Versa makes the strongest case on entry price and standard equipment.
How these five make the shortlist
“Cheapest” can mean the lowest base MSRP, the price after destination, or the cost of a trim that includes the features you actually want. Those are not interchangeable. MotorTrend’s June 18, 2025 list puts the Versa S automatic at $21,130, the lowest price in its comparison; Nissan’s earlier model-year price announcement lists a different starting figure and destination charge. Cars.com’s value assessment also adjusts for required equipment, which can change how a model compares with a bare-bones base trim.
“Doesn’t feel cheap” is a matter of judgment, not a single specification. This shortlist weighs published comments on cabin impression, space, ride and everyday usability alongside price, fuel economy and included technology. It does not mean every car here has premium materials or a luxury-car ride.
At a glance
| Model | What feels like value | Important tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 Nissan Versa | Low entry point, functional space and standard safety technology | Basic cabin impression and modest performance |
| 2025 Kia Soul | Roomy, distinctive cabin that MotorTrend says does not feel cheap | Modest acceleration; front-wheel drive only |
| 2025 Chevrolet Trax | SUV-like utility, useful cabin room and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, per MotorTrend | Not sporty; fuel economy trails segment leaders |
| 2025 Nissan Sentra | Compact-sedan space and standard equipment that can beat a feature-equipped Versa on value | Tight rear seating and safety ratings MotorTrend characterizes as underwhelming |
| 2025 Kia K4 | Bold design with generous cabin and cargo room | Base engine and driving character do not fully match the styling |
The five affordable 2025 cars worth considering
1. Nissan Versa: the low-price, practical choice
The Versa is the clearest pick if keeping the purchase price down is the priority. In MotorTrend’s June 18, 2025 price snapshot, the automatic Versa S is listed at $21,130 and is the least expensive 2025 model in that article. Nissan’s September 20, 2024 announcement gives a different price context: a $17,190 starting MSRP before the $1,245 destination and handling charge. The figures reflect different publication dates and price presentations, so they should not be treated as competing current dealer quotes.

- All-new tooling. Sleek cockpit includes simulated digital display and front bucket seats.
- Staggered-width rotating Performance Package wheels with detailed tires. Highly detailed one-piece chassis with separately molded disc breaks.

- Molded in red, silver, black, transparent red, and clear, plus authentic soft tires. No glue or paint required.
Nissan’s model-year announcement lists the Versa S Xtronic at $19,190, SV at $20,690 and SR at $21,390, each before the $1,245 destination and handling charge. The announcement also says the manual S, listed at $17,390, was to be discontinued during the model year. Nissan rated Xtronic models at up to 32 mpg city, 40 highway and 35 combined. It highlighted standard safety technology, while MotorTrend describes the car as spacious and functional.
The compromise is refinement: MotorTrend characterizes the Versa as basic, not quick or quiet. It is a sensible inexpensive daily driver, not the pick for a hushed cabin or brisk acceleration.
2. Kia Soul: the clearest “doesn’t feel cheap” cabin
The Soul has the strongest direct support for the premise of this list. MotorTrend says its interior does not feel cheap, and also points to its ample space, distinctive design and pleasant driving dynamics. Its upright shape makes the cabin feel useful and easy to live with, rather than like a stripped-down sedan chosen only for price.
Rank #2
- These highly detailed kits come with everything you need to build them including the screwdriver.
- Opening parts, Rolling Wheels
- Easy assembly, Pre-painted metal body
- When finished the vehicles are fully functional
- Rolling die-cast replica
There are limits: the base engine is modest, especially beside more expensive cars, and the Soul is front-wheel drive only. Cars.com’s 2025 report gives a $22,385 starting price and a $21,687 average trim price for the LX with that report’s LX Technology Package add-on; it estimates annual fuel costs at $1,600. Those are report-specific figures and should not be read as a live offer or a directly comparable trim quote.

The Trax suits shoppers who want a small SUV body and a roomier-feeling cabin without moving into a larger, costlier vehicle. MotorTrend notes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and describes it as a budget-conscious utility choice. Cars.com also identifies it as a value pick among subcompact SUVs.
It is not a sporty choice, and MotorTrend says its fuel economy trails segment leaders. The generation discussed is front-wheel drive only. Cars.com’s 2025 report lists a $22,190 starting price and $22,265 average trim price for an LS with the report’s Driver Confidence Package add-on, plus a $1,600 annual fuel-cost estimate. The report’s package context matters: these are not simply bare-base-trim prices.
Rank #3
- Highly detailed 1:24 scale diecast model kit of 1929 Ford Model A
- Comes with everything needed for assembly including screwdriver
- Features opening parts, rolling wheels and pre-painted metal body
- Easy to assemble, creates fully functional rolling replica model car
- Fun and educational STEM activity for kids to build realistic miniature vehicle
4. Nissan Sentra: a feature-adjusted alternative to a pricier Versa
The Sentra is worth comparing with a Versa once you move beyond the least expensive trim. Cars.com notes that equipment included as standard on the Sentra can make it a better deal than a Versa upgraded to get desired features. MotorTrend says the Sentra looks more upscale than its price suggests, while Cars.com names the Sentra S its compact-car value pick.
Its cabin is not uniformly generous: MotorTrend flags tight rear seating and safety ratings it considers underwhelming. Cars.com’s report lists a $22,730 starting price and a $21,821 average trim price for the 2025 Sentra S, and estimates annual fuel costs at $1,400. The average-trim figure is lower than the stated starting price in the report; both labels are preserved here because the report does not reconcile the difference.

5. Kia K4: style and space with a modest base engine
The K4 replaced Kia’s older Forte and brings bold styling, generous cabin room and useful cargo space, according to MotorTrend. It can feel more substantial than a low-price compact sedan based on its design and interior space, making it an appealing option for shoppers who want a newer-looking alternative to the usual budget-car shape.
Rank #4
- Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Opening doors and engine compartment
- Detailed chassis
- Item package weight: 1.28 pounds
The base engine and driving character do not fully live up to the styling, MotorTrend cautions. The available evidence does not establish an independent price comparison or a specific cabin-material assessment for the K4, so its case here is primarily design and room rather than a verified upscale finish.

A starting MSRP is not the same as the amount you will pay at the dealership or the cost of a car equipped for your needs. Nissan states that its listed Versa prices exclude the $1,245 destination and handling charge, and that the dealer sets the actual price; taxes, title, license and options also affect the total. Cars.com’s affordability framework adds required equipment and considers selected ownership costs, so its value rankings are not simply a sort of base MSRPs.
The model-specific Cars.com figures below retain the report’s stated labels and package context. Annual fuel-cost estimates are the report’s estimates, not a guarantee of an owner’s actual bill.

| 2025 model and report context | Starting price | Average trim price | Estimated annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nissan Versa SV | $21,630 | $21,891 | $1,350 |
| Nissan Sentra S | $22,730 | $21,821 | $1,400 |
| Kia Soul LX with LX Technology Package add-on | $22,385 | $21,687 | $1,600 |
| Chevrolet Trax LS with Driver Confidence Package add-on | $22,190 | $22,265 | $1,600 |
These are Cars.com’s 2025 report figures, not independently verified current dealer offers. The table excludes the K4 because the report figures listed here do not establish a comparable K4 price.
Which one should you choose?
- For the lowest listed entry point: start with the Versa, while checking the trim, destination charge and actual dealer price.
- For the best-supported cabin impression: consider the Soul; it is the one MotorTrend explicitly says does not feel cheap inside.
- For a small-SUV layout: look at the Trax if its utility and standard phone integration matter more than sporty handling or class-leading fuel economy.
- For equipment per dollar: compare the Sentra S with the Versa trim you would actually buy, rather than comparing only the two lowest starting prices.
- For style and passenger/cargo room: consider the K4, with the caveat that its base powertrain is not especially lively.
