Not yet, based on the available U.S. data. A 300-mile rating is close to the recent average for new battery-electric vehicles: the EPA reports an average of 292 miles for model year 2024. Some configurations already exceed 400 miles, but the evidence does not show that 400 miles is becoming the next fleet-wide norm. For now, it is better understood as a high-range tier.
Is 300 miles of EV range the new normal?
It is close to the recent U.S. average, but that is not the same as saying every EV—or even most EVs in every vehicle class—has a 300-mile rating. The EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report, dated February 2026, puts the average range of new battery-electric vehicles at 292 miles for model year 2024. The report says that is nearly four times the average in 2011.
A separate measure shows how the 300-mile threshold has spread across the market. The U.S. Department of Energy counted 19 light-duty EV models from 11 manufacturers with EPA-certified ranges of at least 300 miles in model year 2023. The first EV model to reach that threshold was certified for model year 2016; by model year 2022, the count had reached 14.
These figures use different measures and model years: 292 miles is a fleet average for new BEVs in MY2024, while the DOE count is the number of MY2023 models meeting a threshold. Together, they support saying 300 miles is near the recent average and increasingly available—not that it is a universal minimum.

Is 400 miles the next fleet-wide average?
There is not enough evidence here to say so. The latest fleet average established by the EPA report is 292 miles for MY2024. Official listings show some individual configurations above 400 miles, but they do not establish a 400-mile fleet average, how quickly one might arrive, or a complete count of 400-mile configurations.
The Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center describes typical all-electric vehicle ranges as 150 to 400 miles. That is a broad description, not an average or a forecast. The practical takeaway is that 400 miles is already achievable in certain configurations, but it remains a higher-range choice rather than the demonstrated next norm.

What EVs have more than 400 miles of range?
Official EPA and ENERGY STAR vehicle listings include Lucid Air configurations rated above 400 miles, as well as other Lucid Air configurations below that mark. Range belongs to a particular version of a vehicle, not automatically to every trim carrying the same model name. When comparing listings, check the model year, trim, drivetrain, and wheel configuration; those details can change the rated figure. See the official vehicle listings for configuration-level figures.
The listing also includes estimated charging time at 240 volts for vehicle configurations. That figure concerns charging, not driving range, and should not be confused with how far a car travels on a charge.

Is 300 miles of rated range enough?
For many buyers, 300 miles on the EPA label can be a useful starting point for comparing cars, but it is not a promise that every trip will cover 300 miles between charges. Your usable trip range can be lower or otherwise differ depending on conditions such as cold weather, air-conditioning use, high speed, and aggressive driving. The route and access to charging also matter to trip planning.
For a long drive, compare the likely route and charging opportunities with the range you expect under your conditions, rather than relying on the label as a trip guarantee. A driver who mostly commutes and charges at home may value a different range buffer than someone who regularly takes long highway trips.

How much range do you actually get on the highway?
There is no single highway figure that applies to every EV or journey. EPA range testing uses laboratory city and highway cycles. The agency says adjusted city and highway estimates are combined using a weighting of 55% city and 45% highway to produce the label figure, so the combined EPA rating is not a pure highway estimate.
The EPA explains that testing and adjustments are intended to account for real-world influences including cold, climate-control use, high speeds, and aggressive driving. Its methodology page gives an example using a 0.7 adjustment factor, but that should not be read as the exact method used for every automaker’s label. - Not established by these figures: a MY2025 U.S. fleet average, a complete count of vehicles rated at least 400 miles, or a date by which 400 miles will become an average.
