What’s new for the 2027 Subaru Ascent?
Subaru of America announced the 2027 Ascent on June 11, 2026, and said it would reach retailers in summer 2026. The named trims are Premium, Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring. Seven- and eight-passenger configurations are available. Subaru’s 2027 announcement also describes USB-C ports added alongside USB-A outlets, charging ports near the third row, and a new interior-light-off switch. The Premium includes an 11.6-inch multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
How much does the Subaru Ascent cost?
2027 starting price
Subaru lists the 2027 Ascent starting MSRP at $40,795. The announcement does not give prices for each trim, so the starting figure should not be treated as the price of every configuration or as an out-the-door quote. Dealer pricing, taxes, fees, destination charges, and incentives can affect what a buyer pays.
2026 prices for context
The following are Subaru’s published 2026 model-year prices, announced in 2025—not 2027 prices. MSRP excludes destination and delivery; Subaru listed a $1,450 destination and delivery charge, which may vary in certain states and is $1,600 in Alaska. Use this older table to understand the previous model year’s range, not to estimate a 2027 transaction price. Ask a retailer for a current written quote that identifies the model year, trim, destination charge, dealer fees, and any incentives.
Powertrain, towing, and fuel economy
The 2027 Ascent’s announced powertrain is a 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine rated at 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) with an eight-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard, as are X-MODE and Hill Descent Control. Subaru lists towing capability of up to 5,000 pounds; confirm the specific vehicle’s rating and required equipment before towing, and account for passengers and cargo when calculating a safe load.

Car and Driver recorded 28 mpg in its own real-world highway test of the Ascent. That is one publication’s test result, not an EPA fuel-economy rating, and actual mileage depends on conditions and driving. Car and Driver’s review also describes the powertrain as somewhat noisy under effort.
Seating, third-row space, and cargo
The Ascent is offered with seven seats or eight. The seven-seat configuration uses second-row captain’s chairs; the eight-seat version uses a second-row bench. Subaru’s 2026 model materials state 31.7 inches of third-row legroom and up to 75.6 cubic feet of cargo volume. These are manufacturer figures for the 2026 model; the cited 2027 announcement does not establish changes to those measurements. Subaru also lists 8.7 inches of ground clearance in its 2026 materials.

Numbers do not tell the whole story of passenger comfort. Car and Driver characterizes the third row as tight and better suited to children and pets than adults on longer trips. If adults will regularly sit back there, or you need to fit child seats, bring the intended passengers and seats to a test drive. Check how much cargo space remains with the third row in use, rather than relying only on the maximum volume figure.
Safety and driver-assistance equipment
For the 2027 model, Subaru says standard equipment includes EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with a Wide-Angle Mono Camera and Emergency Stop Assist, as well as Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Automatic Emergency Steering. DriverFocus is included on Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring, and Onyx Edition Touring trims, according to Subaru’s announcement.

Subaru says the 2027 Ascent earned a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ and notes that the model had received IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK recognition for nine consecutive years. Award labels and criteria apply to specific model years and can change; consult the IIHS Ascent results for the applicable rating details rather than treating an award as a substitute for individual crash-test results.

The 2027 announcement names five trims but does not provide a complete feature-by-feature equipment or price comparison. Before choosing one, verify the exact seat layout, comfort and convenience equipment, driver-assistance features, and multimedia details on the vehicle being quoted. The Premium’s 11.6-inch display and wireless phone integration are specifically identified in Subaru’s 2027 announcement; do not assume every other trim has identical equipment.
