2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV vs. Affordable Electric SUVs

The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV starts at $37,745 in the U.S., with a manufacturer-claimed range of up to 282 miles from a 75 kWh battery. On published U.S. figures, the 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 costs $2,750 less and has 37 miles more EPA-estimated range with front-wheel drive. That is a useful starting comparison, not a complete buying verdict: the Mitsubishi is a subcompact SUV, the Chevrolet is a compact SUV, and the available figures do not establish a like-for-like comparison of equipment, cargo space, real-world range, or ownership costs.

How the Eclipse Sportback compares at a glance

Mitsubishi announced the 2027 Eclipse Sportback as a battery-electric subcompact SUV for North American sales. Its headline U.S. price and range put it above the 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1 on price and below it on advertised range, but the two vehicles belong to different size classes. Use the figures below as a first screen; they do not establish which vehicle is the better value for a particular driver.

Published specification 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT1
U.S. starting price $37,745 MSRP, announced by Mitsubishi Motors North America in 2026 $34,995, listed on Chevrolet’s U.S. product page
Range Up to 282 miles, a Mitsubishi-published claim; the cited figure is not identified here as an EPA estimate 319 miles EPA-estimated with front-wheel drive; 307 miles with available all-wheel drive, per Chevrolet’s U.S. product page
Battery 75 kWh lithium-ion, per Mitsubishi’s 2026 announcement Not stated in the cited Chevrolet product-page information
Maximum cargo volume Not stated in the cited Mitsubishi information 57.2 cubic feet, per Chevrolet’s U.S. product page
Vehicle class described by manufacturer Subcompact SUV Compact SUV
Charging information cited J1772 for Level 1 and Level 2; NACS compatibility for DC fast charging; up to 150 kW and approximately 35 minutes from 10% to 80%, all Mitsubishi claims Standard NACS charging port, per Chevrolet’s U.S. product page; the cited information does not establish a directly comparable charging time

The Eclipse Sportback costs $2,750 more at the published starting prices, while the Equinox EV LT1 lists 37 more miles of FWD range. The comparison subtracts the Mitsubishi’s advertised “up to” figure from Chevrolet’s EPA-estimated figure; those labels are not interchangeable test results. Neither headline price is a transaction quote, and neither alone reflects matched equipment, incentives, financing, or operating costs.

What the Eclipse Sportback is—and how it relates to the LEAF

Mitsubishi Motors North America says the Eclipse Sportback is supplied by Nissan on an original-equipment-manufacturer basis and based on the new-generation Nissan LEAF, with exterior changes intended to give it Mitsubishi styling. That lineage is useful context: this is not a wholly unrelated Mitsubishi electric platform. It does not establish that every component, feature, software system, warranty term, or ownership experience is identical to the LEAF.

The announced vehicle is called the Eclipse Sportback. Mitsubishi describes it as an electric subcompact SUV, and it should not be confused with the separate Eclipse Cross, including an electric Eclipse Cross planned for Europe. The name resemblance does not make those models interchangeable.

For a buyer, the Nissan connection is a prompt for specific questions rather than a shortcut to a decision. Confirm the exact trim’s equipment, warranty, service arrangements, and available options in the market where you plan to buy. The manufacturer information cited for the announcement does not supply a complete matched feature list or establish how the Mitsubishi’s final production specification differs from the new-generation LEAF.

U.S. price, options, and the limits of the price comparison

Mitsubishi announced a U.S. starting MSRP of $37,745 for the 2027 Eclipse Sportback. The only optional package specified in the announcement is a $2,600 Technology Package. Adding that package to the starting MSRP gives $40,345 before taxes, fees, or any other applicable charges. The announcement does not, by itself, establish that every buyer will pay the starting price or that the package is the only possible dealer-installed or market-specific charge.

Chevrolet lists the 2027 Equinox EV LT1 from $34,995 on its U.S. product page. The $2,750 gap is the difference between the two published entry prices, not a comparison of equivalent trims. The available information does not show whether the Mitsubishi’s base equipment matches the LT1’s, or how a similarly equipped Equinox would price. Before choosing on price, compare the actual window stickers and written dealer offers for the vehicles you can buy.

Published MSRP is also not the same as out-the-door cost. Taxes, registration, dealer fees, financing, and any incentives can change the amount due. No current transaction-price evidence is established here, so treat the two MSRPs as manufacturer or product-page reference points rather than a prediction of your negotiated price.

Canada has a separate price and launch schedule

Mitsubishi announced a Canadian starting MSRP of CAD $48,998 and a November 2026 launch. Its Canadian release said the vehicle qualified for the federal EV Affordability Program rebate as described at the time. That is not a guaranteed net price: program terms, eligibility, and availability can change, and individual vehicles or buyers may not qualify. Check the current federal program rules and confirm eligibility with the dealer before subtracting any rebate from the advertised Canadian price.

Keep the Canadian figure separate from the U.S. comparison. The currencies and markets differ, and the supplied specifications do not provide a matched Canadian Equinox EV price or an exchange-rate basis for comparing the two MSRPs.

Range: what 282 miles tells you—and what it does not

Mitsubishi lists up to 282 miles of range for the Eclipse Sportback’s 75 kWh battery. That is a manufacturer-published figure, not an independently verified road-test result. The cited announcement does not identify it as an EPA estimate, so it should not be presented as though it were directly measured or certified on the same basis as the Equinox EV’s 319-mile EPA-estimated FWD figure.

Chevrolet lists 319 miles of EPA-estimated range for the 2027 Equinox EV LT1 with front-wheel drive and 307 miles with available all-wheel drive. The drivetrain matters: the 319-mile headline is specifically the FWD value, not an all-wheel-drive figure. Even with that qualification, the listed Chevrolet FWD number is 37 miles above Mitsubishi’s “up to” claim. This is a useful published-spec difference, but not proof of a 37-mile advantage in every driving situation.

Neither number guarantees a driver’s trip distance between charges. The information available here does not establish real-world efficiency or range for either vehicle under matched conditions, including at highway speed, in cold weather, or with a loaded cabin. If your route regularly approaches a vehicle’s stated range, plan around charging access and a reserve rather than assuming the headline number will be available on every journey.

Charging compatibility and home setup

Mitsubishi says the Eclipse Sportback uses SAE J1772 for Level 1 and Level 2 charging and is NACS-compatible for DC fast charging. Mitsubishi also states a peak fast-charging rate of up to 150 kW and an approximate 35-minute charging time from 10% to 80% state of charge. Those are manufacturer claims, not a tested charging curve or a guaranteed stop time across different temperatures, battery conditions, or charging stations. A peak rate is not a promise that the vehicle will hold that rate throughout a charging session.

Chevrolet lists a standard NACS charging port for the 2027 Equinox EV. That identifies the port provision in the cited product information, but does not establish a comparable Equinox charging time or charging curve. Confirm connector and access arrangements for the specific vehicle and the public stations you expect to use; a port standard alone does not tell you whether a particular station is available, compatible, or convenient on your route.

What to consider for charging at home

A J1772 Level 2 home EV charger is a practical option to investigate for the Eclipse Sportback because Mitsubishi identifies J1772 Level 2 charging support. The announcement does not say that a home charger is included. Before purchasing equipment or arranging installation, check the vehicle’s final specifications, the charger’s connector and electrical requirements, your home’s electrical capacity, and the installation needs at the intended location. An electrician can assess circuit capacity and installation requirements; do not assume an existing outlet or panel is suitable without checking.

Level 1 charging is also identified as supported, but the announcement supplies no charging-time estimate for it. Choose a home setup based on your daily driving, parking arrangements, available electrical service, and how much charging time you can leave the vehicle plugged in—not on the fast-charging peak figure alone.

Size, cargo, equipment, and warranty: what remains to compare

The class distinction is meaningful even though the available evidence does not provide a complete set of dimensions. Mitsubishi calls the Eclipse Sportback a subcompact SUV; Chevrolet describes the Equinox EV as a compact SUV. A larger class may suit buyers who need more passenger or cargo room, while someone prioritizing a smaller vehicle may prefer to assess the Mitsubishi’s actual footprint. Class labels cannot substitute for checking measurements and trying the seating and cargo area in person.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Chevrolet lists 57.2 cubic feet of maximum cargo volume for the Equinox EV. No corresponding Eclipse Sportback cargo-volume figure is established in the cited Mitsubishi information, so there is no evidence-based cargo-volume comparison to calculate. The maximum figure also does not tell you how much room is available with the rear seats in use or whether a particular stroller, suitcase, or other bulky item fits. Bring your usual cargo or measure it against the production vehicle before purchase if capacity is decisive.

The available specifications do not establish a matched comparison of standard driver assistance, infotainment, comfort features, safety equipment, or warranty coverage. Do not infer those details from the Nissan platform relationship or from the vehicles’ entry prices. Compare the final model-year equipment lists and warranty documents for the exact trims sold in your market; a package name or a broad vehicle description is not a substitute for checking what is included.

How to decide whether it fits your needs

  1. Set the market and budget. Compare U.S. prices with U.S. prices, or Canadian prices with Canadian prices. Use the relevant currency and check the current incentive rules instead of assuming a rebate applies to your purchase.
  2. Compare the exact versions. Put the Eclipse Sportback’s $37,745 U.S. starting MSRP and optional $2,600 Technology Package beside a specific Equinox EV trim and its actual equipment list. Get written, itemized dealer quotes to understand fees and the price you would pay.
  3. Check which range figure answers your question. Treat Mitsubishi’s up-to-282-mile claim as a manufacturer figure and Chevrolet’s 319-mile FWD and 307-mile AWD values as EPA estimates. Consider how your typical routes, climate, and charging options affect your own usable range.
  4. Inspect the space you need. Compare the vehicles in person and verify passenger and cargo room with your usual occupants and belongings. The Equinox’s published maximum is 57.2 cubic feet; a matching Eclipse Sportback cargo figure is not established in the cited information.
  5. Map your charging routine. Check home electrical capacity and installation needs if you want Level 2 charging, then verify public DC fast-charging access for routes you actually use. For the Mitsubishi, take its NACS-compatible fast-charging claim and stated charging time as manufacturer specifications, not guaranteed session results.
  6. Resolve the unanswered purchase details. Ask the dealer for the production vehicle’s final equipment, warranty, delivery timing, and any applicable incentives in writing. These items are not fully resolved by the headline announcements and figures.

What the published comparison can—and cannot—settle

The publicized numbers make the Equinox EV LT1 the lower-priced and longer-range entry point on the cited U.S. figures, while the Eclipse Sportback is presented as a subcompact model with a 75 kWh battery and Mitsubishi-stated range of up to 282 miles. That observation does not establish better value: the available comparison is not matched for vehicle size, test method, equipment, or transaction price.

Independent road-test results, real-world efficiency, production-car interior and cargo usability, reliability, and owner experience are not established by the cited manufacturer and product-page information. A buyer who needs those answers should seek current production specifications and independent evaluations before treating the launch figures as a complete assessment.
