The 2027 Honda Civic Type R gets a focused refresh rather than a new powertrain: a redesigned nose, revised driving-mode and brake calibrations, heated front seats, upgraded cabin trim, added connected features and updates to Honda Sensing. Honda still lists a 315-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and six-speed manual. Its claimed cooling, aerodynamic and driving benefits have not been independently measured in the available information.
What changed on the 2027 Civic Type R?
Honda’s October 1, 2026 announcement describes updates across the exterior, chassis tuning, cabin and safety equipment. The core engine and manual transmission carry over in Honda’s published specifications.

Revised front end and driving controls
The front fascia has a larger grille opening and a deeper splitter. Honda says the airflow changes reduce turbulence and improve engine cooling, while the splitter adds downforce for sustained track driving. Those are manufacturer claims; Honda’s announcement does not provide independent aerodynamic, temperature, lap-time or braking measurements.
Honda also lists optimized suspension damping in +R mode, intended to help the car follow the road while reducing bouncing and impact harshness. The brake pedal is described as more direct-feeling, and the Rev Match system is updated for faster engine response on downshifts. These are calibration changes, not evidence of shorter stopping distances or quicker lap times.

Meteorite Gray Metallic joins the listed colors, alongside Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and Championship White.
What is new inside—and does it have heated seats?
Yes. The front sport seats gain heating and a revised perforation pattern. Honda also adds Ultrasuede to the instrument panel and upper front door panels; the company says the dashboard material helps reduce glare and reflections.

Other changes include diamond-pattern mesh dashboard trim, black climate and vent knobs, darker gray console trim and shift knob, and silver trim on the front door panels. Together, these changes give the cabin a more finished appearance while adding a practical cold-weather comfort feature.

What technology and safety features are included?
Honda lists Google built-in, including Gemini, Google Maps and Google Play, as well as Alexa built-in. Two USB-C ports sit above the wireless phone charger, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror is included. Availability and operation of connected features can depend on region and connected services; Honda’s announcement does not establish that every function is unconditional.

Honda Sensing remains standard, with changes Honda describes for 2027:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System updates intended to improve motorcycle and bicycle visibility.
- Revised Adaptive Cruise Control braking and acceleration response.
- Lane Keeping Assist adjustments for road camber and other disturbances.
- Post-collision braking listed as standard equipment.

Is the 2027 Civic Type R still manual, and how much power does it make?
Yes. Honda specifies a six-speed manual transmission with Rev-Match Control, a lightweight single-mass flywheel and a helical limited-slip differential. The engine remains a 1,996 cc turbocharged inline-four, rated by Honda at 315 hp at 6,500 rpm and 310 lb-ft from 2,600 to 4,000 rpm, with a 7,000-rpm redline.
Honda calls it “the most powerful Honda production vehicle ever sold in the U.S.” That is the company’s characterization. The published figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

How much does the 2027 Civic Type R cost?
For the U.S. market, American Honda lists one Civic Type R trim at $48,695 MSRP and $49,990 total suggested retail price. The announcement also reports EPA estimates of 22 mpg city, 28 highway and 24 combined. These are official listed figures, not dealer transaction prices; local charges and actual selling prices are not established by the announcement.
Honda specifies regular unleaded fuel, with premium recommended, and a 12.4-gallon fuel tank. Real-world fuel economy and running costs are not established by the published rating.
What the refresh does—and does not—tell us
The update makes the Type R more accommodating for everyday use with heated seats and adds newer cabin and connectivity features, while refining controls and the front-end design. Honda says the revised airflow, splitter and chassis calibrations support track performance, but its announcement does not establish a measured performance gain. The specifications also make clear that the familiar 315-hp turbo engine and six-speed manual remain central to the car.
