Chevrolet announced the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and the new Grand Sport X on March 26, 2026. Both use a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 rated at 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. The key difference is the drivetrain: Grand Sport is rear-wheel drive, while Grand Sport X adds a front electric drive unit for all-wheel drive.
Two Grand Sport models, two drivetrains
Chevrolet positions the returning Grand Sport as a V8-powered Corvette focused on performance, distinctive styling and everyday drivability. The Grand Sport X takes the same basic formula in a more complex direction, pairing the V8 with front-axle electric drive. Chevrolet describes it as the hybrid all-wheel-drive version.

The engine figures are Chevrolet specifications, not independent measurements. Chevrolet’s current Grand Sport X page marks its combined-output and acceleration figures with asterisks and provides qualifications alongside them. They are manufacturer claims, not independently tested results. Chevrolet’s March 26 announcement initially listed Grand Sport X performance as “To be announced at a later date”; its current product page now supplies the headline figures above. Chevrolet’s current Grand Sport X page is the source for those claims and their footnotes.
What the new LS6 V8 brings
The naturally aspirated LS6 displaces 6.7 liters, or 409 cubic inches, and has a 13.0:1 compression ratio. Chevrolet lists maximum engine speed at 6,600 rpm. GM News specifies peak output as 535 hp at 6,100 rpm and 520 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. Chevrolet’s announcement and GM News’ LS6 technical article provide the engine specifications.

Chevrolet says the engine uses a 95-mm throttle body, a tunnel-ram intake with high-velocity ports, forged pistons and rods, and a performance-focused lubrication system. The company’s assistant chief engineer for the Small Block, Mike Kociba, said the goal was “a wide, high torque band, and high power.”
How Grand Sport X’s electric drive changes the package
Grand Sport X adds a front electric drive unit rated at 186 hp and 145 lb-ft, plus a 1.9-kWh battery, according to Chevrolet’s current product information. That front-axle drive is the principal distinction Chevrolet identifies between the two models: Grand Sport remains rear-drive, while Grand Sport X can send drive to all four wheels through its hybrid system.

The listed electric-unit output is separate from the V8’s 535 hp and 520 lb-ft. Do not add the peak figures together as though they establish combined system output; Chevrolet’s current page gives a distinct combined claim of 721 hp. The cited information does not provide a comparable combined torque figure.
A brief return for a name rooted in Corvette history
Chevrolet traces the Grand Sport name to five C2 race cars built in the early 1960s, which competed at circuits including Sebring. The 2027 announcement brings the name back as a production Corvette model and introduces Grand Sport X as a new variant.
