In the United States, its $10,999 starting MSRP is $4,200 below the 2026 Honda Africa Twin’s $15,199 base MSRP. That is a starting-price gap—not an out-the-door comparison—and the bikes differ in engine size, tank capacity, transmission choices and available trims.
Which Yamaha adventure bike is like the Africa Twin?
It is the 2026 Yamaha Ténéré 700, a middleweight adventure motorcycle with a 689cc parallel-twin engine. The standard 2026 Honda Africa Twin has a larger 1,084cc parallel twin. Both standard models use 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, but similar wheel dimensions do not establish equal performance or off-road ability.
The useful comparison is between a lower-priced, smaller-displacement Yamaha and a larger Honda offered with a choice of manual or dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The manufacturer specifications and model pages describe the bikes; they do not provide comparative testing that would establish which rides better or performs better.
Is the Ténéré 700 cheaper than the Africa Twin?
For 2026 U.S. models, Yamaha lists the Ténéré 700 at $10,999 MSRP plus a $675 destination charge. Honda lists the standard Africa Twin at $15,199 MSRP plus a $775 destination charge. The base MSRP difference is $4,200 before destination charges. These figures are manufacturer-listed prices, not dealer quotes or final purchase totals; dealer pricing, freight and setup fees, taxes, incentives and trim selection can change the amount paid. See Yamaha’s 2026 Ténéré 700 U.S. model page and Honda’s 2026 Africa Twin U.S. model page.

Specifications are manufacturer-reported. Yamaha’s wet-weight figure and Honda’s curb-weight figure use differently labeled measures, so the numbers should not be treated as a perfectly matched weight test. Africa Twin figures also vary by trim. The full specifications are available from Yamaha and American Honda.
What the price gap buys—and what it does not establish
Engine and transmission
The Ténéré 700 pairs its 689cc engine with a six-speed manual transmission. The Africa Twin’s 1,084cc engine is available with a six-speed manual or DCT, depending on the version. Riders who want an automatic-style transmission have a Honda option; Yamaha’s listed configuration is manual. Displacement and transmission choices are concrete differences, but they do not by themselves establish comparative acceleration, comfort or capability.

Fuel capacity and touring setup
The Ténéré’s listed tank holds 4.2 gallons. Honda lists 5.0 gallons for standard Africa Twin versions and 6.6 gallons for Adventure Sports ES versions. Tank capacity alone does not determine riding range: Yamaha does not list a fuel-economy estimate on its 2026 specifications page, and real-world consumption varies with conditions. Choose based on the routes and refueling intervals you expect, rather than treating capacity as a range guarantee.
Wheels, suspension and controls
Yamaha lists 21/18-inch spoked wheels, adjustable suspension, two throttle maps, switchable traction control and three-mode ABS, including front-only and off settings. Its feature page also describes a 6.3-inch TFT display, Y-Connect smartphone functionality and navigation through the app. These are manufacturer-described features, not an independent assessment of how well they work.

The standard Africa Twin uses a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tire setup. Adventure Sports models instead use a 19-inch front wheel and differ in tank and suspension configuration; the Adventure Sports ES versions have electronic suspension. Honda states that the standard model has a six-axis IMU package, while features depend on trim. A complete matched-trim equipment audit is needed before concluding that one model is better equipped overall.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Ténéré 700 big enough for touring?
Specifications alone cannot answer that for every rider. The Ténéré’s 4.2-gallon tank, manual-only configuration and 34.4-inch listed seat height are relevant to planning, but touring suitability depends on daily mileage, passenger and luggage needs, preferred refueling intervals, seat fit and the roads you ride. Compare the exact Africa Twin version as well, especially if its larger standard or Adventure Sports ES tank, DCT option or different seat and suspension setup matters to you. A test ride is the practical way to assess ergonomics.

What should you check before choosing?
- Compare actual purchase quotes: Include the exact trim, destination, dealer fees, taxes and any applicable incentives rather than relying on MSRP alone.
- Match the bike to your routes: Consider the balance of pavement, unpaved roads, passenger travel and luggage you expect.
- Decide on transmission: The Ténéré 700 is listed with a manual; the Africa Twin has manual and DCT versions.
- Check fit in person: Seat-height figures are a starting point, not a substitute for checking how the motorcycle fits you.
- Price accessories separately: Yamaha’s configurator lists options such as heated grips, soft side bags, a quick shifter, engine protection, seat choices and luggage. Confirm current availability and fitment for the exact year and version before buying.
