The camouflage-covered 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc seen in spy shots has since been officially revealed: Volkswagen unveiled the second-generation compact SUV in 2025. The new model moves to the MQB evo platform, grows 122 mm in length and launches with 48 V mild-hybrid petrol engines. Volkswagen has also announced a full hybrid for the T-Roc, with an introduction planned for Q4 2026; that schedule does not confirm availability in every market.
When will the new Volkswagen T-Roc come out?
Volkswagen revealed the second-generation T-Roc in 2025, so the model is no longer only a spy-shot preview. Its global unveiling does not establish the retail launch date, trim range or inventory for every country. For local availability and pricing, check your national Volkswagen website or a local dealer.
What is new on the 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc?
Updated design and a larger body
Volkswagen describes the exterior as a new interpretation of the previous T-Roc’s identity. The redesign includes revised front and rear styling, illuminated Volkswagen logos, IQ.LIGHT matrix headlights and 3D LED rear light clusters. Volkswagen says the new model is a five-seater.
Volkswagen Newsroom reported in 2025 that the new T-Roc is 122 mm longer than its predecessor. The company says the increase makes it appear half a class larger and creates more interior space. It also reports a drag coefficient of 0.29, which it says is 10% lower than the previous model and among the best values for a compact SUV. MQB evo platform

Is the new T-Roc a hybrid?
Yes, but the announced versions use different types of hybrid system. The launch engines are 48 V mild hybrids; Volkswagen later announced a separate full-hybrid system for the T-Roc. A mild hybrid is not a plug-in hybrid: the 1.5 eTSI system recuperates energy and stores it in a lithium-ion battery, and it is not described as a system that drivers charge from an external plug.

Volkswagen Group said the full hybrid would be introduced in the Golf and T-Roc from Q4 2026. That is the company’s announced schedule, not confirmation of retail stock in a particular country or proof that timing has not changed. Volkswagen Group’s full-hybrid announcement
How much bigger is the next-generation T-Roc?
Volkswagen’s published figure is 122 mm more exterior length than the outgoing generation. The company says that added length creates more interior space, but the cited announcement does not provide a specific cabin or cargo-volume increase. Buyers comparing generations should check the detailed dimensions and boot capacity listed for their market and trim rather than infer a precise gain from overall length alone.

What is known about the planned engine range?
Volkswagen’s 2025 media-drive announcement described six eventual engine versions: four front-wheel-drive and two all-wheel-drive variants, all with automatic gearboxes. It listed two full-hybrid outputs, 100 kW (136 PS) and 125 kW (170 PS), and initially described the 2.0 eTSI 4MOTION at 150 kW (204 PS). Volkswagen also said a higher-performance T-Roc R 4MOTION was planned for later.
These figures describe the company’s announced product plan, not a guaranteed current line-up in every market. Engine availability, output, equipment and timing can vary or change; consult the current national Volkswagen specification page before treating any version as orderable.

What should buyers check locally?
- Availability and delivery timing: the global reveal and announced powertrain schedule do not establish when a specific market will receive cars.
- Trim and equipment: the announced design features do not establish which items are standard or optional on each local trim.
- Powertrain details: check whether the mild-hybrid or full-hybrid version is offered, its output, and whether it is front-wheel drive or 4MOTION.
- Price and dimensions: compare local pricing and published cabin and cargo measurements with the outgoing model and any alternatives you are considering.
