The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is no longer a leak: Toyota revealed the sixth-generation SUV on May 20, 2025, and published fuller U.S. lineup details that October. Toyota calls it a full redesign, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid options in the U.S. But Toyota has not said the RAV4 follows the Camry’s design or strategy, so that comparison needs to be judged against specific features—not treated as a confirmed plan.
What’s new on the 2026 RAV4?
Toyota describes the sixth-generation model as a full redesign on its TNGA-K unibody platform. The company says it revised structural joints and suspension mounting points, along with other structural and suspension changes intended to improve handling and ride comfort. Those are Toyota’s stated goals, not independent road-test findings. Toyota’s overview of the 2026 RAV4 calls it “a full redesign for its sixth generation.”
The U.S. announcement groups the lineup into three design families: core, rugged, and sport. Woodland is part of the rugged direction, while the 2026 model marks the first U.S. RAV4 GR SPORT. Toyota says the U.S. model adds a digital gauge cluster, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, and the latest generation of Toyota Audio Multimedia. The company also says Arene software development technology makes its debut in the RAV4. Woodland equipment
Toyota identifies all-terrain tires, a tow hitch receiver, and Woodland-branded all-weather floor and cargo mats among Woodland equipment. Equipment varies by grade, so check the specification for the exact vehicle rather than assuming these items are included across the RAV4 lineup. If you are shopping for replacement mats, confirm model-year and trim compatibility before ordering.

Is the 2026 RAV4 hybrid-only?
No—not in the U.S. lineup Toyota announced. It includes both hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) versions. Toyota identifies a fifth-generation hybrid system and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for the U.S. HEV description; do not apply those details automatically to the PHEV, whose specifications are distinct. Powertrain availability outside the United States can differ.
Which 2026 RAV4 trims have all-wheel drive?
Toyota’s U.S. lineup announcement says HEV and PHEV models are offered with front- or all-wheel drive depending on grade. That means there is no single drivetrain answer for the entire model range: check the specific grade, powertrain, and market on the vehicle’s listing or official specification sheet before comparing prices or placing an order.

It is a headline comparison, not a strategy Toyota has confirmed. Toyota’s RAV4 announcements describe the SUV’s own redesign, powertrains, design families, and technology; they do not say that the RAV4 follows the Camry’s styling, platform, or product plan.
A useful comparison must name the dimension being compared. For example, a styling claim needs evidence from the vehicles’ actual exterior or interior design; a powertrain claim needs matching market-specific specifications; and a technology claim needs details about the equipment and how it works. The RAV4 information alone cannot establish a direct Camry-to-RAV4 comparison.

What to check before choosing one
- Market: Confirm that the specifications are for the country where you will buy the vehicle; the lineup described here is Toyota’s U.S. announcement.
- Powertrain and drive: Compare HEV and PHEV versions separately, then verify whether the grade you want is front- or all-wheel drive.
- Design family and equipment: Match the grade to the core, rugged, or sport direction and check which features are actually included.
- Digital Key: Toyota says Digital Key requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription and a compatible ultrawide-band device. Check Toyota’s current terms and device requirements before relying on the feature.
- Local availability and price: Toyota’s announcements do not establish current dealer inventory or final local pricing; confirm both with a dealer or current local listing.
Toyota says more than 6.4 million RAV4 models had reached U.S. roads since the model arrived there in 1996, and describes it as America’s best-selling small SUV. Those are Toyota’s characterizations in its 2025 U.S. announcement, not independently verified rankings here.
