Nissan Australia has added a five-seat, front-wheel-drive X-Trail ST-L e-POWER at a $45,990 manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), excluding on-road costs. CarExpert reports that this matches the Toyota RAV4 GX FWD’s base price, and that Nissan does not plan to offer a cheaper ST e-POWER grade. One important date distinction: Nissan calls the new 2WD e-POWER grades 2026 additions, while CarExpert’s headline frames the story as 2027.
What is the new base X-Trail hybrid, and what does it cost?
The new entry point for the Australian X-Trail e-POWER range is the five-seat ST-L 2WD e-POWER. Nissan Australia lists it at $45,990 MSRP, excluding statutory charges and other on-road costs. That is a list price, not a drive-away price; the total payable will depend on applicable charges and the dealer’s quote.

Nissan’s 30 September 2026 announcement describes front-wheel-drive ST-L, Ti and Ti-L e-POWER grades as additions to the 2026 range. CarExpert’s article headline calls the vehicle a 2027 X-Trail. Those references are not interchangeable: the manufacturer’s announcement uses 2026 language, so buyers should check the model year and build or delivery details on an actual vehicle offer.

CarExpert reports that the $45,990 X-Trail ST-L 2WD e-POWER matches the Toyota RAV4 GX FWD’s base price. This is a comparison of stated base prices; the Nissan figure is explicitly an MSRP before on-road costs, so shoppers should confirm both vehicles’ prices on the same basis before comparing final costs.

Why isn’t Nissan adding a cheaper ST e-POWER?
CarExpert reports that Nissan Oceania managing director Steve Milette was asked about expanding the hybrid range downwards with an ST grade. His answer was: “It does not exist anywhere in the world.” That is the explanation given in the interview; it does not mean Nissan has ruled out every future change to the Australian range.
CarExpert also reports that the Japanese-market X-Trail e-POWER starts with an X grade whose equipment is closer to Australia’s ST-L e-POWER than to Australia’s petrol ST. This helps explain why the local hybrid line-up does not simply mirror the petrol range with a base-equipment ST hybrid, but the comparison is CarExpert’s reporting, not a specification claim in Nissan’s announcement.

What does the 2WD e-POWER system offer?
Nissan describes e-POWER as a system where an electric motor drives the wheels, while a petrol engine generates electricity. The new ST-L 2WD e-POWER is front-wheel drive and has five seats. It is not the only new X-Trail grade in the announcement: Rock Creek is a separate petrol 4WD model with seven seats, not a lower-priced hybrid alternative.
For the 2WD e-POWER, Nissan quotes combined fuel consumption of 5.4L/100km and combined CO2 emissions of 123g/km, tested under ADR81/02. Nissan cautions that real-world consumption and emissions vary with conditions, vehicle condition, driving and accessories.

Is the reported drive-away offer still available?
CarExpert reported a $45,990 drive-away offer plus a $1,000 fuel card for purchases before 30 October 2026 and delivery by 30 November 2026. Nissan’s announcement confirms the $45,990 MSRP but does not confirm those promotional terms. The reported offer is time-limited and should not be assumed to remain available; ask a dealer to confirm eligibility, delivery timing and what is included in writing.

What to check before comparing quotes
- Compare MSRP with MSRP or drive-away with drive-away; do not treat a pre-cost list price as the final payable amount.
- Check drivetrain and grade: the new ST-L e-POWER is 2WD, while the existing ST-L e-POWER AWD is a different configuration.
- Confirm seat count and equipment on the exact vehicle being quoted; the new ST-L 2WD e-POWER is five-seat.
- Verify the advertised model year, offer dates and delivery conditions with the seller, particularly where a listing uses 2027 while Nissan’s announcement calls the additions 2026.
