For U.S. model year 2026, the highest published highway ratings among the hybrids with directly attributable figures here are the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue at 58 mpg and Hyundai Sonata Blue Hybrid at 56 mpg. These are trim-specific ratings—not guarantees of what a driver will get on a road trip. The available official figures support a useful six-car shortlist, not a defensible ranking of ten models.
2026 hybrid highway MPG: verified model and trim figures
The table compares published highway figures for the exact trims shown. Five figures are listed as ratings by the manufacturers; Toyota describes the Corolla Hybrid figure as a manufacturer estimate. Check the actual vehicle’s window sticker and current manufacturer specifications before comparing or buying, since equipment and drivetrain can change ratings.
| 2026 model and trim | Published highway MPG | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue | 58 | Hyundai lists 51 city / 58 highway / 54 combined mpg. Hyundai model information. |
| Hyundai Sonata Blue Hybrid | 56 | Hyundai lists 47 city / 56 highway / 51 combined mpg. Hyundai model information. |
| Toyota Camry LE Hybrid | 50 | Toyota lists 53 city / 50 highway / 51 combined mpg for this trim; other trims and drivetrains differ. Toyota Camry comparison. |
| Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid | 47 | Honda lists 50 city / 47 highway / 49 combined mpg. Honda hybrid lineup. |
| Toyota Corolla Hybrid | Up to 46 | Toyota’s 2026 release gives manufacturer-estimated figures of up to 53 city / 46 highway / 50 combined mpg. Toyota’s July 24, 2025 release. |
| Honda Accord EX-L Hybrid | 44 | Honda lists 51 city / 44 highway / 48 combined mpg. Honda’s December 18, 2025 pricing and ratings release. |
These numbers are useful for comparing vehicles because EPA ratings are produced under consistent conditions, but the U.S. Department of Energy and EPA caution that they “may not accurately predict the fuel economy you will get.” Fuel Economy Guide 2026. They are not promises of individual highway results.
How to choose among these highway hybrids
Start with the exact trim and drivetrain
A model name alone is not enough. The Camry figure above is for the LE Hybrid, and Honda’s Accord ratings vary by trim: the EX-L Hybrid is listed at 44 mpg highway, while the Sport, Sport-L, and Touring hybrids are listed at 41 mpg. Confirm the trim and whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive where both are offered; do not assume the most efficient figure applies to every version.

Also compare the price and equipment of the specific trim you would actually buy. A model’s best highway figure may belong to a particular configuration, and the most economical rating is only one part of the purchase decision. Manufacturer specifications and current dealer listings are the places to verify price, availability, and included features.
Match the car to the people and cargo you carry
These choices include compact sedans and hatchback-style sedans as well as larger midsize sedans. Think through rear-seat space, luggage capacity, and how often you carry passengers before treating a few MPG of difference as decisive. The table is an efficiency comparison, not a measurement of passenger or cargo room.

Consider your actual highway route
Long-distance driving is not a single test condition. Sustained high speeds, hills, cold or hot weather, tire choice, accessories, and the vehicle’s condition can all affect fuel economy. The DOE and EPA note that heating, air conditioning, and entertainment systems can lower fuel economy more for hybrids and electric vehicles than for conventional vehicles. Fuel Economy Guide 2026.

EPA label ratings provide a standardized basis for comparing vehicles, not a forecast tailored to your speed, route, weather, load, or driving habits. Hybrid regenerative braking can recapture some energy when slowing down, but that does not make steady high-speed highway travel equivalent to stop-and-go urban driving.

- LONG-LASTING PROTECTION: Ceramic wax polymers form a durable shield for your paint, protecting against UV rays, dirt and road contamintants, keeping your car cleaner for longer in between washes
- ULTIMATE SHINE: Enhances the appearance of your car's paint, boosting color depth and clarity while delivering a high-gloss, mirror-like finish
- EXTREME WATER REPELLENCY: This spray wax creates a slick surface that repels water instantly, allowing it to bead and roll off, reducing drying time and preventing unsightly water spots
- EASY APPLICATION: Spray onto a clean, dry car and buff with a microfiber cloth. For best results, remove contaminants with a clay bar or polish prior to application. Can be applied in direct sunlight
- SAFE FOR MULTIPLE SURFACES: Can be used on all exterior surfaces including glass, headlights, trim and wheels. Not recommended for soft-sided convertible tops
Keep label figures separate from other fuel-economy statistics. The EPA’s 2025 Automotive Trends Report, published in February 2026, distinguishes its calculated real-world fuel-economy measures from the fuel-economy labels shown when vehicles are sold. Those report figures are not interchangeable with the trim-specific highway label ratings above. EPA Automotive Trends.
