Honda lists 8.3 inches of unladen ground clearance, 23-degree approach and 23.1-degree departure angles for TrailSport, and a 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity. Those are published specifications—not a guarantee that a particular trail or load is suitable.
What’s new on the 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport?
Honda describes the 2026 Passport as a complete redesign, with a more upright front end, flared fenders, a steel tailgate and a rear roof and cargo area styled after a backpack. Honda says it shortened the front overhang and increased ground clearance compared with the preceding design to support off-road geometry. The model was designed and developed in the United States, with design work at Honda’s Los Angeles studio. These are manufacturer descriptions, not findings from an independent road or off-road test. Honda’s launch announcement outlines the redesign.
The U.S. range includes RTL, TrailSport and, for the first time, TrailSport Elite, plus factory option variants such as Blackout editions. Honda says every trim has all-wheel drive.
How do TrailSport and TrailSport Elite differ?
TrailSport is the more direct choice if trail hardware is the priority. TrailSport Elite adds visibility technology and more comfort and audio equipment. Honda’s trim guide is the reference for exact equipment and option details.

Launch prices and EPA ratings are from American Honda Motor Co.’s February 11, 2025 announcement for the 2026 model. The listed MSRPs exclude a $1,450 destination charge, tax, license, registration, options and premium colors; dealer prices may vary. They are not current dealer quotes. What engine, AWD system and towing capacity does it have?
All 2026 Passports use a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 285 horsepower, a 10-speed automatic transmission and Honda’s second-generation i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD system. Honda lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. The seven drive modes are Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Trail, Sand and Tow. These are Honda specifications; towing suitability depends on the vehicle’s configuration, load and operating conditions, so follow the owner’s manual and applicable towing guidance.

Honda also says Trail Info is standard throughout the range, hill descent control helps regulate speed on descents, and its free Honda Trail Experience app integrates with TrailSport through Apple CarPlay. What do the TrailSport clearance and approach figures mean?
Honda lists 8.3 inches of unladen ground clearance across the 2026 Passport trims. For TrailSport, it lists a 23.0-degree approach angle and a 23.1-degree departure angle. These figures help describe the vehicle’s dimensions, but they do not establish that a trail is passable or safe. Terrain, weather, vehicle loading, tires and driver skill all affect what a vehicle can negotiate.

How capable is TrailSport’s off-road equipment?
The TrailSport’s hardware is aimed at protection, traction and recovery: its all-terrain tires, off-road-tuned suspension, engine and fuel-tank skid plates, and front and rear recovery hooks are standard according to Honda’s trim guide. The integrated Class III hitch has a 7-pin connector. Equipment can help prepare a vehicle for rougher use, but it does not replace route planning or judgment about conditions.

Honda describes seating for five adults, a modular cargo area and underfloor storage. Optional accessories named by Honda include a full-size spare tire kit, front scuff plate, roof platform, HPD rock sliders and cargo accessories. A stowable cargo shelf can convert into a picnic table, according to Honda’s launch announcement.

Honda describes its hardened-steel HPD rock sliders as helping protect against high-centering and damage from ledge drops. They are an optional accessory, not standard TrailSport equipment. Confirm model-year and trim fitment, stock, price and installation requirements with Honda or an authorized parts seller before choosing one.
Honda’s model page states a 165-pound capacity for the roof platform. It separately describes roof rails and accessory crossbars or platform supporting up to 209 pounds. Those figures refer to different configurations and should not be treated as interchangeable; verify the precise accessory setup and owner’s-manual load limits. The model page also identifies a front scuff plate and full-size spare tire kit as accessories.

How does TrailSport compare with the RTL?
The RTL is the less trail-focused trim, while TrailSport adds the off-road hardware listed above. Honda’s published EPA ratings are 19 city, 25 highway and 21 combined mpg for RTL variants, compared with 18/23/20 mpg for TrailSport variants. These are Honda-published ratings for comparison, not a prediction of an individual driver’s fuel economy. Compare actual equipment and configuration in Honda’s trim guide before deciding which differences matter to you.
What did TrailSport cost at launch?
At U.S. launch, American Honda Motor Co. listed TrailSport at $48,450 and TrailSport Elite at $52,450. Both figures were before the $1,450 destination charge and excluded tax, license, registration, options and premium colors; Honda said dealer prices could vary. These February 2025 launch MSRPs should not be read as current inventory pricing.
