Honda’s 2026 CRF300F replaces the CRF250F with a larger engine, a six-speed gearbox, an oil cooler and chassis revisions. Honda also lists a 2027 model. Those changes make the CRF300F a notable new recreational trail bike, but the available manufacturer specifications do not establish that Kawasaki is in trouble or that the Honda outperforms its rivals.

What’s new on the 2026 Honda CRF300F?

Honda announced the CRF300F on August 12, 2025, as the replacement for the CRF250F. The launch announcement describes a 294cc-class engine—44cc larger than its predecessor—and an 18% displacement increase, both figures stated by American Honda. It also identifies a change from five gears to six, an oil cooler, heat-resistant clutch-disc material, and chassis revisions including an aluminum rear-suspension link and bottom triple clamp. Honda said dealer availability was scheduled to begin in October 2025; that announcement does not confirm stock at any particular dealer. (American Honda’s 2025 launch announcement)

Honda’s 2026 specification sheet gives the engine displacement as 293cc: an air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke with a 77.0 x 63.0mm bore and stroke, 9.3:1 compression, SOHC four-valve layout, and PGM-FI fuel injection with a 34mm throttle body. The bike has a six-speed manual transmission and a #520 O-ring sealed chain with 14T/50T gearing. Honda marks the specifications as preliminary and subject to change. (Honda CRF300F specifications)

How does the CRF300F compare with the Kawasaki KLX230R?

The Kawasaki KLX230R is a reasonable recreational off-road comparison. The official U.S. information available here establishes some useful points of comparison, but not a complete matched specification set or a tested winner.

The displacement and price figures provide context, not proof of acceleration, handling, durability or value on a particular trail. Honda’s published total MSRP for the 2026 CRF300F is $5,299 including destination; Kawasaki’s listed base price plus destination is $5,434 before taxes or other dealer charges. Kawasaki lists the KLX230R specifications and pricing on its 2026 KLX230R model page. A meaningful choice still depends on rider fit, intended use, suspension needs, and the local final price.

Does the CRF300F put Kawasaki in “big trouble”?

That phrase is promotional framing, not a conclusion supported by the available figures. Honda describes the CRF300F as “the most capable CRF-F model to date” and says it expects the trail bike to be more of a hit than its predecessor. Those are statements from Colin Miller, American Honda’s manager of public relations—not independent test results. The cited manufacturer material does not establish which bike is faster, more reliable or better on the same trail, nor does it provide comparative sales or market-share data.

For a buyer, the practical takeaway is narrower: Honda has updated its recreational trail-bike offering with more displacement than the former CRF250F and a six-speed transmission, while the KLX230R remains a relevant Kawasaki alternative with the same published base MSRP for 2026. Compare current specifications, sit on both bikes if possible, and get a local quote before deciding.
