For 2026 U.S. models, Honda’s comparison gives the CR-V Hybrid the edge in maximum cargo capacity: 76.5 cubic feet versus 70.4 cubic feet for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. That is a specific win, not proof that the Honda is better overall. In Honda’s same comparison, the RAV4 Hybrid has more system horsepower and higher EPA fuel-economy ratings across the listed comparable configurations. Honda’s manufacturer comparison is useful for identifying the trade-offs, but it is not an independent test.
Honda’s clearest 2026 advantage is maximum cargo capacity
Honda lists 76.5 cu. ft. of maximum cargo capacity for the 2026 CR-V Hybrid and 70.4 cu. ft. for the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. The difference is 6.1 cu. ft. in Honda’s figures. These are manufacturer comparison figures, not measurements from an independent, standardized cargo test; cargo volume can also depend on how a maker measures the space and configures the vehicle.
For shoppers who routinely carry bulky gear, luggage, or household items, that listed difference makes the CR-V Hybrid worth a close look. Check the cargo area in person with the seats arranged as you would use them, particularly if you have a specific item that needs to fit.
How the two hybrids compare on power and EPA economy
The same Honda comparison lists 204 total system horsepower for the 2026 CR-V Hybrid and 236 hp for the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid. Honda also reproduces the following EPA city/highway/combined ratings. The figures vary by drivetrain and trim rather than applying uniformly across each model.

These ratings and horsepower figures are from Honda’s 2026 comparison. EPA estimates are for comparison; actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance, conditions, and battery age and condition. Match drivetrain and trim when weighing the numbers: a front-wheel-drive rating is not a fair stand-in for an all-wheel-drive model.
Honda also highlights standard equipment, but check the exact trims
Honda’s comparison describes several equipment advantages for the CR-V Hybrid: remote engine start and a rear-seat reminder across CR-V trims, Google built-in on the Sport Touring Hybrid, and ten standard driver aids, with three additional aids available on selected trims. In its description of the RAV4 Hybrid, Honda says remote start requires cellular signal and a subscription, Google built-in is not offered, seven driver aids are standard, and floor mats cost extra except on Woodland.

Before deciding, compare the specific model-year trim sheets and confirm the relevant feature and any service requirement with the manufacturer or dealer.
What the 2026 CR-V Hybrid costs at launch
American Honda’s 2026 model release listed the CR-V lineup at an MSRP starting at $30,920 before a $1,395 destination charge. Among the hybrid trims, the Sport Hybrid started at $35,630 and the Sport Touring Hybrid at $42,250. These are launch MSRPs from Honda’s release, not transaction prices, current dealer quotes, or a matched-price comparison with a RAV4 trim. What the newer model-year comparison changes
Honda’s comparison of the 2027 CR-V Hybrid with the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid shows the same broad cargo-versus-efficiency trade-off, but it is a model-year-mixed comparison, not a same-year matchup. Honda lists maximum cargo capacity at 76.5 cu. ft. for the 2027 CR-V Hybrid and 70.4 cu. ft. for the 2026 RAV4 Hybrid; it lists 204 hp and lower EPA ratings for the CR-V against 236 hp and higher ratings for the RAV4. Do not combine those figures with the 2026-versus-2026 table above as though they came from one same-year comparison. - Give the RAV4 Hybrid a closer look if the horsepower and EPA ratings shown for your intended drivetrain and trim matter more.
- Compare actual trims and prices before deciding. Honda’s launch MSRP is not a current quote, and headline figures alone do not establish equal equipment or value.
Honda reported that CR-V sales exceeded 400,000 units for the second consecutive year in 2025 and that hybrids made up 54% of CR-V sales. Those are Honda-reported sales figures, not independent evidence that one vehicle is the better purchase. American Honda’s 2026 business outlook gives that context.
