Choose the 2026 Pan America 1250 ST if you’ll spend most of your time on pavement; choose the Pan America 1250 Special if your rides regularly include rough backroads or unpaved routes. The ST’s 17-inch street wheels and lower, manually adjustable suspension suit road use, while the Special adds semi-active suspension and offers optional tubeless laced wheels. That recommendation follows Harley-Davidson’s published specifications and positioning—not independent back-to-back testing.
What separates the Pan America ST and Special?
Both are 2026 Pan America 1250 models, and Harley-Davidson lists the same engine output and U.S. starting MSRP for each. Their main distinction is equipment and intended use: the ST is configured around pavement, while the Special is the more adventure-oriented option.

Which one fits your riding?
Choose the ST for mostly paved riding
The ST is the more direct match if your usual routes are paved and you want street-oriented wheels and tires. Its lower suspension and listed 29.4-inch laden seat height may also appeal if you prefer a lower setup. Those specifications do not, by themselves, establish how easily you’ll reach the ground or manage the bike.

Choose the Special for mixed routes
If your plans regularly include rough backroads or unpaved travel, the Special’s semi-active suspension and the option of tubeless laced wheels are the more relevant features. It is still a substantial motorcycle: Harley-Davidson lists it at 578 lb running order, so consider your comfort handling that weight at low speeds as well as on the move.
Don’t choose by power alone
Harley-Davidson lists 150 hp for both 2026 models. Since that figure is shared, the practical distinction is their wheel and suspension setup, not a published power advantage for one over the other.

Check fit and equipment before buying
- Sit on both. A listed seat height does not tell the whole story about foot reach or confidence at a stop. Try each bike in person if possible.
- Test ride if available. Specifications cannot establish which bike feels easier to steer, ride or handle at low speed for you.
- Verify the actual configuration. Check model year, country, options and equipment on the current local listing. The ST’s Adaptive Ride Height fitment has a North American qualification on Harley-Davidson’s 2025 page; the 2026 ST page lists it as standard.
- Get a dealer quote. Treat the U.S. starting MSRP as a starting point, not the amount you will pay out the door.
Keep model years straight
Compare specifications from the same model year. For example, Harley-Davidson lists 95 ft-lb for the 2025 Special but 94 ft-lb for the 2026 Special on its 2025 Special page and 2026 Special page, respectively. Don’t carry a figure from an older listing into a comparison of current models.
