GMC lists a U.S. starting MSRP of $39,400. Its published specs also show five seats, up to 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space and a 1,500-pound maximum trailering capacity. A verified EPA fuel-economy figure was not available in the official technical sheet reviewed, and the equipment list alone does not establish how the AT4 performs on pavement or trails.
Is the 2026 GMC Terrain AT4 worth it?
The AT4 makes the most sense for a buyer who wants an AWD compact SUV with more protection and trail-focused equipment than a typical street-oriented trim. GMC lists a lifted ride height, off-road-tuned suspension, Hill Descent Control, an AT4-exclusive Terrain mode described for low-speed crawling, a front skid plate, a steel underbody shield and all-terrain tires. These are meaningful differences in the equipment brief, but they do not prove serious off-road capability; no independent off-road test is established here.

Whether its $39,400 starting MSRP is worth paying depends on how much you value that kit and the AT4’s standard AWD configuration. GMC’s illustrated configured prices are higher than the starting price, so use the actual vehicle’s window sticker and a current dealer quote to compare what is included. GMC states its listed MSRP excludes applicable taxes, title, license, dealer fees, destination and other charges, as well as options. What comes with the Terrain AT4?
Off-road-oriented equipment
- AT4-exclusive selectable Terrain mode, which GMC says is intended to help with low-speed crawling.
- Lifted ride height, red front recovery hooks, a front skid plate and steel underbody protection.
- Off-road-tuned suspension and Hill Descent Control.

These are manufacturer-listed features, not measured performance results. Confirm equipment on the specific vehicle’s sticker, particularly if a feature is important to your purchase.

Engine and drivetrain
GMC specifies a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD for the AT4. GMC’s next-generation Terrain technical sheet lists 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque for the AWD configuration. Those are manufacturer figures; the available material does not establish acceleration, ride comfort, cabin noise or real-world handling. See GMC’s 2024 Terrain technical announcement.
How much cargo space does it have?
GMC quotes 29.8 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row and 63.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Terrain seats five and has 60/40 split-fold rear seats and underfloor storage. These published capacities are useful for comparing specifications, but check whether the cargo floor, seat-fold arrangement and available space suit the items you actually carry.

The AT4 page lists a 15-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and an 11-inch-diagonal driver information display. A rear camera mirror, HD Surround Vision, panoramic sunroof and two-tone roof are identified as available features, not equipment to assume is fitted to every AT4. Check the particular vehicle’s window sticker. GMC’s AT4 page provides the listed cargo and cabin details.
How much can a 2026 Terrain AT4 tow?
GMC lists a maximum trailering capacity of 1,500 pounds for AWD Terrain models; AWD is standard on the AT4. The AT4 page says the trailering package includes a factory-installed hitch and wiring harness. The maximum is not a promise that every vehicle can tow that amount in every loading condition: passengers, cargo, options and vehicle-specific limits matter. Confirm the rating for the exact vehicle and follow its owner’s manual for trailering and payload limits before towing.

What gas mileage does the 2026 GMC Terrain AT4 get?
A verified EPA fuel-economy rating is not available in the official technical sheet cited here: GMC’s next-generation Terrain sheet labels city, highway and combined EPA-estimated MPG “Not Available.” No independent real-world fuel-economy result is established either. Do not treat an estimate from another model year or drivetrain as the AT4’s rating; check current EPA information for the exact U.S. vehicle before comparing fuel costs. What safety and driver-assistance features are included?
GMC advertises 16-plus standard safety and driver-assistance features. Examples it lists include Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Forward Collision Alert, HD Rear Vision Camera, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, IntelliBeam, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Safety Alert Seat. The specific vehicle’s sticker is the best way to verify its equipment.

- Price: Compare the starting MSRP with the exact vehicle’s sticker and a current quote, including destination, options, taxes and fees.
- Fuel economy: Get a current, verified U.S. EPA rating for the specific drivetrain before estimating ownership costs.
- Towing: Confirm the individual vehicle’s rating and payload limits; do not rely on the maximum alone.
- Equipment: Distinguish standard AT4 features from available options such as the rear camera mirror, surround-view camera and panoramic sunroof.
- Driving experience: Arrange a test drive if ride comfort, noise, infotainment response or trail behavior is important. The manufacturer specifications cited here do not answer those questions.
For a trim or small-SUV comparison, match drivetrain and equipment as closely as possible. Compare purchase price, verified fuel economy, cargo measurements, towing and payload limits, driver assistance, screen and phone integration, comfort options, and the level of trail hardware you will actually use. Official specifications can establish listed equipment; they do not establish comparative reliability or independent ride rankings.
