XL
The XL is the work-focused entry trim. Ford lists it with a 6.7L Power Stroke diesel and TorqShift 10-speed transmission. Available equipment includes the High-Capacity Gooseneck Tow Package and driver-assistance and convenience features.
XLT
The XLT adds features such as an available heated power front seat and an integrated trailer brake controller. Check the specific build to distinguish standard equipment from available options.

What engines and powertrain options are available?
The broader 2026 Super Duty lineup includes 6.8L and 7.3L gas V8 engines, a 6.7L Power Stroke diesel and a 6.7L High Output Power Stroke diesel. Availability varies by model and configuration, so the lineup-wide engine list should not be read as a promise that every engine is available on every F-450 trim.
Ford identifies the F-450 XL with a 6.7L 4-valve OHV Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel B20 and TorqShift 10-speed transmission. In its comparison information, Ford lists up to 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft for the High Output diesel, and 475 hp for the standard 6.7L diesel. How much can a 2026 Ford F-450 tow?
Ford lists a maximum available 40,000-pound gooseneck towing capacity for an F-450 XL Regular Cab 4×2 DRW equipped with the available 6.7L High Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel B20 and the required F-450 High-Capacity Gooseneck Tow Package. It is a configuration-specific maximum, not a rating for every F-450. Ford says maximum towing varies with cargo, configuration, accessories and passengers.

- Start with the trailer type: Match the actual trailer and hitch setup to the truck’s applicable gooseneck, fifth-wheel or conventional rating.
- Check payload as well as towing: The truck must carry the hitch load, occupants and cargo within its ratings; a high tow figure alone does not establish that a particular loaded setup is suitable.
- Verify the configuration: Confirm cab, 4×2 or 4×4, DRW, engine and required tow package for the vehicle being priced.
- Compare equipment carefully: Separate standard features from optional or package-dependent items, and do not assume a photo shows standard equipment.
