For the 2026 U.S. BMW 3 Series sedan, the documented choice is four regular models—not seven: the 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, and M340i xDrive. BMW has also announced a limited M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition. The practical decision is between two engine tiers and rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive.

How many 2026 BMW 3 Series models are there?

BMW USA’s 2026 model and pricing materials, along with its 2026 warranty model-year list, identify four regular 3 Series sedan variants. The “seven flavors” count is not supported by those sources; it may depend on counting packages or other vehicles, but BMW’s cited lineup does not establish those as additional regular 2026 sedan models.

BMW separately announced the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition as a limited special edition. It is not a fifth regular drivetrain-and-model combination. The lineup and prices below refer to the U.S. market; BMW’s live pricing can change, and a starting MSRP is before options, tax, title, registration, and any dealer adjustment.

2026 BMW 3 Series models and starting prices

Model Starting MSRP Engine and output Drivetrain
330i $48,000 BMW-listed 255 hp Rear-wheel drive
330i xDrive $50,000 BMW-listed 255 hp xDrive all-wheel drive
M340i $62,300 3.0-liter inline-six with 48V mild-hybrid technology; BMW-listed 386 hp Rear-wheel drive
M340i xDrive $64,300 3.0-liter inline-six with 48V mild-hybrid technology; BMW-listed 386 hp xDrive all-wheel drive

Figures are BMW USA’s listed starting MSRPs and power ratings for the 2026 U.S. models; check BMW’s current 3 Series overview for updated pricing and configuration details. BMW’s 2026 warranty model-year document also names the four regular variants.

What changes between the 330i and M340i?

330i: the lower starting price and output tier

Both 330i versions are listed at 255 hp. Choose between rear-wheel drive in the 330i and xDrive all-wheel drive in the 330i xDrive. BMW’s listed starting prices put the xDrive version $2,000 above the rear-drive model.

M340i: the six-cylinder performance tier

The M340i models move to a 3.0-liter inline-six with 48V mild-hybrid technology and BMW-listed output of 386 hp. The rear-wheel-drive M340i starts $14,300 above the 330i; the M340i xDrive starts $14,300 above the 330i xDrive. Those are differences calculated from BMW’s listed starting MSRPs, not quotes for configured or dealer-stock cars.

What does xDrive add?

Within each engine tier, xDrive is the all-wheel-drive alternative: the 330i xDrive pairs it with the 255-hp 330i powertrain, while the M340i xDrive combines it with the 386-hp inline-six mild-hybrid system. BMW’s listed starting MSRP is $2,000 higher for each xDrive counterpart. The cited materials do not establish fuel-economy figures or a specific driving-condition advantage, so those should not be assumed from the drivetrain name alone.

Which 2026 3 Series should you choose?

  • Choose the 330i if you want the lowest listed starting price and rear-wheel drive.
  • Choose the 330i xDrive if you want the 330i’s listed power with all-wheel drive and accept the $2,000 higher starting MSRP.
  • Choose the M340i if you want the 386-hp six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain in a rear-wheel-drive model.
  • Choose the M340i xDrive if you want that same listed engine and output with all-wheel drive.

Before comparing dealer offers, configure the cars with the equipment you actually want: these starting prices do not reveal the cost or contents of a particular option package. The official material cited here also does not supply final EPA fuel-economy ratings for these configurations.

Do not confuse the 2026 cars with BMW’s announced next generation

On September 30, 2026, BMW announced a next-generation U.S. lineup expected to begin launching in Q1 2027: the 330, 330 xDrive, M350 xDrive, and electric i3 50 xDrive. These announced vehicles are not additional trims of the 2026 lineup.

BMW announced base MSRPs of $49,900 for the 330, $51,900 for the 330 xDrive, $65,900 for the M350 xDrive, and $61,500 for the i3 50 xDrive; each requires $1,350 destination and handling. The announcement lists 437 hp and a 3.9-second 0–60 mph time for the M350 xDrive. For the i3 50 xDrive, it gives 463 hp and a 446–468-mile range estimate based on preliminary BMW AG testing using EPA procedures—not a final EPA-certified range. These are next-generation announced figures, not 2026-model specifications. See BMW Group’s September 30, 2026 announcement for the details.
