Toyota, meanwhile, has announced several real sports-car updates and unveiled the GR GT, GR GT3 and Lexus LFA Concept—but those three were presented as prototypes or a concept, not as 2026 retail cars. The clearest forecast is therefore a year of distinct paths for performance cars, not a confirmed return of the V8 Charger or an imminent Toyota supercar launch.
Is Dodge bringing back a V8 Charger for 2026?
There is no substantiated announcement of a new V8 Charger in the information available here. Dodge’s published 2026 lineup instead pairs two gasoline Charger versions with its 3.0-liter twin-turbo SIXPACK inline-six and offers an all-electric Daytona Scat Pack. That describes the announced lineup; it does not prove Dodge will never build another V8 Charger.
Dodge calls the Charger a muscle car, rather than a sports car, in its official Charger FAQ. Its gas models have all-wheel drive and can send torque to the rear wheels at the driver’s command, according to that FAQ.
What Dodge says the 2026 versions produce
| 2026 Charger version | Powertrain | Dodge-published output |
|---|---|---|
| R/T | 3.0-liter twin-turbo SIXPACK inline-six | 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque |
| Scat Pack | High-output 3.0-liter twin-turbo SIXPACK inline-six | 550 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque |
| Daytona Scat Pack | All-electric | Not stated in the cited Charger FAQ and announcements |
The R/T and Scat Pack figures are Dodge’s published specifications for the 2026 models, not independent test results. Dodge CEO Matt McAlear described the new lineup as delivering “the most horsepower and most torque of any muscle car in its class”; that is a manufacturer promotional claim, not a third-party comparison.

What the listed prices do—and do not—tell buyers
Dodge’s 2026 Charger FAQ lists starting prices of $49,995 for the R/T, $54,995 for the Scat Pack and $59,995 for the Daytona Scat Pack. The FAQ says four-door models cost an additional $2,000. These are manufacturer-listed prices, not a guarantee of a current transaction price; confirm the price, body style and availability for the relevant market with Dodge or a dealer.
What Toyota sports cars are actually part of the 2026 picture?
Toyota’s news and announcements point to two different kinds of developments: model-year coverage for existing GR cars, and a set of higher-profile projects still identified as prototypes or a concept. Keeping those statuses separate is essential: a premiere is not the same as a retail launch.

GR Corolla, GR Supra and GR86: model-year coverage
Toyota USA’s sports-car newsroom lists 2026 coverage for the GR Corolla, GR Supra and GR86. That establishes U.S. model-year newsroom coverage, not one shared specification, a complete U.S. price list or the availability of every configuration at every dealer.
Toyota also announced a partially upgraded GR86 for Japan on August 6, 2026. The changes it described include throttle control, electric power steering, shift operability and a triple-camera EyeSight driver-assist configuration. Toyota said Japanese dealers would begin accepting orders on August 28, 2026. Those details and that order date apply to the Japanese announcement; they should not be read as confirmation of U.S. specifications or a U.S. order date.

GR GT, GR GT3 and Lexus LFA Concept: unveiled, not confirmed as 2026 retail cars
At a world premiere on December 5, 2025, Toyota Motor Corporation presented the GR GT and GR GT3 as prototypes and the Lexus LFA as a concept. Toyota described the GR GT as a new flagship sports-car project for the GR brand. The company said the projects share engineering priorities of a low center of gravity, low weight with high rigidity, and aerodynamic performance. Those are Toyota’s stated design priorities, not independently measured results.
The premiere did not establish a 2026 customer launch date, production specification, price or retail availability for any of the three projects. It is reasonable to expect continued attention to them, but treating them as cars buyers can order in 2026 would go beyond the announcement.

How to read the forecasts without mixing up cars or markets
The headline questions span a production muscle car, current Toyota model-year coverage and future-facing concepts. Compare them by status and market as well as by performance ambitions:
- Powertrain: Dodge lists gasoline inline-six Charger trims and an electric Daytona. The Toyota premiere material describes projects, not retail powertrain specifications for 2026 customer cars.
- Evidence: Dodge has published output figures for its R/T and Scat Pack. Toyota’s GR GT engineering priorities are manufacturer-stated goals, not comparable output figures or test measurements.
- Vehicle role: Dodge identifies the Charger as a muscle car. Toyota calls the GR GT a GR-brand flagship sports-car project.
- Market: Dodge’s cited lineup information is for its 2026 Charger. Toyota USA’s newsroom coverage is U.S.-specific; the GR86 upgrade and order timing are Japan-specific. Toyota UK’s GR range is UK-specific and cautions that specifications may vary.
- Availability: A newsroom item, prototype premiere, concept unveiling and stated dealer order date are different kinds of evidence. None should be stretched into a global launch claim.
What is a reasonable 2026 auto-industry prediction?
On the evidence available, performance-car news in 2026 is better described as a mix of powertrain choices and development stages than as a single industry-wide shift. Dodge’s announced Charger lineup puts a twin-turbo six-cylinder beside an electric model, while Toyota’s announcements span existing GR nameplates, a Japan-specific GR86 update and future-facing projects. These examples do not establish overall sales trends, EV adoption rates or the likelihood of a V8 returning; no reliable industry-wide figures or probability for those claims are established here.
