The 2025 Toyota Prius Nightshade is an XLE-based trim with blacked-out exterior details, distinctive cabin trim and a new exclusive paint color. Toyota announced it on January 7, 2025. The “beauty contest” idea is playful framing, not an award or an independent design judgment: the meaningful question is what Nightshade adds over the XLE, and how it compares with the Limited.
What does the 2025 Prius Nightshade add?
Toyota positioned Nightshade as the third grade in the 2025 Prius lineup: LE, XLE, Nightshade and Limited. It builds on the XLE rather than introducing a separately described powertrain. Its main distinction is coordinated dark styling, with several cabin details to match. Toyota’s January 7, 2025 announcement describes the grade and its equipment.
Black exterior details
- Black-finished 19-inch alloy wheels
- Black exterior badging and shark-fin antenna
- Black front door handles and bumper trim
- Black doorsills
The result is an XLE with a consistent dark treatment rather than a different body style.
Cabin and color
Toyota listed black 8-way adjustable SofTex-trimmed front seats with gray stitching and a carbon-fiber dashboard detail. For exterior paint, the announcement listed Karashi as exclusive to Nightshade, alongside Midnight Black Metallic and Wind Chill Pearl. Toyota called Karashi a “new exclusive color”; the name alone does not establish a more precise description of its appearance.

How Nightshade compares with XLE and Limited
Nightshade occupies the middle ground: it retains the XLE basis and adds a styling package, while Limited sits above it with additional comfort and technology equipment. Toyota listed heated front seats, Qi-compatible wireless charging, rain-sensing wipers and 19-inch alloy wheels among XLE features. Limited adds a power liftback, driver memory, heated and ventilated front seats, JBL audio and a 12.3-inch screen.

The practical distinction is whether the Nightshade-specific appearance is worth choosing over the XLE, or whether the Limited’s additional equipment matters more. The announcement does not establish that Nightshade is mechanically different from the XLE.

Power, fuel economy and the FWD or AWD choice
The 2025 Prius uses Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system with a 2.0-liter engine. Toyota’s January 2025 announcement gave lineup maxima of up to 194 net-combined horsepower for front-wheel drive and up to 196 horsepower for electronic all-wheel drive (e-AWD). It cited up to 57 mpg combined EPA-estimated for the lineup and 54 mpg combined for e-AWD.
These are not a guarantee that every Nightshade configuration earns the lineup’s top fuel-economy figure. FWD and e-AWD differ in the stated horsepower and fuel-economy figures; check the EPA label for the exact vehicle you are considering rather than applying a lineup maximum to every configuration.

What did the 2025 Nightshade cost?
A Toyota/BuyaToyota.com search result captured October 7, 2026 listed base MSRP of $32,560 for 2025 Prius Nightshade FWD and $33,960 for Nightshade AWD. Those are listed base MSRPs, not dealer transaction prices or current local offers. The live vehicle-shopping page displayed a maintenance notice when checked, so the figures could not be confirmed on the page itself. For inventory or a quote, use Toyota’s 2025 Prius shopping page and confirm the price and configuration with a dealer.

- Consider it if you want the XLE-based Prius equipment with a coordinated black exterior treatment and Nightshade-specific cabin details.
- Compare it with the XLE if the dark trim and exclusive color are the main reasons you would pay more; the available evidence does not establish a separate powertrain.
- Compare it with the Limited if its added liftback, memory, seat, audio or screen features are more important than Nightshade’s styling.
- Compare the exact FWD and e-AWD vehicle’s EPA label and local price before deciding; the announced lineup maxima do not apply uniformly to every configuration.
Toyota’s current Nightshade overview links shoppers to inventory, dealers, quotes and parts or accessories, but it displays newer model years and is not a source for 2025 specifications.
