- For a smaller crossover: Compare the GLA and GLB. Both were offered in standard and 4MATIC forms; AMG variants were also listed. Mercedes-Benz frames the GLB as the more space- and adventure-oriented choice.
- For a midsize SUV: The GLC offers gasoline and plug-in-hybrid versions. The larger GLE range includes gasoline and plug-in-hybrid choices, AMG models and a Coupe body style.
- For three-row luxury: Consider the GLS, which Mercedes-Benz describes as full-size with a standard third row. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 sits at the more luxury-focused end of the range.

AMG versions appear within several families, so AMG is not a separate size category. The GLC Electric SUV shown on Mercedes-Benz’s live SUV page is not identified as a 2025 family in the dated model-year release and should not be treated as part of this 2025 lineup.
How do the 2025 powertrains differ?
Gasoline SUVs
Gasoline versions span the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS and G-Class families. The listed GLE 350 was rear-wheel drive, while the GLE 350 4MATIC and other 4MATIC versions provide the manufacturer’s all-wheel-drive configuration. The release also lists 4MATIC variants in the smaller GLA and GLB ranges. Match drivetrain to your use and the exact trim; the family name alone does not specify it.

Plug-in hybrids
The GLC 350e 4MATIC was new for 2025, and the GLE 450e 4MATIC was also in the range. Mercedes-Benz stated that the GLC 350e could travel up to 54 miles on electric power under the EPA measure. That is the manufacturer’s stated figure for this plug-in hybrid, not a range estimate for the EQ electric SUVs. A plug-in hybrid can be useful if you can charge regularly and still want a gasoline powertrain for longer trips; actual electric driving distance depends on conditions and use.
Battery-electric SUVs
The EQB, EQE SUV and EQS SUV are the 2025 battery-electric SUV families in the release. The G 580 with EQ Technology adds an electric G-Class alternative. If you are considering one, factor in home-charging access, public charging availability and the routes your household commonly drives. Do not apply the GLC 350e’s quoted electric range to these fully electric vehicles.

What changed for 2025?
- GLC: The new GLC 350e 4MATIC joined the range. Mercedes-Benz also announced expanded standard equipment across the GLC SUV series: third-generation MBUX, a digital vehicle key, a center airbag between the front seats and a 5G communications module.
- G-Class: The G 580 with EQ Technology was the first fully electric G-Class model, according to Mercedes-Benz’s October 16, 2024 release. The manufacturer described a 116-kWh battery, four individually controlled motors, selectable LOW RANGE and off-road functions including G-TURN and G-STEERING. It retains a ladder frame, independent front suspension and a solid rear axle, according to that release.
- GLE: The range added a rear-wheel-drive GLE 350 and a standard biometric fingerprint sensor.
- EQS SUV: Mercedes-Benz listed expanded standard equipment including four-zone climate control, soft-close doors, front headrest cushions and a center airbag between the front seats.
- GLA and GLB: A standalone Surround View System became newly available. The GLB also gained Night Package Lite.
These are manufacturer-announced model-year changes, not a claim that every vehicle on a dealer lot has identical equipment. Verify the build sheet for the exact trim and vehicle.

- Set the space requirement. Decide whether you need a compact footprint, midsize cabin, full-size three-row layout, or the distinctive form of a Coupe or G-Class. Confirm seating and cargo configuration on the specific vehicle.
- Choose the powertrain. Decide whether gasoline, plug-in hybrid or battery electric better suits your driving. For an EV, consider charging at home and on regular routes; for a plug-in hybrid, consider whether you will plug it in often enough to use its electric capability.
- Compare trim and drivetrain. Check whether the exact version is rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC and review its equipment and driver-assistance features. AMG and Maybach versions have distinct performance or luxury priorities and different configurations.
- Check the vehicle-specific details. Use the exact vehicle’s build sheet and owner’s manual for controls, maintenance schedules and installed equipment. Do not assume a feature announced for a model family is fitted to every trim or vehicle.

It also described two years of complimentary charging at the Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging network, with terms and conditions applying. This was a historical model-year offer; the release does not establish that it is available now. Check current eligibility and terms with Mercedes-Benz before relying on it.
