Is the Hyundai Kona a hybrid or electric?
No: the 2025 gasoline Kona is not a hybrid. Hyundai’s FAQ on the 2025 gasoline model page answers, “No, KONA is not currently available as a hybrid.” The Kona Electric is a separate vehicle, so its range, charging requirements, and pricing should not be mixed with the gasoline Kona’s specifications.

What the 2026 safety claim does—and does not—tell you
Hyundai’s 2026 U.S. Kona overview says the model was named a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+. That is Hyundai’s award claim, not a complete account of crash performance. The designation does not by itself establish how every trim or equipment configuration performs; consult the 2026 Hyundai Kona overview and the applicable IIHS vehicle record for qualifying equipment and test details.
Consumer Reports’ 2026 Kona ratings page explains that its overall score can take road-test performance, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, available safety systems, and crash-test results into account when tested. A Kona score or specific findings are not established here, so this overview does not assign one. View Consumer Reports’ 2026 Kona page for its current published information.

How to compare a Kona with other small SUVs
Use matching model years and configurations. A lower starting MSRP is not a like-for-like comparison if the competing vehicle has different equipment or drivetrain. Check these items for each vehicle:
- Model year and trim, including which features are actually included.
- FWD versus AWD availability and the price of the configuration you would buy.
- Trim-specific EPA city, highway, and combined estimates.
- Safety equipment and the details behind any award or crash-test claim.
- Manufacturer-listed MSRP versus a current local quote, including destination and fees.
- Warranty coverage, maintenance terms, eligibility, and exclusions.
If you are deciding between a gasoline Kona and the Kona Electric, compare purchase price, access to charging, range, and energy costs separately. The electric model’s figures are not covered by the gasoline specifications here.
