Which 2025 Mustang GT trims and body styles are available?
Ford’s GT lineup has three body-style and trim combinations. The GT Fastback is the entry point to the GT range; GT Premium is available as either a Fastback or a Convertible. Dark Horse is a separate Mustang model, not a GT trim.

The equipment-group number matters: GT Premium does not by itself establish that every optional feature is fitted. Ford’s 2025 Mustang Order Guide identifies the groups and option dependencies. For a specific used or new car, confirm equipment from its window sticker or build information rather than relying only on the trim badge.

GT vs. GT Premium: what changes?
GT and GT Premium share the 5.0L V8, but Premium adds equipment-group choices and is the only GT trim offered as a convertible. Ford’s order guide separates GT equipment groups 300A and 301A from GT Premium groups 400A and 401A. Features can vary by group, body style, and selected options, so compare the exact order or window sticker when evaluating two cars.
One model-year-wide comfort detail: Ford HQ said on January 6, 2025, that “Dual-zone automatic temperature control is standard on all EcoBoost and GT models.” Ford also noted that Connected Built-in Navigation became Connected Navigation and its complimentary trial changed from three years to one. The B&O Sound System is listed as a freestanding option on EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium, not as equipment guaranteed by the Premium name. How much horsepower does the 2025 Mustang GT have?
Ford rates the 5.0L V8 at 480 horsepower at 7,150 rpm and 415 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 rpm when using 93-octane fuel. With active exhaust, Ford lists 486 hp at 7,250 rpm and 418 lb-ft at 4,900 rpm, also on 93-octane fuel. The active-exhaust output is a configuration-specific figure, not the rating for every GT.
Manual or automatic: what is standard?
The six-speed manual with rev matching is standard in the order guide’s GT configurations. The optional 10-speed SelectShift automatic changes more than the shift mechanism: the order guide associates it with a 3.15 limited-slip rear axle, paddle shifters, remote start, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The manual GT configuration is listed with a 3.55 limited-slip rear axle. Verify the specific car’s order details, especially when comparing equipment across trims or body styles.

Does the GT Performance Package come standard?
No. Ford lists the GT Performance Package as optional. Its listed hardware includes staggered 19-inch wheels with summer-only tires, Brembo brakes with performance linings, an electric hand-operated parking brake (often called a drift brake), and front tow hooks. Exact contents and availability can depend on body style and other selections, so check the order guide and the vehicle’s actual build.
The summer-only tires are an important ownership difference, not just a performance detail: a package-equipped car’s tire setup is distinct from a standard GT’s, and should be considered when weighing year-round use. A Performance Package label should not be assumed from the GT badge or from appearance alone.

Which GT configuration should you choose?
- GT Fastback: Choose this if you want the GT coupe and prefer to compare the standard GT equipment groups without needing Premium’s convertible option.
- GT Premium Fastback: Consider it if you want the Premium equipment-group range in a coupe; confirm which group and options the particular car has.
- GT Premium Convertible: This is the open-top GT choice. Check the exact order for its equipment and any package availability rather than assuming Fastback equipment carries over unchanged.
- Manual: The standard six-speed offers the listed 3.55 limited-slip axle configuration.
- Automatic: The optional 10-speed is associated in Ford’s order guide with a 3.15 limited-slip axle and the listed convenience and shift-control equipment.
- GT Performance Package: Look for it if its brakes, wheel-and-tire setup, and other listed hardware match your intended use; account for its summer-only tires.
