The 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is a street-focused performance version of Ford’s compact pickup, not a more powerful engine package or a Raptor substitute. It keeps the 2.0-liter EcoBoost’s 250 hp and 277 lb-ft ratings, while adding a lowered, retuned chassis, torque-vectoring advanced 4WD, larger front brakes, extra cooling and a Lobo-specific seven-speed automatic. Ford positions it alongside the off-road-focused Tremor and efficiency-minded Hybrid—not as a Raptor comparison.
What makes the 2025 Maverick Lobo different?
Ford describes the Lobo as the “street-performance version of Maverick.” Its upgrades focus on how the truck steers, corners and manages power, rather than on a higher-output engine. Ford’s launch description says the Lobo complements the Tremor’s off-road capability and the Hybrid’s efficiency. Ford does not publish a direct Lobo-versus-Raptor comparison, so a Raptor matchup in power, speed or capability cannot be established from its cited material.
Lower ride height and revised chassis tuning
Ford says the Lobo sits 0.5 inch lower at the front and 1.12 inches lower at the rear than the Maverick baseline cited in its launch article; its roof is 0.8 inch lower. It also gets performance-tuned steering and suspension with revised springs and shocks. The aim is a street-oriented setup, not the increased clearance associated with an off-road trim.
Torque-vectoring four-wheel drive
The Lobo’s advanced 4WD system uses a twin-clutch rear drive unit. Ford says torque vectoring through that unit helps the truck corner and minimize understeer. That hardware is paired with the Lobo’s dedicated seven-speed automatic and paddle shifters.

Brakes, cooling and wheels
Other changes include larger front rotors and pads with dual-piston front calipers, plus a larger radiator and fan from the Maverick 4K towing package and a transmission oil cooler. Standard wheels are 19-inch black-painted aluminum turbofan designs with 225/55R19 tires.
How much horsepower does the 2025 Maverick Lobo have?
Ford rates the Lobo’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four at 250 hp at 5,500 rpm and 277 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Those figures are based on premium fuel and SAE J1349 procedures; Ford cautions that results may vary. They are manufacturer ratings, not independent test results. The engine output is shared in concept with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost Maverick powertrain; the Lobo’s performance distinction is its transmission, driveline and chassis tuning.

Ford identifies the transmission as a seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters in its technical specifications and as a “7-Speed Quick Shift Transmission” in the 2025 order guide. Ford’s published fuel-economy figures for the 2025 Lobo 2.0L AWD are 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined; these are Ford’s stated figures, not a real-world test.
Can you use Lobo Mode on public roads?
No. Ford says Lobo Mode is meant only for closed courses because it activates torque vectoring while reducing the capability of the stability-control system. That restriction matters: Ford does not present the mode as a public-road handling setting. Do not use it on public roads.

What utility does the Lobo give up?
The lower stance and street-focused setup come with modest clearance and working limits. Ford’s 2025 specifications list 7.4 inches of minimum running ground clearance, maximum payload of 1,045 pounds and maximum towing of 2,000 pounds. The Lobo’s listed tow maximum remains 2,000 pounds; the cooling components borrowed from the 4K towing package do not establish a higher Lobo tow rating.
The bed is not shorter than the other 2025 Maverick trims in Ford’s specifications. Ford lists a 54.4-inch bed-floor length, 53.3-inch exposed cargo width and 33.3 cubic feet of cargo volume for the Lobo.

Does the Lobo make sense as a Maverick trim?
The choice depends on the kind of Maverick you want. Ford’s own positioning distinguishes the Lobo’s street performance from the Tremor’s off-road focus and the Hybrid’s efficiency role. The Lobo’s lower ride height, torque-vectoring rear drive unit, tuned suspension and steering, and enhanced front brakes make it the specialized choice for street-oriented driving. Its published clearance, payload and tow figures are worth weighing if hauling or trail use matters more than those chassis changes.
Ford’s specifications and launch description explain what hardware and ratings the Lobo has, but do not provide acceleration times, lap times or independent handling measurements. They also do not quantify a performance gap to any Raptor model. The most precise takeaway is that the Lobo is a more street-focused Maverick—not a documented smaller Raptor.
