The Lobo’s factory changes focus on chassis and driveline hardware—not a factory engine tune—and its Lobo drive mode is intended only for closed courses.
What makes the Maverick Lobo different?
Ford positions the Lobo as an on-road performance variant of the Maverick. It combines a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with a seven-speed automatic in the Lobo AWD configuration, a lowered ride height, road-tuned suspension and a twin-clutch rear drive unit that can use torque vectoring. Ford says the setup is intended to improve cornering, grip and stability and help minimize understeer. Ford’s Lobo announcement describes those design goals; they are not independent test results.
Lower stance and chassis hardware
Compared with the regular Maverick, Ford says the Lobo sits 0.5 inch lower at the front and 1.12 inches lower at the rear, with roof height 0.8 inch lower. Its tuned steering and suspension are part of the street-focused setup.
Brakes and cooling
Ford lists larger, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front calipers, along with a larger radiator and fan and a transmission oil cooler. Those are manufacturer-described components, not proof of a measured stopping-distance or track-performance advantage.

Lobo mode is for closed courses
Ford says Lobo mode activates torque vectoring while reducing stability-control intervention. The company’s warning is explicit: “Lobo mode is meant only for closed courses because it activates the truck’s torque vectoring and reduces the capability of the stability control system.” Do not treat it as a public-road handling setting.
Is the Lobo a hybrid?
No. The Lobo and the AWD hybrid are separate powertrain configurations. Ford’s 2025 Maverick and Lobo technical specifications list the Lobo AWD with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost and seven-speed automatic. The 2.5-liter hybrid uses an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT). The Lobo’s torque-vectoring rear drive hardware should not be conflated with the hybrid’s AWD option.

What changed for the 2025 Maverick Hybrid?
Ford de México announced that AWD became available with the 2025 Maverick Hybrid. Its July 31, 2024 release is specific to the Mexico market, so its figures and equipment statements should be read in that context rather than assumed to apply identically to every market or U.S. build.
In that announcement, Ford de México cited a target estimate of 17.85 km/L and a range of 804 km for the standard front-wheel-drive hybrid, based on U.S. EPA evaluations. Those are figures for the named FWD configuration in the regional release, not universal ratings for the AWD hybrid. The same release says the AWD hybrid towing package raises stated capacity from 900 kg to 1,800 kg. Confirm the applicable rating and package for the specific market and vehicle. Ford de México’s announcement provides the regional details.

Which configuration fits which use?
| Configuration | Powertrain and transmission | AWD and driving focus | Availability and towing context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maverick Lobo AWD | 2.0-liter EcoBoost; seven-speed automatic, per Ford’s U.S. technical specifications. | Twin-clutch rear drive unit with torque vectoring; lowered ride height and road-tuned suspension. Lobo mode is restricted to closed-course use by Ford. | Ford’s technical sheet identifies the configuration; the cited sources do not establish a comparable Lobo towing figure. |
| Maverick Hybrid AWD | 2.5-liter hybrid; electronic continuously variable transmission, per Ford’s U.S. technical specifications. | AWD became an available hybrid option for 2025, according to Ford de México. It is distinct from the Lobo’s EcoBoost/twin-clutch setup. | Ford de México states 900 kg to 1,800 kg with the AWD hybrid towing package in its Mexico-market release. |
| Standard FWD Maverick Hybrid | 2.5-liter hybrid; electronic continuously variable transmission, per Ford’s U.S. technical specifications. | Front-wheel drive; not the AWD hybrid or the Lobo. | Ford de México cited a target 17.85 km/L and 804 km range in its release, based on U.S. EPA evaluations. |
The Lobo is the distinct choice for buyers interested in Ford’s lowered, street-oriented EcoBoost hardware. The hybrid AWD option is the relevant change for someone seeking a hybrid Maverick with driven rear wheels. The manufacturer material cited here describes specifications and intended character, but does not provide an independent comparative driving test or establish which is better for a particular driver.
