Chevrolet reported that a 2025 Corvette ZR1 coupe averaged 233 mph over two runs on the high-speed oval at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany. That is a remarkable manufacturer-reported closed-course result—not proof that the ZR1 is the fastest production car in every market, under every record standard, or as of today. And “Flex” is not a factory ZR1 fuel-system feature in the available specifications.
What the 233-mph figure means
Chevrolet announced the result on October 29, 2024, describing a 233 mph two-way average from runs on the oval’s northbound and southbound straightaways. A two-way average is distinct from quoting a single peak-speed pass. The result was achieved at a closed-course facility, and Chevrolet’s account is the source for the figure; it is not an independently established all-market ranking.
At the time of the announcement, Chevrolet called the ZR1 unrivaled among current production cars priced under $1 million. That statement is bounded by the comparison Chevrolet made then: it does not establish an unqualified or current ranking across all production cars. Chevrolet’s reported Papenburg account also identifies GM president Mark Reuss as the driver for the record-setting run.
How the record-setting ZR1 was equipped
The record car was a coupe with standard chassis and aero, a standard spoiler fitted with a short wicker, carbon-fiber ground effects, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and aluminum wheels. Chevrolet said the car used Top Speed Mode, which adjusts chassis control systems for maximum speed and is exclusively for closed-course use.

Chevrolet reported that the engine reached redline in sixth gear at 233 mph. An engineer rode as passenger to analyze data, and five engineers and both development cars reportedly exceeded 230 mph over multiple runs. These are details from Chevrolet’s account, not a published independent test log.
What powers the C8 ZR1
Chevrolet lists the LT7 as a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm, with figures stated per SAE guidelines. Those are Chevrolet specifications for the factory ZR1. Chevrolet’s performance announcement also presents the car’s acceleration claims, which should not be confused with the Papenburg top-speed result.

Top speed and acceleration use different configurations
Chevrolet’s quoted acceleration numbers distinguish the standard ZR1 from the available ZTK-equipped car. The figures below are manufacturer claims, not results from the 233 mph oval run.
| Configuration | 0–60 mph | Quarter mile | Relevant distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard ZR1 | 2.5 seconds | 9.7 seconds | Chevrolet’s comparison figures; the standard-aero car’s reported quarter-mile trap speed was 152 mph. |
| ZR1 with available ZTK | 2.3 seconds | 9.6 seconds | Chevrolet associates these claims with ZTK’s high-downforce Carbon Fiber Aero Package and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. |
Chevrolet says its acceleration tests used 93-octane pump fuel on a non-prepped drag-strip surface. The standard-aero car reportedly trapped 152 mph in the quarter mile, 2 mph faster than the ZTK car. That distinction illustrates why top-speed, elapsed-time, and aerodynamic-package figures should not be treated as results from one identical setup. Chevrolet separately claims more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed for its purposeful carbon-fiber aero package; that claim does not describe the standard-aero record car. Chevrolet’s ZR1 performance figures and test-condition notes provide the cited specifications.

Is the 2025 ZR1 flex-fuel?
The factory ZR1 specifications and record account cited here do not identify the car as flex-fuel. The “Flex” wording in the title should therefore be read as informal language for a performance “flex,” not as a verified factory fuel capability.
A separate vehicle is described in Specialty Vehicle Engineering’s 2025 Yenko/SC Corvette brochure: E85 capability applies to that tuner’s Stage II package. It is not evidence that a Chevrolet factory ZR1 can run E85, and the two cars should not be conflated. The Yenko/SC 2025 brochure covers the modified package.

How to read the record responsibly
- It is a reported two-way result: Chevrolet’s 233 mph figure is an average of northbound and southbound runs at Papenburg.
- It is tied to a specified car: the record account describes a standard-aero coupe with Pilot Sport 4S tires and aluminum wheels, not the ZTK acceleration setup.
- It is a closed-course achievement: Top Speed Mode is described by Chevrolet as exclusively for closed-course use.
- Its ranking claim has limits: Chevrolet’s under-$1-million comparison was made at the time of its 2024 announcement; the cited material does not establish a current all-market ranking.
Chevrolet’s announcement is reproduced in a dealer blog rather than a directly linked Chevrolet pressroom page, so technical and record claims above are attributed to the manufacturer. A Car and Driver test syndicated through Yahoo is also listed at Yahoo Autos, but the available material does not support using it to substantiate finer details of the Papenburg record.
