The 2025 Cadillac Optiq makes a strong equipment-and-range case as Cadillac’s entry-point electric SUV: GM estimates 302 miles per charge, and standard features include all-wheel drive, Super Cruise, Google built-in and a 19-speaker AKG audio system. The caveat is that the available road-test evidence comes from one reviewer’s week with a Sport 2, while current transaction prices and full trim-by-trim specifications are not established here.
What the 2025 Cadillac Optiq is
Cadillac positioned the Optiq as a new entry-point luxury EV in its U.S. lineup. At launch, GM announced Luxury and Sport trims and an estimated starting price of $54,000 including destination charges, before tax, title, license and dealer fees. GM’s announcement specifies a 85-kWh battery and standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, with manufacturer-estimated output of 300 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It gives the Optiq an EPA-estimated range of 302 miles. GM says the range estimate is based on development testing and/or analytical projection, is subject to change, and that actual range varies with factors including temperature, terrain, battery age, loading and vehicle use. What one week behind the wheel revealed
Tom’s Guide reviewer John Velasco drove a 2025 Optiq Sport 2 for a week. His results are a useful real-world reference, but they are one test—not a second official range rating or a guarantee for other drivers, routes or conditions. Tom’s Guide review

Efficiency varied by route
Velasco reported driving 309.4 miles and averaging 3.2 miles per kilowatt-hour over the test. In a 42.3-mile segment that was mostly highway driving, he recorded 3.1 mi/kWh; on a 5.7-mile local trip, he recorded 3.9 mi/kWh. Those figures describe his tested Sport 2 and routes, not the EPA range estimate.
Level 1 charging was slow
Using a 120-volt outlet, Velasco says the Optiq added 30 miles over 8.01 hours, or a reported 3.74 miles of range per hour. That is a test-specific result for Level 1 charging; it should not be treated as a general charging rate for every outlet, vehicle or condition.

Driving impressions and visibility
Velasco praised the Optiq’s sporty design, efficiency for its size, head-up display and Super Cruise lane-changing capability. He also reported a large blind spot on the driver’s side. Standard technology and driver assistance
GM lists Google built-in compatibility, a 19-speaker AKG audio system with Dolby Atmos, and Super Cruise as standard equipment. GM’s announcement describes lane-changing capability and a three-year connected-service period for Super Cruise. An active plan or trial is required to use the system, and the driver must remain attentive; GM cautions that driver-assistance features do not replace safe driving. What Optiq owners should know about charging
Charging time depends on battery condition, charge level and outside temperature, and charging slows as the battery fills, according to the owner’s manual. GM recommends charging to 80% or less for routine use unless a trip requires more, and avoiding a drop below 20% when possible. Cadillac owner’s manual and guides
The manual also says to use only GM-approved adapters. It warns that unapproved adapters can overheat or cause damage or injury, and that resulting battery damage may not be covered by warranty. Check GM’s approved equipment guidance rather than choosing an adapter based only on connector fit.
Who the Optiq may suit
- Drivers who want an equipped luxury EV: GM’s announced standard feature set includes all-wheel drive, Super Cruise, Google built-in and the AKG audio system.
- Drivers with predictable daily mileage and charging: The 302-mile EPA estimate is a useful planning figure, but actual range changes with conditions. The manual’s charging guidance is relevant for routine home charging.
- Drivers who prioritize blind-spot visibility or frequent local-road assistance: Velasco’s test flagged a driver-side blind spot and limits to where Super Cruise worked in his experience. A test drive on your usual roads is the best way to assess those concerns.
What remains unclear for buyers
The information available here does not establish current dealer transaction prices, incentives, used values, complete U.S. trim-by-trim specifications or current charging-network terms. GM’s $54,000 figure is a launch estimate, not a current market comparison. The evidence supports an overview of the Optiq’s announced specifications and one published road test, but not a definitive cost comparison or a claim that it leads its class.
