BMW’s launch figures describe a 717-hp plug-in-hybrid wagon, but its electric range, acceleration and cargo capacity figures were manufacturer estimates—not independent test results.
What BMW confirmed about the 2025 M5 lineup
BMW announced the seventh-generation M5 sedan in April 2024 and said a Touring variant would join it. The company called the Touring’s U.S. introduction a first for the market; production of the 2025 Touring was scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. BMW’s April 4, 2024 announcement quoted Dirk Häcker, head of BMW M development: “We are now also installing a hybrid drive system with typical M performance in other high-performance cars.”
BMW later said the Touring would be built at Plant Dingolfing alongside the sedan, with its global market launch beginning in the fourth quarter of 2024. The U.S. launch announcement gave the Touring a base MSRP of $121,500, plus $1,175 destination and handling. Those are launch-era 2024 announcement figures, not a current price or a 2025 used-car valuation. BMW’s August 15, 2024 launch release identifies it as the first M5 Touring offered in the United States.
What powers the M5 Touring, and how much power does it make?
BMW’s U.S. launch specification pairs a 4.4-liter V8 with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The plug-in-hybrid system drives all four wheels through M xDrive. BMW quotes combined output of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

The figures above come from BMW’s 2024 U.S. launch release. BMW USA’s technical-data page, which is dynamically maintained and is not clearly identified as a 2025 specification sheet, currently lists the Touring as a plug-in hybrid with 4,395 cc displacement, 717 bhp at 5,600–6,500 rpm, 738 lb-ft at 1,800–5,400 rpm, an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. “Bhp” and “hp” are the terms used on the respective BMW pages. BMW’s acceleration, speed and electric-range claims
BMW estimated 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds and 0–124 mph in 11.1 seconds for the Touring. It also gave a 3.1-second 50–75 mph time in fifth gear. Top speed was listed as 155 mph, rising to 190 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent instrumented results.

The launch release gives the battery’s electric range as up to 25 miles, explicitly a preliminary estimate. BMW says electric-only driving is possible at speeds up to 87 mph. Neither figure establishes how far the car will travel on electricity in real-world conditions; no independent measured range or fuel-economy statistic is established here.
How the Touring differs from the M5 sedan
The clearest distinction is the body style: the Touring is a wagon, while the sedan has a conventional trunk. BMW describes the two as sharing the 4.4-liter V8-and-electric-motor powertrain, M xDrive and advanced chassis technology, with the Touring adding cargo utility. The launch release’s 2025 Touring cargo estimate was 17.7–57.6 cu ft, and its estimated curb weight was 5,530 lb.

BMW USA’s currently maintained Touring FAQ gives different cargo figures—27.2 cu ft behind the rear seats and 67 cu ft with them folded—and lists 16.4 cu ft for the sedan. The FAQ does not identify those values as specific to model year 2025, so they should not be treated as a confirmed 2025 comparison. The same page currently shows a Touring starting MSRP of $125,300; that current page figure is not the 2025 launch price. BMW USA FAQ

BMW USA’s technical-data page currently lists a 5,523-lb curb weight, a 3.5-second 0–60 mph time, 155-mph electronically limited top speed and 11.5 hours for Level 2 AC charging from 0 to 100 percent. Because the page is dynamically maintained and does not clearly label these values as 2025-model specifications, they should not be blended with BMW’s dated 2025 launch data. In particular, the 5,523-lb current-page value is distinct from the 5,530-lb preliminary curb-weight estimate in the launch release.

For a model-year-specific account, the dated 2024 launch release is the source for the 2025 Touring’s stated performance, estimated range, cargo capacity and launch pricing. BMW’s live pages can provide current product information, but without a dated model-year confirmation their figures do not settle what applied specifically to the 2025 model.
What is not established by BMW’s specifications
- Independent acceleration testing or real-world electric range for the 2025 M5 Touring.
- A 2025-specific cargo-space comparison between the sedan and Touring using BMW’s currently displayed FAQ figures.
- Current dealer inventory, transaction prices or used-car asking prices.
BMW’s published figures establish the car’s stated specifications and launch plans; they do not substitute for independent road-test measurements or current market pricing.
